5 draft picks traded for 1

    no way

I'd offer the 21 and 22, plus a 2019 1st and a 3rd this year but not going 4 picks this year plus a 2nd from next year.

    24. Panthers - Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame

massively under drafted.  Likely to go top 10.

There's a decent chance we'll be picking top 10 next year with a rookie QB. No way I trade that away instead of our 2nd this year.

  2. Gunner, Kirby and Bandit - I think there may be one or two more among the TBD regulars that really put the time in to the draft process. Thanks for this! Can't wait to see the others also. While I am a Mayfield fan - his will to win and his accuracy remind me of Rivers but he also has a stronger arm and more mobility - I'd be fully on board with Rosen as well.

With this class being deep for RB and DT as well, Gunner, who do you think might slot into those positions when the Bills pick?

  3. My anger at the front office is that trading Watkins before the year just isn't smart. What's the best scenario with keeping Watkins? The new lineup catches fire, Tyrod does pretty well with a talented group of receivers, maybe we make the playoffs. Even if we missed the playoffs and decide to go all in on a new QB, wouldn't you want him to have a great receiver? We get a 2nd round pick for Watkins now. We'd probably get a 3rd round comp pick next year if we lost him and didn't want to tag him. This, to me, is arrogance in believing that a very good QB can win without great receivers. Not everyone is Tom Brady elite.

  4. Did the Falcons lose momentum in the second half of the Superbowl, or did superior coaching make the better adjustments?

Whether one has advanced degrees in math and science shouldn't preclude the idea that individuals don't tighten up or lose confidence after a succession of bad plays. Rather than use mathematics or hard science as a proof of momentum's existence, the psychology of pressure and (waxing or waning confidence) could explain a lot. As could better coaching and more experience in the big game.

  5. Gotham Bill, You and I usually are in sync. Not on this issue. If the Bills believe that when their turn comes up and there is a good qb prospect on the board they need to take action. Whether it is Trubisky/Watson/Mahommes/Kiser/Webb or whoever it is it would be a lost opportunity that we will regret. I'm not against trade downs. But not to the extent that we will risk losing one of our higher rated qbs.

The Bills are not a playoff team this year. If by luck they claw their way in it will not be sustaining. There are good qbs in this draft. Waiting another year with the hope of being in a more favorable position to get a legitimate franchise qb the next year is chasing a mirage. Once the qb issue is resolved on a long term basis this organization will have more flexibility to rebuild this mediocre roster.

2 of those 6 will probably be available at 31. Don't reach for a QB just because of need. Picks, picks, more picks for me ... we got rebuildin' to do.

  6. Hey, free speech, do you. I am not saying you aren't entitled to pop off at any given time. Doesn't bother me one bit. Clearly you were offended, I didn't think for a second that would be interupted to that extent.

I say absurd stuff all the time, I figured most would remember me from BBMB. Member there since back in '04 (BillsFan, no 17 on the end at BBMB) so I was pretty well known in regards to my types of posts.

The draft season tends to bring out all sides of people it seems.

Hell, watch this tho, I'll even apologize if I offended you. I don't need any Internet validation. I will apologize if what I said bothered you to that extent.

Not that he needs it and I've been on here since way before the Bills had a message board, but you did come in guns blazing on one of our best posters. That said, glad you made peace with him.

I'd sooner take Blokes' and Bandit's recs on a draftable player than most of the talking heads.

  7. New mock with extra 5th :)

    10: R1P10

EDGE SOLOMON THOMAS - allegedly #1 on Bills board and he was there. This is BPA all the way.

    STANFORD

    44: R2P12

LB ZACH CUNNINGHAM - athletic, smart WLB to replace Zach Brown

    VANDERBILT

    75: R3P11

WR JUJU SMITH-SCHUSTER - hand him a North Face jacket with his New Era draft cap, welcome to Buffalo!

    USC

    156: R5P12

CB RASUL DOUGLAS - good fit for McD. He likes those 32+ inch arms

    WEST VIRGINIA

    163: R5P19

TE JAKE BUTT - high end value here due to injury. Will be the next Jason Witten imo.

    MICHIGAN

    171: R5P27

RB WAYNE GALL MAN - Gillislee clone, one cut and go. Underrated RB in a stocked RB draft

    CLEMSON

    195: R6P11

S JOHN JOHNSON -- simply one of my favorite players in the draft

    BOSTON COLLEGE

If I could get those later round picks the way you have them projected, sign me up!

  8.

That's the thing, you've got to figure out how much is scheme-driven. Mitch Trubisky completed 68.2% of his passes but I still think he's got some potentially fatal accuracy/placement issues.

I wish things like average depth of target and yards after catch were more closely tabulated in the college ranks. It's a pain doing it myself.

Not sure if you saw the podcast on wkbw where Joe B discusses this very topic with Tyler Dunne. They discussed an analyst who reviewed the top 10 QBs in this class and broke down ranking by accuracy vs throwing distance. It showed Trubisky as #1 or #2 on pretty much all short and intermediate range (behind LOS all the way to 25 yds) throws but dead last on throws over 25 yards and by like 7 or 8 % points over the next worst.

Still not sure if that's an issue, however. Good mechanics, footwork and the best accuracy up to 25 yards ... does that trump deep accuracy? i'd really like yours and Bandit's and a couple other draftniks' opinions on it.

  9. Well, Chris Brown didn't refute the possibility:

CB: You’re right it wouldn’t be popular, but it wouldn’t be a reach or outlandish pick at all. I’m pretty confident McCaffrey goes in the top 10 somewhere. Personally I don’t think he gets past Carolina at eight. The reason why he’s so valuable is because in addition to his elite physical skill set is he can legitimately be lined up at receiver in addition to running back. He can also help on returns.

So a player with his multi-faceted production and athletic measurables to match signals top 10 talent. Not to mention his dad had a successful career in the league with Denver.

If the Bills pick him the narrative will be, ‘here they go again replacing running backs like they did with McGahee and Marshawn and Spiller.’ If the Bills don’t match the Gillislee offer sheet that line of criticism will be even louder.

What will be lost in such a scenario is the veritable matchup nightmare McCaffrey would be no matter where he lines up on the field. I believe he’s an elite talent, so he fits the value at 10.

  10. Kaaya seems to have it upstairs too. Game film and ability are great. But just watching this kid interact and listening to him makes me think he has more potential then most.

If you ask me he seems brighter and has more leadership qualities than Kizer and Trubisky. Watson has those leadership traits when it come to personality. But we are talking potential 4th round here so I take Kaaya.

Kaaya seems fundamentally flawed with his inability to deal with pressure. If he gets flustered in the college game, how's he going he going to handle adversity in the NFL?

    See Walter Football analysis below:

"There are two crippling issues that Kaaya fails to overcome. The first is whenever he starts feeling the pass rush, he drops his eyes and watches the defensive linemen swarm around him. On top of that, he is a statue in the pocket and rarely do you see him move to avoid rushers. There are lots of plays on which Kaaya looked like a deer in headlights who was just waiting to be tackled. Effective NFL quarterbacks keep their eyes downfield, glide in the pocket to avoid rushers, and deliver accurate passes in the face of a rush. It was a very rare sight to see Kaaya do that. Kaaya's struggles to pass the ball while under pressure are a huge problem that could lead to him not panning out in the NFL."

Tyrod's pay goes to 18 million next year. I don't expect him to be here. That leaves Cardale and Yates? No, none of these guys stop me from drafting a Mahomes and a Dobbs.

Dobbs is way less risky than Cardale. His ceiling might not be as high but his floor is much higher. I could see Dobbs being a #2 this year on a team. We shall see what Cardale has. When he played against the Jets he looked nowhere near ready for anything.

Good points. We have a difference of opinion on Dobbs. But if we don't pick Trubisky or Mahomes (not necessarily sold on either), I'm not counting on a miracle from the sky flyer in the later rounds.

  11.

The point of drafting a Dobbs is you are looking for someone that can start as a decent, cheap backup with some potential to be more. Cardale was a lottery ticket that might not even make the team this year. Only the Bills know if he has made any progress.

There were enough positive comments coming out of the Bills organization that Cardale was doing well with the scout team toward the end of last year. I think Cardale is less of a flyer than Dobbs and you really can't have multiple project QBs stashed away on your team. 1 starter, 1 backup, 1 project QB and possible training camp fodder to compete with the project QB. Maybe you think these guys are less of a flyer than Cardale. I don't.

Also from an earlier post wanting the Miami QB, the only 2 games I saw Kaaya play, he was clearly the worst player on the field - not just bad as a QB. I remember watching and thinking, "he has no feel for the pocket, looks rattled under pressure and has a scattershot arm" - I'm shocked that people think he'll even be a backup in the NFL.
