After the eagles game, many (including myself) were satisfied enough to declare Brady the OC next year if McD stays. I think after what we saw under Dorsey, any semblance of an nfl offense was a welcome sight so we may have jumped the gun in what Brady was capable of. Now?  Well…this offense is a mess. Allen and the receivers are way off…Diggs is a non factor since Brady took over…we are running Murray up the guy on third and 1 instead of letting our hulking qb dive over the top to move the chains, etc.

Could Joe Brady be coaching for his job today this week? I’m not saying he won’t be the guy next year either way, but the job might come open if we lose and miss the playoffs. We have way too much in a franchise qb to be wasting him with ineffective coaching. I’d rather open up the HC position in favor of an offensive mind, but we all know that’s not likely to happen.

    What say you?

Brady has always been coaching for his job. He's interim, its not like he's assured the spot for next year. He knows he has to produce every week.

Schopp brought up an interesting point yesterday on post-game. He said that this is exactly what McDermott wants. A run heavy offense that can control the clock and keep the d fresh. If this is the ultimate goal, i hate it. We had it really good with Dabol and I didn't appreciate that at the time like I should have.

I can say with confidence that this is NOT exactly what McDermott wants. I'm sure he would like a run-heavy offense like we saw against Dallas, but not what we've seen the last couple of weeks. If he wants a run-heavy offense, it's to take the pressure off of Allen and allow him to use play action better and to be more productive with the receivers when he does throw. We're not seeing that, at least not yet. I can't imagine this is what McDermott wants...he wants this, but with a better, more opportunistic passing game.

So this thread is a perfect example of over analyzing everything the Bills do/don’t do and just looking at scores and records of other teams. Flacco, nice story but look who they have played. He has more than half of the turnovers Josh had and has only played 5 games. Good defense, no doubt, but they did give up 17 in the first half to the Jets the other night (yes they only gave up 3 after the half)

Dolphins finally beat a team with a winning record. I don’t think that defense is anywhere near as good as they have shown lately (again, look who they have played, specifically the QBs they have played)

I get it, we are all Bills fans so naturally we are more invested in them. If you look objectively at the other teams, there’s not a team that should scare you-outside of the Bills having a letdown

Well, sorry to disappoint you with the thread, but I also disagree. It's not a matter of "over analyzing everything," it's doing what a lot of people are doing and trying to look relatively objectively at who are the hot teams going into the playoffs. I acknowledged right off that the Browns haven't beaten a murderer's row of competition, but they've still done so fairly convincingly. Hey, they didn't struggle with a down-and-out Jets team the way we struggled with the down-and-out Chargers (and their defense only allowed 10 points to the Jets in the first half).

You can't argue with the fact that Flacco is experiencing a resurgence (and yes, you can argue that his turnovers are a problem, but he's throwing for a lot of yards and plenty of TDs) and you can't argue with how elite their defense is. It was just a simple question: are the Browns a team that other teams are not looking forwad to facing in the playoffs? I say yes, you say no. No need to insult a thread over that.

After seeing Star Lotulelei in action, it quickly became clear he is tied forBrandon Beane’s biggest FA bust along with Trent Murphy - also signed in 2018.  Star’s calling card was that he was a space eater that could occasionally flash as a pass rusher but he didn’t do that in Buffalo.    But you know who did?  Daquan Jones!

Jones is the player that Beane thought he was signing in Star.

Kudos to Beane for recognizing it and then going out and getting the right player.

  4. The thinking for the last couple of weeks has been the Bills...but I wonder how many are now saying it's the Browns?

Browns have most all the ingredients you might want:

    • Super strong defense
    • Excellent offensive line
    • Savvy veteran QB experiencing a resurgence
    • One of the top WRs in Cooper
    • Very good running game

They haven't faced a murderer's row of opponents lately, but they're thrashing people and really starting to peak at the right time. Of all the teams in the AFC right now, even compared with the Dolphins and Ravens, I think they are going to do some serious damage in the playoffs.

Assuming they get their kicking game straightened out...

That might be the first time I'd literally have to turn my head or leave the room for a play that I couldn't bear to watch.

If he makes it, I might not even be able to watch a replay until the next day when I could eventually start to believe that a procedural flag wasn't going to come flying into the locker room during the post-game celebration.

I had to do this myself for the first time this year. It was the final 4th down play by the Chiefs at the end of the game. Couldn't bear to watch, I buried my head and listened to it, waiting for the words, "no flags!"

It was enough to make my head nearly explode.

They have a bad offense and a good defense. Problem is, they run a style -- taking the easy stuff in the middle of the field in the passing game -- that the Bills pass D struggles with. The Bills seem to do much better against defenses with elite receivers and QBs who work the boundaries than against teams that prioritize always taking the easy passes available in a zone D. The Chargers did it last week and did OK with virtually no talent, and the Pats shredded the Bills zone D in the first game this season.

But yeah, the Bills should win. I just worry it'll be an ugly game.

I think some of it will depend on whether Hunter Henry plays. He's the kind of target that would really frustrate our zone defense, I think, especially over the middle. I also would look for a lot of dump offs to the backs either in the flat or over the middle—need Bernard and Dodson to be on their game.

I agree he's trying to set up a bigger deep play later. The problem is we'll waste 2-3 blown-up wr screen plays to set up a play that never seems to come?  Besides Josh throws that lateral poorly.

Yeah, exactly. It seems like that's what he's trying to do, but I just can't see it working.

  8. 3 minutes ago, LABILLBACKER said:

Brady loves the lateral wr screen as much as Dorsey loved the shotgun draw. Neither works, NFL players are too fast.  I can live with the occassional dump off over the middle or in the flat, but scrub the Diggs screen.

I agree, I hate seeing that quick WR screen. Then again, I think Brady is using it for two reasons: one, as a substitute for a run play to try and get 4-8 yards (not necessarily to break one every time); and two, to keep the DBs from playing too far off the line in man coverage, setting up a deep ball attempt.

Can't really say it's working so far, by my unprofessional eyes, but I think there is some method to this madness, I just can't quite see it.

Just an example of some of the negative variance that we have to overcome.  It's one of those things that tends to normalize over a larger sample size but just like our luck on fumbled balls it's been going against us all season.  Even though it was Easton Stick and not Patrick Mahomes I didn't feel remotely comfortable at the end of this game because I think Dicker would have nailed it from 67 somehow.

But wouldn't it be awesome if this is where the worm turns?

Thank you for looking that up. I was thinking of doing it myself after this game, since it seemed to me as well that other teams just don’t seem to miss (unless we have 12 men on the field).

  10. I like these threads for the thought experiment, but for me it really comes down to this simple truth: The playoffs have already started.

We need to win out all the way through February or basically we're done. If we lose to the Chargers, Pats****, or Fins, we don't deserve to be in the playoffs, and even if we somehow lose one of those and sneak in, we aren't going far if we can't beat those three teams with everything on the line.

That game has such a weird reputation around it.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Steelers leave their starting O-line in for the entire game?  As you pointed out, them playing their 3rd string RB was actually a massive upgrade for them, and Fast Willie Parker capitalized on that game to have a role in the playoffs that year, then went on to be their starting RB for years afterward.  Likewise James Harrison - playing "the Steelers backups" was in some ways harder than playing their starters!  Obviously not Tommy Maddox so much, but still.

I also think that Bills team was somewhat overrated by their winning streak of blowouts against terrible teams that had given up on the season.  I'm not saying they sucked, but those blowouts made us look elite in DVOA and other analytics, and I never felt like we were elite that year.  Really just a marginal playoff team with good talent and subpar coaching.

I'm with you on thinking Fournette will be elevated.  You get 3 for the regular season and unlimited in the playoffs, right?  With Ty Johnson banged up, it would make a ton of sense to have Fournette active, even if it's just insurance in case Johnson aggravates the injury in game.

DaQuan getting activated and taking Phillips' roster spot makes a ton of sense and would be awesome.  For some reason, my gut says that DaQuan doesn't play for at least another week, but fingers crossed.

I don't think they activate DaQuon. I think they take it slow with him for now. He has a 21-day window, so there is no need to hurry it. I think they activate him next week and he gets a few live reps against the Pats****. I think they roll this week with Poona.

As for Ty, I wouldn't be surprised to see them rest the shoulder this week, get him back to full health if possible. No need to push it, they still have Murray. Get Fournette in there to get a few reps, maybe, like you say.

I'm going to guess Phillips's roster spot will be taken by Elam, but it needs to be someone who can play special teams. Curious they listed him as Questionable after being a full participant...

I have a lot of experience with making and more with eating wings throughout the US and internationally. Believe it or not they have been frying and eating wings longer in Asian countries than we have been doing it in the US.

To answer your question: I think a medium or average sized wing by Buffalo standards is more than big enough. Too small and they are tedious to eat and prepare. Too big and you seem to get less of the crispy surface and they take forever to cook. Also, a premium price for the large wings.

I’m not a big fan of heavy breading but I have had plenty of wings with a bread like coating that were delicious. I favor naked but wings but I believe that wings should be judged by the end product like any other food.

Outside of buffalo I almost always ask for extra crispy. Biggest issue for me is a flabby wing. A more common problem I noticed when visiting buffalo lately.

I have personally experimented with all types of sauces. I love a lot of Asian inspired sauces. Sweet, salty, hot with other interesting flavors.

I think the best evolution of the wing is to char them after frying then sauce again. I love a crispy, saucy wing.

FYI. I have lived in Phoenix for the last 25 years but I spend a few months in Buffalo every year to get good wings and pizza. I love to see new developments with the food.

My uncle used to order his wings extra crispy, but in my experience people outside of Buffalo don’t know what that means. I’ve never ordered them that way. What does it mean to you?

    Buffalo wings are amazing!

    But hear me out....

Thai or vietnamese Fish sauce wings are out of this world good. A completely different flavor profile obviously.  But if you have never tried them please do. You will be blown away by the sweet and tangy taste!

Best wings I’ve ever had were at a pizza place here in SLC that served them in an Asian style that I can only describe as some combination of teriyaki and plum sauce with ginger. Orgasmic.

Good points, Thanks.  I was puzzled about the latter then I realized that Corey Linsley has been missing since September with a heart issue!!!!!  Wishing him all the best.  So he's been missing all season.

Bosa has been on IR for 4 games with what was reported as a "foot sprain", so technically he's eligible to return but I've heard no inklings of it (practice window open etc)

I thought I heard he needed to be out one more game for IR…

OK, Simon, you want a better start to a game week thread - I'll give it a go.   Still waiting at the airport for my bushel basket of Corgis, though.

Game as we know is Saturday on Peacock.   Other threads say either Peacock subscription option will do.  #### it and Pee (see what I did there?) on the NFL for all the short week games they give the guys, then they yammer about player safety.

    Tues injury list

    https://www.buffalobills.com/team/injury-report/

Seems promising that AJ and Micah both practiced.  Concerned about Floyd's appearance on the list.  McDermott said Jones is unlikely to play and Von was excused for a family funeral.  Phillips had surgery on a dislocated wrist and hopes to be back "if the Bills make the playoffs".

When, BigJ.  Think these things into existence.

    Just Win, Boys.

On the Bolts side, Keenan Allen seems to be the most serious injury on report, DNP

However, Deane Leonard (also DNP with heel) is one of their starting Corners

    Reminder Mike Williams on IR

Any other insights?  Put 'em here.

On the Charger's injury front, don't forget that Bosa is out again this week, and their starting Center as well.

    No excuses.
