Twitter: Is Stefon Diggs the reason for Josh Allen's success?

Random person replies: Diggs is great, but he is not the only reason for Allen's success.

Diggs replies: You sure about that?

If that is the type of stuff he will say in public, I cant imagine how he acts behind closed doors. You dont throw your QB under the bus like that.

Maybe he was questioning the part about Diggs being great?

What if it turns out that McGovern actually makes a great Center? What if he was sitting there waiting for Morse to retire? Do we know that he isn’t?

If you read the Athletic article by Tim Graham on McGovern (recognizing that it's behind a paywall), I think you'd be pretty convinced that it's the right move.

  3. Happy for Tre, but truly shocked at that contract. I’m no orthopedic surgeon or sports medicine guy, but I’d be shocked and amazed if Tre comes back from this injury next year, much less this year. Maybe Rams know something about his rehab that the rest of us don’t, but I can’t see it. Good luck to you, Tre.

chicago has no business trading him. draft your qb. do the cousins/rgiii routine. having 2 birds in the hand isn't a bad thing unless you can win immediately and use the one bird to just get better.

bears aren't winning the north for at least 2 years. why not keep both and see what happens.

One could argue that his trade value decreases by the day.

You might want to check again, we didn’t lose to Zach Wilson this past season bc of McDs D, it was Josh’s boneheaded second half that gave the game away.  But that aside, as long as the Bills keep winning the division, these teams are going to be second guessing their QB situations and shuffling through one guy after another.  Much like we had to do for almost 20 years.

    Whatever makes you feel better.

So, the successor to Tom Brady is headed to Jacksonville.  Bill Belichick is headed to ESPN (presumably).

Whatever happens, there has been a sea change in the NFL and especially in the AFC East.

Josh Allen and the Bills are the mountain everyone has to climb.

The Jets have a 40-year-old QB coming off an Achilles injury.

The Dolphins have an oft-injured QB and salary cap issues.

The Patriots are back to page-one with a new head coach and a total unknown at QB.

And the Bills are looking for a new #2 receiver.

Which team looks like it's closest to reaching the Super Bowl?

How many more full injury-free seasons does Tua have to get through before we can drop the "oft-injured" label?

Josh has pretty much become the Tom Brady of the division, in that all the other teams are in QB purgatory and going through the revolving door of QBs while trying to catch up with us.  Meanwhile, McD’s D can just feast on the young prey.

You mean the D that managed to lose to both Mac Jones and Zach Wilson in the same season?

I was thinking the same thing.  Bates can play any of the 5 positions along the line and has starting experience at guard.  The Bills were fortunate to go the entire season without injuries on the OL, but that's unlikely to be the situation again this upcoming season.  It's possible that Bates asked out so that he could get an opportunity to start and Beane did him a solid, and along the way, saved some salary and cap space and netted a 5th rounder in return.

I typically give Beane the benefit of the doubt.  I don't think they would have made this move without 1) a good reason to make it; and 2) a plan for replacing the function that Bates provided to the team.

    Bingo.

While I do agree with you about moving up once we get into the 20's, I wouldn't say "any" of them though.  I think the players Beane would go up are a lot less some of the players being mentioned.  For example Legette and Worthy.  I just don't see either being the kind of WR that Beane would move up for in this draft.

I think there are 5 WR's that Beane would make a move up to get in this draft, and the kind of move up is probably within the 20's still so it is not too costly.  Harrison, Nabers, Odunze, Thomas, and Mitchell.  I highly doubt any of the big 3 get close enough to where Beane would pull the trigger and move up.  Unless something kind of crazy happens and Worthy somehow leap frogs one of the big 3 after his crazy 40 time and it surprisingly pushes one of them down to striking distance for Beane who would probably pay a little more to go up and get one of them.

So I think that leaves really Thomas and Mitchell as the kind of WR I think Beane would pull the trigger to go get in a small trade up.  I don't think he would do it for Worthy, just do not think he is a good fit here or what Beane is looking for as his frame is just too small despite being 6'1".  Maybe he would for McConkey, depends who you ask though as where people grade him seems to vary some from person to person.  I am one that is very high on McConkey, before the combine I had him as the 5th WR on my board.  Now I have him and Mitchell kind of tied for 5th.  I think he has the highest floor while still possessing one of the highest ceilings, and his game and style would help Josh a lot IMHO.

There is a chance that all 5 of the big 3 with Thomas and Mitchell are gone before we pick, which then makes me think Beane stays put at 28 and either takes next WR or another position if someone they love gets pushed down thanks to the QB and WR runs, or maybe even makes a small trade back to pickup an extra 3rd or something in this draft.

BUT:  I do expect Beane to be aggressive on getting a guy he covets, so my way too early prediction is we make a small trade up to get either Thomas or Mitchell...or in an extremely surprising case of Worthy going before all the big 3 are gone, going up and getting one of the big 3 if they get near that 20th pick range.

Yeah, I meant basically either Thomas or Mitchell as the 2nd tier guys. I agree that Legette and Worthy are tougher to envision being in that group, and that Beane would probably only take them if they drop down to him at 28—unless there's someone else he covets who dropped down to him.

  10. One of the issues to bear in mind is that most teams know we're looking hard at WR in the 1st round, so if any of those 2nd-tier guys slip into the 20s, other interested teams will be looking to leapfrog us. Thinking any of them would drop to us at 28 is probably a very risky move.

That's why I agree with @Alphadawg7 that if any of them make it to the 20s, we'll probably make a small move up to get one of them.

I'm not ready for this.  I get that almost our entire defensive line are free agents, but I still have PTSD from all the drafting of defensive lineman.

Perhaps, but I also have PTSD from watching opposing teams run all over us and our DL going missing at key moments.

If I’m thinking about it right, if you put too much of your players’ salaries into Void years, you effectively could put your team into cap hell in the future.  Having to account for the cap hit on players that may not even be on your team anymore.

Not to be picky, but to clarify: salary money, as far as I understand it, is only charged to the cap during the year that the salary is earned (ie, when the player plays). Salary is basically for playing time; bonuses are extra and don’t have to be counted in the year the player plays—they are spread out over the life of the contract.

So you don’t put salary money into void years, because the player is not playing during the void years. Void years are only for bonus money, and for the purpose of spreading out the bonus money over more years, lessening each year’s cap hit but extending the cap hit over more years.

This is one reason you often hear salary money being converted into bonus money—it lowers the salary cap hit for that year, so that more of the player’s earnings is bonus money, which can then be spread out over more years. Adding void years allows you to then spread it out over even more years.

  13. Unpopular?

Bills really screwed the pooch by trading the Mahomes pick. Not because I don't like Josh...I absolutely *love* Josh and I don't want anyone else at QB for us. But passing on Mahomes and gifting him to the Chiefs not only means they passed on the best QB of this generation, but also gifted him to an AFC rival that will keep us out of the Super Bowl for the entirety of his career.

Nevertheless, I still love having Josh as our QB, despite the implications.
