The life of a Bills fan in a nutshell.

My version of this is that I never exhale until the clock hits double zeroes. 11 point lead and 90 seconds left? Don't care. I'm a Bills fan. Seen this movie too many times before. When the clock hits zeroes and the coaches and players start pouring onto the field, THEN I can accept that it's a win. Never, ever before then.

Mark Schlereth used to talk about how often professional athletes are successful because they are delusional but there are two kinds of delusions.  He said the lineman who was next to him who was a future hall of famer and at the time was like a 10 year vet, perennial all pro.  He said they would be in the huddle and this guy would be in a panic because he was absolutely convinced that the 7th round rookie he was going up against was going to smoke him.  He was convinced that this borderline roster guy was better than him.  On the other hand, some pros who are barely on the roster are convinced they are the best at their position, not only on the team but in the league.  Opposite delusions both drive these athletes to success.  I think you find these two mindsets in life and amongst fans.  Some fans are always convinced their team has no chance against the Panthers and the others are convinced that the Ravens have ZERO chance against their team.

I get it, of course, but...losing to the Jets, Pats***, Broncos, etc. will do that to you.

I think Taron being limited is a good sign... I think that means he is fairly far along in the concussion protocol.

Man, this is going to be a nail-biting week. Having Douglas, Dodson, and Johnson back would be fantastic. If they're the only three we get back, that still really helps.

Would really like to see Benford and Rapp back as well, if possible—anything to keep Lewis and Elam on the sidelines as much as possible. I doubt we'll see Bernard, but man that would be great if he could go.

did we go after Rudolph, like send enough guys?  The Steelers OL is a bit underrated.  Looked like we rushed 4 most of the game, but I'm not sure (had to "watch" the second half on the radio while driving kids to lax practice).

I worry about giving Mahomes too much time.  But a coverage sack could work.  Perhaps some delayed blitzes where we drop Williams, then send him?

The Bills blitzed only eight times in 44 dropbacks (per the Buffalo News).

  5. Special teams has been woeful all year, except for the Harty return. That one play, while critical to the season, does not entirely make up for a season's worth of bad play. I'd also mention the punt block that very nearly happened at the beginning of the Dallas game. Still hard to believe the player didn't get a piece of it, but if he had somehow not inexplicably missed the ball, that very well may have completely changed that game.

I'm less worried about Bass than others, but Smiley really needs to get his ***** together or else he should be on the street after this year.

Chiefs fans are all riled up that the league will bend over backwards to accommodate their beloved Josh Allen and the Bills (paraphrasing)

It's funny to see other fans perspective. Everyone thinks their team gets picked on.

Did they already forget how the NFL moved one of their playoff games to later in the day back in 2017 because of an ice storm in KC?

And are they upset about how they'll get two extra days of prep for next week if the Bills win?

It depends on whether Young busts or turns things around.  If he busts, combined with Stroud being the franchise in Houston, the trade will have set Carolina back much further than  Watson set Cleveland back.

Sorry, gonna have to disagree with you on that. Watson has ruined their future both in terms of the draft and their cap.

Carolina says hold my beer on the trade for the #1 pick last year especially taking Young over Stroud with the pick.

    No. 1: Chicago → Carolina (PD). Chicago traded a first-round selection (1st) to Carolina in exchange for WR D. J. Moore, first- and second-round selections (9th and 61st), 2024 first-round (1st overall) and 2025 second-round selections.[Trade 1]

I think when you factor in the ridiculous and destructive contract for Watson, the award has to go to that trade.

Hey man, we can run the ball pretty well when we stick to it. Got to slow the game down and chew the clock when up. The weather isn’t the best for just slinging it. I know Gabe isn’t revered here but he has height and is a better option for “jump balls”. Can’t have Josh trying his magic all game

Gabe is the last person on this roster I would think of throwing a jump ball to.

  10. One thing I think we're not talking about a lot is special teams, and the impact the weather and some of these injuries might have.

Despite Harty's breakout last week and Martin's special teams honors, our ST have been abysmal this year. This seems like the kind of game where either team could have a breakdown that allows a big return. I'd be more worried about us having that breakdown given how bad we've been this year.

In a close scoring game, a big return or two could be all the difference.

  11. Saw it posted somewhere that McD is now the 4th longest active tenured coach in the league, looks like that is confirmed above.

Also saw that McDermott is the only currently active coach hired before 2019 who HASN'T been to the Super Bowl, also confirmed above.

Both of those are pretty eye opening. I, for one, like him as a coach and am glad he's here. But the lack of a Super Bowl appearance at this point is tough.

  12. Congratulations, man!

I know you've talked about your personal life on here every now and then, and it's really cool to see things working out so awesomely for you.

Hopefully he'll get to grow up knowing the Bills only as a perennial playoff team and Super Bowl contender/winner.
