    What makes you believe that?

    Observing them together.

Here's a quote from a few years ago:

"What Mike did was he gave me a blueprint a little bit for what it looked like. He was such a role model for a lot of us, myself included, on campus as a younger player," McDermott said. "He was a fourth-year senior when I got there so he was a good example for me as well as many others. So to watch him go off and graduate and begin his coaching career and the way he did it and the way he climbed the ladder, I've always looked at him as kind of an older brother in the profession because of where we started."

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a Harvard grad and extremely popular... just because someone is an Ivy League grad doesn't mean they have to be labeled as non relatable.

The difference is nobody would ever call Fitz a nerd.  McDaniel is basically a grown-up Steve Urkel.

  3. Head coaches get fired and then come back a few years later as assistants with the team that fired them.  This year former Broncos HC Vance Joseph rejoined the Broncos as D coordinator.  Many years ago, Jim Ringo returned to the Bills as OC after previously serving as Bills head coach.

First, I don't think he gets this job.

But I do think there is some credence to a Fraizer-esque hire. The org needs some stability and they need to start stringing together some 10 plus win seasons. With Herbert they will want to make a trendy and booming hire. I get it. But Herbert is about to enter the 5th year of his career. but if Ben Johnson flops like some of their other hires they are toast. 3 x 10-7 seasons from a Fraizer-like hire, and then promote/get somebody else to get them over the top isn't the worst idea ever.

I am a huge proponent that Gailey/Nix/Whaley were big parts of getting this team back on track. The Levy/Russ Brandon GM era's were an embarrassment.

The big question around some of the conservative/defensive hires will revolve around who their plan is at OC.

Gailey/Nix/Whaley were horrible.  I don't get the love for 33% Gailey.  I'll never forget the time Chan punted from the opponent's 34 yard line.

Nix hit on a draft choice every now & made the great Jerry Hughes trade, but then was responsible for drafting EJ Manuel in the 1st round.  Whaley had bad drafts, not one player in any of his 3 drafts (2014-16, I don't include the McDermott draft of 2017) got a 2nd contract.  Whaley also doubled down with the bad trade to move up for Watkins.  Take a look at the Whaley drafts-disgraceful!

The only part of them getting this team back on track was failing miserably in enough time to get shown the door before the 2018 draft.  Those clowns would have probably drafted Josh Rosen.

Rooney Rule turns all the black assistant coaches into racial tokens.  Happened with Anthony Lynn every season too.

They should be the first one to oppose this.

Bad example.  Anthony Lynn got the Chargers job in 2017.  I remember in 2017 there was talk of the Bills hiring Lynn as HC & I was totally against anyone who came here with Rex Ryan getting the job.

Gonna be interesting to see what the Dols do with Tua.  He's got the 5th year tender at $23M for next year, but do they give him $50M/year or wait out the season and possibly see it rise even further?

Pay him the $23 million & play hardball on any extension before season 6. Do what Baltimore did with Lamar.

I fully expect the Raiders to keep their interim GM and Head Coach.  The interim GM is the guy Davis initially wanted to hire but second guessed himself.  That said, Gray isn't necessarily the Rooney rule candidate because Champ Kelly the interim GM isnt white.

They changed the rule.  Even if your interim GM or coach is a minority, they must interview a minority candidate from outside the organization.  I didn't know that until someone recently explained why the Raiders couldn't just sign Pierce to a new contract until they interview a minority candidate from outside the organization.

    Updated Rooney Rule:

Clubs must conduct an in-person interview with at least one external minority candidate for any GM or head coaching interview. Clubs must continue to consider multiple diverse candidates. Clubs must maintain complete records and provide them to the league upon the Commissioner's request.

Who cares man it's front office personnel, not a coach! Let him interview away.  And fingers crossed he gets it too, not only good for him and his family but that's is two extra 3rd round picks for the Bills!

I hope he gets it ASAP.

(Jim Rome listeners will understand) In Al Davis voice: Mark, this is your father, hire Terrance Gray!

Get BB McDaniels as an oc, replace him as gm, draft a qb, see what happens

If he drafts the right QB at 3, he'll be good again. If he drafts the wrong one at 3 like Trey Lance or Sam Darnold, he's toast.  Look at the carnage from Carolina drafting Young over Stroud.  GM & coach gone.

I imagine the OC position is Brady's to lose, depending how the Bills do in the play offs on that side of the ball. Wouldn't be surprised to see Rivera come in as DC, but that depends on whether McDermott wants to relinquish the role. I mean, isn't he supposed to just be a stop gap as a DC until Frasier makes a decision on whether to return? Not that I can see that happening now.

I don't believe it was Frazier's decision to leave, nor will he be able to decide to come back.

Bellichrck ….I don’t view him as GOAT.  he rode a QB. He also hasn’t had success off his coaching tree.

since he hasn’t succeeded post brady with QB. I expect them to draft a QB in the draft.

Most HOF coaches rode a QB to get there.  To quote the old Dick Jauron song on WGR: With no quarterbackin' get those bags a packin'

  10. How about that 2022 draft! Even if Elam doesn't work out, and I'm willing to give him one more chance when he's healthy, we had 5 class of 2022 contributing tonight and those final day picks!

    2-Cook

    3-Bernard

    5-Shakir

    6-Benford

    7-Spector

Hard knocks should be good this week!

11 seed to 2 seed I. 5 weeks.   That has to be some kind of record.

they left so much out there and won anyway

Two weeks ago I said I couldn't wait to see the Dolphins meltdown on the last 2 episodes.  I predicted more f's from McDaniel than ever heard on 1 hour of TV.

Both.  Bad JA placement, but Davis literally just fell, likely could have batted it down.

On both INTs in the endzone, Miami's D made stupid mistakes costing them yardage.  1st Apple runs out of the endzone giving Miami bad field position.  Then they lose yardage by catching the ball in the endzone instead of knocking it down & going back to the LOS on 4th down.  I wonder if either play has Fins fans complaining about the D backs being poorly coached.

Yes, but you can't count on a win. Therefore rooting for a Jags win is rooting against the Bills. The Bills will still be just as hungry for the 2 seed. I'm sorry the Titans won today. I hope you're not too hurt by it.

You still don't know how to read the posts you quote.  Explain how you went to talking about the draft in your reply when the draft was never mentioned & the post was about wanting the Bills to get the 2nd seed.   When the Bills win tonight your conclusion will make even less sense than the little sense it makes now.

  15. 2 minutes ago, Buffalo03 said:

Because I read it correctly. Yes, by winning we get the 2 seed but you realize that wanting the Jags to win is still rooting against us because them winning and us losing eliminates us. It's pretty simple how I came up with it

It's a totally illogical conclusion. The Jags wouldn't have eliminated us with a Bills WIN.  You need a remedial reading comprehension course.  There was nothing said about draft picks.

I agree but I do sorta see the logic. If the Bills can't beat Miami tonight with Waddle and Mostart sitting how are they beating them in Miami next week with both of them back? I know any given Sunday and all but feels like that stage they would be a bit wing and a prayer. I'd still rather be in than not. But I understand the thinking that if we can't win tonight it is better to try and pick 19th or 20th in the draft than 22nd or 23rd. Especially with where that second tier of receivers (after Harrison who is alone in tier 1) - Nabers, Odunze, Coleman - might come off the board.

I know there are some people who don't even want to think draft yet, and that is fine. But it is the time of year when my mind turns to it regardless of whether the Bills are in or out.

There was no logic to his post at all unless he replied to my post by mistake & was answering someone else.
