Yep,  Johnson is officially now one of 50 players that someone on TSW will insist has no chance of falling to #25 overall.

I like draft season but the amount of hot takes that come in from people who just started looking at the available talent two weeks prior is always

    Maybe.

I'm just commenting on what multiple scouts at the Senior Bowl were saying. He made most of the tackles look silly with his explosion and moves.

Sure, he could bomb at his pro day or the combine or he could completely justify the hype.

I’ll take Jermaine Johnson at 25 if available

No chance after his performance at the senior bowl practices. Just listened to a few different scouts commenting on two different podcasts and they all think he goes in the top half of the first round.

I actually think the Bills are one of the better tackling teams.

I think the problem when they miss tackles, is that they are out of position, possibly because they make the wrong read.

Joe Marino has been talking about this for a couple years on his podcast. The Bills have been one of the worst tackling teams in the NFL during the McD era. He says it's a shock that he continually sees the Bills near the top of missed tackles list because Sean is such a stickler for fundamentals.  I think after the defense being together for 4 years plus - at this point - players are who they are. We're not going to be a good tackling team unless we change personnel.

Didn't the Bills successfully employ a 5-man D-line (a 5-2-4 with Edmunds aligned on the edge) against the 49ers in 2020? And didn't they often utilize 3 LBs against the Pats the 2nd time this year and again in the playoffs? I know those are only a few examples, but I think the failures-to-adjust often loom larger than the successes-to-do-so.

That being shared, I STRONGLY believe the Bills D is too damned predictable, especially in critical passing situations (which often decide games).

The interesting thing about our defense with McD is we've consistently been one of the poorest tackling defenses in the league. Is that a function of having speedier LB and smaller DL than most? I doubt we're going to suddenly be good at tackling without some major changes to personnel.

We are usually middling in sacks but near the top in pressures. And in general, the Bills have a sound defense that can't be beat deep. I'm not sure we can ask for a whole lot more besides a top flight rusher to actually convert pressures into sacks. And that's easier said than done.

As far as the above bolded comment, we are still one of the top 3rd down defenses in football. We don't play passive - we usually go man and ramp up pressure on passing downs. I think there's some recency bias here.

Excellent.  Continuity, let's just hope the grooming of him and trust in him via passing game coordinator promotion last year was not misplaced.

Also, I think he has a chance to stick around and work well with Sean Payton in 2023.

Not sure if you're joking but whoever wants Payton will probably have to give up a couple first rounders to the Saints. They will still have his rights.

  6. I think it's the move to Bates. He's allowed Morse to play his game better and now there are actual holes for Devin.

Still don't know why we waited until injuries forced the move. Maybe so we would peak at the end of the season.

Milano - Again, while not exactly going up against a world beater offense without McD, Milano showed great coverage and closing speed.  He had a few plays where he forced the in-completion with quick hit.  He tracked outside runs quickly and got pressure in the backfield more than a few times.  The gap between him and Edmunds seems ever-apparent to me, but I'm tired of beating that drum.

I actually didn't get to watch the game live but all the Cover 1 guys said this was a terrible game by Milano. He was also horrible against the Pats until the last drive. I think all the LBs need to up their game this week for the Bills to win.

  8. I saw where we've given up the most pressure in the league. But Josh has only taken 22 sacks. If he was ANYBODY else, the Bills would be ranked near dead last in every protection metric.

This is all about the OL and besides Dawkins (at least of late) and Morse (until recently), we're fielding one of the worst lines in the league at the moment.

  9. I mean at this point our running game is pretty ineffective. And McDermott is pretty good about giving guys the hook if they aren't producing. Maybe choose between Singletary and Moss as the 3rd down back and give Williams a shot. He's bigger and can't be much worse at this point. Our OL is what it is.

Otherwise the running option changes we could try seem to be limited to more jet sweeps - or the threat of jet sweeps - at least a half dozen times a game with McKenzie or Breida.

I agree he is not the only issue but he was definitely an issue. He has been a bit of a disaster in the NFL.

They didn't give Darnold a big contract btw. They traded a 2nd and a 4th for him and they did pick up the 5th year option, but they are not tied to him beyond next year.

    No thanks.

I think Darnold's 5th year is only guaranteed for injury. They can cut ties with him at the end of the season with no further impact.

  11. Just as an aside. Which of these two teams had a better rush yards per game? Or better defense against the rush? Some folks may be surprised to learn that the Bills rush offense and defense are better than the Patriots. So let's not get too panicky here.

My only worry is turnovers. Need to win or stay even on that front and I think the Bills will be fine at home. Weather or no weather.

Moss is also a better in pass protection , but overall both of them are just average at best

At the end of year last year, Moss was rated as the best pass protecting running back in the NFL. Singletary want bad either. They are definitely not average.

So, you've watched the film yourself and compared their performance, right?

Because if you haven't you're only revealing a cognitive bias and that you're perfectly happy operating that way.

If you've watched the film and disagree, fair enough, that leaves plenty of room to disagree and make a ton of sense. If not ...

Well, I did see the game but no, I haven't seen the All 22 myself. But Joe Marino and Cover 1 have broken down several of the plays - and I trust what they're seeing. Rather than rebuke me for my opinion, perhaps comment on why you think Ford played well. I know the whole OL was bad but go watch some of the guys who look at the trenches describe what they saw.
