1. Mac's was on main street next to the canal. On warm nights you could sit on the canal wall and drink, only bar in town that you could drink outside at. Obviously, lead to a few enteraining morons doing a cannonball into the drink. I think a new bar has or will being opening up there.

It had damn good wings and burgers too.

Well, if it was on the north side of the canal, it may have been near where the Barge Inn was...which I know was closed down many years ago. Barge was a great place also...two floors of mayhem.

Hell, I knew guys who did a cannonball in the canal in the middle of winter...

  2. Canal Side - Open but sucks ass. Only good for the nights you want to pick up a slut.

    Northbound- Closed

Barbers- Open. Cool bar when it's not crowded.

    Lincoln- Never heard of

    Rox- Never heard of

    BVI- Never heard of

Caseys- Never heard of. I'll assume all these closed before I got there.

My favorite bar was Jimmy Macs when I was there. That has since closed though as the owner was a gambler that didn't know when to fold'em. I heard a good BBQ joint/bar opened but haven't been back to try it out.

Thanks for the update! Where was Jimmy Macs? May have been in one of those joints that you listed as closed...Barbers was a good place, on Monday nights they had $1.50 pitchers (remember, I'm talking 1982-84)...you could find that type of change in your couch...and there was always a sign behind the grill: "Fried Smelt, $1.00." As buzzed as I was many times, I never went for the smelt... 0:)

  3. And what a windstorm that was. I remember being in the 9th floor of Perry and I thought the building was gonna topple. Lucky it didn't happen during a game or people in the press box would have been killed.

Good to see some Brockporters on TSW...graduated there 20 years ago. What's the bar scene like? Canal Side, Northbound, Barbers (vis-o-drafts), Lincoln, Rox, BVI, Caseys (great wings) still up and running?

  4. that was a great play by smith, who in all likelihood is headed to the hall of fame.

Um, no...Jimmy Smith is NOT going to Canton. The only way he gets in the HOF is by buying a ticket.

If Art Monk can't get in, a guy who, when he retired, held the NFL receptions record, how in Sam Hill can you state Jimmy Smith deserves to get in? :D

  5. It IS different in Philadelphia.

Comcast SportsNet (Philadelphia) does not broadcast on Satellite and refuses to do so.

Comcast bought out HTS in Baltimore/Washington, but HTS is still under contract to satellite. After that contract expires (2007?) Comcast Sportsnet Washington/Baltimore will no longer be available on Satellite.

    Bad news, man.

    410822

This is absolutly correct. Comcast is bad news.

Wanna hear another Comcast gem? You've all heard about the broo-ha-ha about Comcast and the Asbestos King. Well, just recently, the court threw out Comcast's lawsuit vs the Asbestos King, with Comcast's argument being they were shut out of the O's telecast starting in 2007 because the AK formed his own, third-party network. All the time, Comcast has refused to broadcast's AK's network that the Nats are now on, MASN. The O's will join MASN after their contract with Comcast ends at the end of 2006.

Here's the kicker: Comcast is offering two Nats tickets to anyone in the DC area who signs up for cable! That's right, from the robber baron who refuses to show the Nats, they want to take you out to the ballgame, but forget about seeing the Nats on MASN.

Comcast marketing folks have really been taking a hit on this in the DC area. At first, people were rallying around them, only in the fact that they were taking on the Asbestos King...but this terrific blunder has really set them back a spell! :D

  6. This is a big problem for the Bills...in June, when group sales opened, we were told that only single tickets remained for Hou, Atl, Mia.

On the day single game tickets became available, even with the Bills Backer early bird access, I was informed that there were no tickets remaining for the NYJ game. I even called OBD, talked to a live (?) person and was told that the only way to see the NYJ game was to buy a season ticket.

A couple of weeks ago, tix for the NYJ magically appeared available on Ticketbastard. I got the best available and they were in the scoreboard endzone.

Today, "best available" is in the upper deck corner...

Bob Lamb used to rip on the Forans who run (ran?) the Bills' ticket office...I don't know if these people are still in charge, but if so, I'd like to hear their explanation of the ticket policy.

  7. I'm wondering about Fierio.  What hte hell happened to THAT guy.  He just disappeared!

    406360

Remember hearing in one episode, T had him "dispatched" back to Italy to "keep watch on the family" after T heard Carmela had the hots for him...

    Or something like that...

  8. I remember this play really well, the ultimate drive killer:

3-1-PIT11 (3:03) D.Bledsoe pass to D.Shelton to PIT 4 for 7 yards (R.Stuvaints; T.Carter). Caught at PIT 10, left side. PENALTY on BUF-Jo.Reed, Offensive Pass Interference, 10 yards, enforced at PIT 11 - No Play. ;)

  9. Cool. Wish I had known, would have wandered down there.

    402056

I stumbled accross it Saturday night when we were down there for a picnic...signs warning of "No Parking August 8th, Flags of our Fathers" were posted all around (like there's ever any parking around here  ). Went down there at lunch time and stuck around about a half-hour till the rains came.

  10. Hollywood types are in town to film "Flags of Our Fathers" a movie based on the Iwo Jima flag-raisers (and a book by the same name...It's a very good read, highly recommend [christ, I sound like Larry King  ]).

Anywho, Clint's directing the film...got to within 50 feet, he's still in great shape. The scene shot today recreates the dedication of the Iwo Jima memorial in 1954. Lots of extras walking around in 1950s garb and alot of classic cars...neat stuff.

The movie will be in theatres next year.

  11. But yeah, if the announcer was talking solely about 12-4 vs. 9-7, he had a valid point....

    401178

    Exactly.

And until the Bills end their playoff drought, they're not going to be mentioned in the same breath of the Pats, Steelers, Chargers, or any other division winner. Period. End of story. Is it right? Maybe not. But that's life in the Hot Pockets media world we live in right now.

Yeah, I heard the guy try and backtrack from his "better team" remark...but christ, let's just be realistic here. 12-4 vs. 9-7...Hmmm, maybe the guy jumped the gun on "better team" but let's not get our panties in a knot over a remark like this.
