Why do WE need to manage expectations? People say this constantly but never explain why?

Perhaps SOME are too weak to handle disappointment. Not ALL are.

Joe in Winslow, good post but I miss your old picture!

I have been away from all forms of communication since the beginning of the season and just able to read posts for the first time today. So, judging by what I see on this board, I am assuming the Bills are 0-4 and Josh Allen is a bust. Is that correct?

    Same old TBD!

Why? Because I live in the real world. And because I’d rather enjoy the ride than set myself up for disappointment when my unrealistic hopes are dashed. Do you fall into a deep depression when that scratch off lottery ticket doesn’t have a line of treasure chests?

It's only a football game, don't get emotionally scarred for life over this stuff!

I'm happy where we are right now.  The defense is dominant.  Allen has had ups and downs as I expected he would as a young second year QB.  I like his moxie in brining the team back in fourth quarter drives, I don't like seeing him makes the same type of mistakes each game - he has to show he's learning from past errors soon.  I think the O line play has been spotty, but anticipate improvement as the season progresses.  Special teams also are spotty.

I anticipate a playoff berth based on what I've seen so far.

    Oldmanfan rocks!

I think that what's important to note is that this isn't really a "moral" victory in the sense that we saw some nice things about our team, we played hard, and "we're almost there!"  It's a true moral victory in that this team is demonstrating that they WILL win, if they learn to clean up mistakes.

This isn't a team that was 3-0 because they were playing above themselves and got brought down to earth by a good team.  This is a team that won 3 games because they're good, and lost a game to a good team because they played poorly.  Gone are the days of flukey wins and losses.  We're not going to see those crazy, inexplicable performances that we're so accustomed to anymore.   No more wins because Fitz played out of his mind, or losses because we were figured out.  This is not territory that us, as Bills fans, are used to.  We haven't seen a good team like this since Flutie replaced Johnson.

I've found myself no longer hoping to get to the next step, but waiting for us to get rolling.  Just like in the Jets game, yesterday, it was only a matter of time before the offense started moving, and when they did, even Belichick was having trouble with them.  This team is going to clean up their mistakes, and they're going to be hard to stop.

    Great post and very true!

Wow.  If you think that was an easy win for them i dont even know what to say. That ranks among the stupidest things i've ever seen on this board

How do you respond to this nonsense by those who think it was an "easy road win for the Pats." Tell me BB was not sweating at the Bills drove late in the fourth; don't know what to say!

This particular team is 2-0 on the road. This defense can make Mariota's day miserable. I think Tennessee is very very winnable.

Why get in the way of a silly post with facts!

I have been a fan of the Bills for a long time. I hate the Patriots as much as the next guy.  As bitter and pessimistic as I have been, I finally see progress. This Bills team clearly could have beat the Pats. Yes, the scoreboard does not lie, but it does not tell me the entire story. I don't think I am delusional, it is the only way that I can afford to look at it. We are closer to defeating the Pats once and for all...than I have ever seen. I see hope.

Stop getting the way of the doom and gloom crowd; just scream fire everybody!

Can someone please tell me what Zay did, or didn’t do, yesterday to call for the hate?  I see people saying cut him immediately.

I can’t remember a play with him where I thought he was the reason we sucked.  The guy isn’t even out there that much.

Overall, he hasn’t lived up to his draft status and physical traits, but I don’t see how yesterday was the deal breaker.

    What am I missing?

Come on Virgil, you have been here for years and know how things go here TBD; we lost a game and its "fire everybody!"  Zay Jones this week who knows next week!

This actually reminds me of a game back in 88 when the Bills were 4-0, came into soldier field & the Bears defense made life miserable for Kelly & the boys that day.  it is one game, the key is how they respond in Nashville next Sunday, which will be another tough defensive game.  Good things ahead my friends.

Gordio, I remember that game and they did rebound and go on to win the AFC East; but after the loss the naysayers came out just like now!

Great points, but the Bills defense is better than the Patriots defense. I don't care what stats say.

No argument from me! Just can't ignore the Pats Defense in SB 2018 and the fact they are dominating in 2019!

Facts?!?! Guesses that you got lucky with aren't facts. The majority of your fan base saw this game as a blowout for the Pats (don't even try telling me otherwise), and I wouldn't be surprised if you thought the same thing. But even if you did, it's a FACT, that you won't admit it.  Those Bills fans that are labeling Allen a bust already were probably the same fans that would label  him a franchise QB had we won today, please don't be stupid enough to lump me in with them. Nothing about that is fact, and you need to learn the difference between fact and fiction. Many successful QBs had rough starts to their careers that went on to win super bowls. As I've said, I don't know how Allen is gonna turn out but to just toss him away and start all over is just contiuous mediocrity at best. The problems on offense aren't just with Allen, and even some Bills fans are blind to that, apparently you are too

Great post and true! If they win next week many of these will slither back into the shadows the come back the next loss and throw tantrums again; TBD at its best!

Both defenses were great. NE forced turnovers and made huge stops. Buffalo kept Brady off balance all day and got a turnover in the end zone. Your coach challenged some plays that he had zero chance of winning and the special teams gaffe...

Time to face the fact that Josh Allen is trending towards being a bust. Look at why the Bills aren't 4-0 and why they had to comeback for their 3 wins...

WTF, if we don't win every fricking game you blow snot bubbles - grow up!

Arrogance has nothing to do with this. Arrogance is not the same as knowledgeable. You don't actually consider the "experts" experts do you? All those ex-players are biased. I haven't said ANYTHING that your own fans have said. After each game this year, what has been the fans' biggest complaint? Allen, Allen, Allen, and Allen... Maybe he turns out to be the next Peyton Manning.

Ya whatever, go to your room!

  11. The Bills lost today to the greatest team, QB, and coach in sports history; not to mention what is possibly the greatest defense since the 1985 Bears. We took into the last minutes of the fourth quarter and as the season rolls on, I hope many of you understand the significance of that feat. This is a team on the rise, stop blowing snot bubbles and watch the rebound next week! We are back!!!!

Talk about an emotional day.  You could see it on the field, on TSW, on social media.  This game felt like a mini-series with plot twists, theme changes, and was just an overall rollercoaster.

To be clear, there is absolutely no way I can cover everything that happened in this game and I’m just going to cover the big things that stood out to me.

1 - Allen - Allen played against a great defense today who has shut down opposing teams so far.  With that, Allen had a really bad game.  This is a game of defense, field position, and points were at a premium.  I don’t care what the completion percentage was or total yardage in this game.  I care about not hurting the team and taking care of the football.   Allen turned the ball over 4 times and was wildly inaccurate to me on deep throws, which he also took too often.   He under threw Zay that could’ve been a touchdown.  He also was off on the shorter passes outside of the scoring drive.

Worst of all, I don’t know what it’s going to take to get him to stop throwing off his back foot into traffic.  Of all teams, not against the Pats man.  Granted, one of them should have been overturned, but he still overall hurt the team more than he helped.

Again, I don’t care if he had more 3 and outs and they punted.  It’s the short field position that gave them a TD and field goal.  You just can’t make these mistakes and it seems to be getting worse.  Also, add in the sack that knocked us back 5 yards with the ensuing missed FG, and it’s another play that hurts us.

2 - Gore - Great game by him today, eclipsing the 100 and breaking 15k yards for his career.  He definitely showed up today, showing great field vision and power.  I would have liked to have seen him utilized more.

3 - Lee Smith - I know you can’t write a guy off based off one game, but 4 penalties in a defensive battle just isn’t okay. Between that and some dropped passes this season, I really hope to see Knox take more of his snaps.  Speaking of Knox, he came up big twice and I look forward to seeing more from him.

4 - “I know if I am going to have any life anymore it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch because that is what living is. The six inches in front of your face.”

5 - Overall defense - Another game where the stat box doesn’t tell the whole story.  If I told you we didn’t get a sack on Brady, you might think we got picked apart.  Quite the opposite.  Outside of the deep pass down the sideline to White, where we inexplicably only rushed 3, our defense was amazing.  I mean, absolutely amazing.  These guys never let up and Brady looked pedestrian.  The INT by Hyde was a beautiful play and they made this a game for us. It’s frustrating that we couldn’t reward them with a win, but you have to be inspired by how they played.

6 - The Hit - I’m sorry, but personal fouls need to trump other penalties.  There’s just no way that hit shouldn’t be counteracted by a holding call.   On the stat sheet, the play never happened and it took out Allen.  In real speed, it’s hard to know true targeting. However, Allen was already wrapped up and he still took the shot.  Just add it to the list of reasons to hate those guys

7 - Daboll - This is hard for me because I’m not an Xs and Os guy.  It seems like the Pats ran the same defense they ran all season and what they did against us last year.  With that, it seems like we were completely unprepared for them today.  It’s not just getting shut down, it’s the way we were shut down.  We looked confused.  Also, where was McKenzie in this game and all the stretch/sweeps we’ve been running?  Then, we score via hurry up and then abandon it on the next drive.   The trick play was nice, and I don’t blame Yeldon there as it wasn’t an easy catch.  Overall, Daboll needs to be better in this game

8 - Special Teams - Haven’t talked about these guys in a while.  That blocked punt for an INT proved to be the ball game.  That TD was the difference maker in points and probably changes future decisions.  The gunner came in free, which can’t happen.  Hausch’s miss also changed future decisions, even though it should’ve been 5 yards closer.

Again, in a defensive battle like this, you need consistency, not a loss of 10 points.

9 -  What If - There are so many things to talk about here.  Should they have taken the points on the short field goals vs going for it?  I say yes, besides the Allen TD. Allen on the field makes one yard seem like a given.  With Barkley, it’s different.  You never know what’s going to happen next based upon a decision, but in a defensive battle, I think you alway take the points.  We left 6 on the board that was the final difference maker, but then Allen did score.  Who knows.

10 - McD - We lost 16-10 to a great team at home and could have won it on our last drive.  That’s the end result and that’s what you grade off of.  The challenges by McD hurt as we didn’t have any timeouts at the end.  Challenging offensive PI was tough for me and I think he needs to take his chances on more than 50/50 calls.  I get perspective, but neither were clear calls.

While we didn’t win, you have to love how crap we make Brady look in these games.  I know there’s no morale victories and this sucks.  But these aren’t the same losses as the past decade.  If we have a turnover free offense, we win this game to me.

    Bonus:

-What happened to Ty on the last offensive play?   He left the edge unguarded

-Let’s see how the league handles the hit on Allen

-How was that not intentional grounding by Brady?

Big day guys.  We beat the spread.  We gave up 3 points in the last 3 quarters. We didn’t blow up like in the past after a terrible first quarter.  Allen may be out next week and his continued poor choices have to make you hesitate.  But still 3-1 in a wide open season.

    Go Bills!

Thank you Virgil, this board really needed this post; right on regarding all! Still the MVP of TBD!

The Bills don't need anything.  They have a Super Bowl caliber roster.  They proved today they are on par with the team favored to win the Super Bowl.  They need to execute and not make stupid mistakes.  This team cleans things up and keeps improving, they are going to have a chance to win the whole thing.  Can't make mistakes.

Thank you, can the "millennials" just accept we got beat by a good football team today which does not mean you fire everybody and start over!!! We lost by six points and still had a shot with 3:00 to play in the 4th quarter to the greatest franchise, HC, and QB in the history of the NFL!!!

The challenges didn't work out but didn't decide the outcome of the game by any means. I still don't understand abandoning Gore who was torching the Pats for 6.4yds a carry?  Why stop, it's opens up play calling so much more for the O.

OK, if you want to question play calling I'm with you!

Some horrible in game decisions today

Challenging the forward progress call and this isn't the first time he has done this.....never challenge a spot unless it is blatant and this was not

To not kick the fg down 6 with plenty of time in the game.....Defense had been playing lights out kick the fg be down three and need a fg to tie vs needing the TD

calling the timeout on the punt play was probably the worst in game decision of the day.

The challenge on the offensive pass interference i can give a bit but not after the other bad decisions and knowing if you lose you are now down to one time out left

With all the eff ups by the bad qb play the offensive line and the coaches issues we still only lost by 6 and the Bills offense outscored the pats....so i do feel some [positives form a game just was a compounding affect today.

Go away, man you guys kill me with your arm chair coaching!!! I am very proud of this team and the "Mcbeane Process!!!" ESPN Operation football called the Bills one of the two best Defenses in the NFL - the other the Patriots and one of the best coached teams! Go sit in your room!
