Kinda and extreme example of the Buffalo Police in the early nineties I think. I remember operation rescue coming to Buffalo around then because of Randal Terry to protest a clinic. I told friends on Capitol Hill that the Buffalo police won't care which sides the protestors are on, when they get unruly, which they did, they'll pull out the billy clubs and mace and start swinging, which they did. I'll never forget a photo that I saw in the Buff News that showed both pro and con abortion folks all mixed together and running from the police. My best idea on how to settle this issue! -

And that is another reason for a rational tracking and reporting law. Contractors or companies willing to hire are likely to break labor and tax laws on many levels. It might make them a little easier to catch and prosecute. -
Immigration

Thanks Johnny but VABills is part of the immigration problem, should send him back to where he or his family a couple of generations back came from. I see this debate on a couple of different levels, but the illega/ legal argument as a waste of time. I understand why folks try and get into this country by any means possible, the stupid felon label attachment means as much to the undocumented folks as it does to a drug addict. Actually a felony may mean more to the addict. However I do think a label attached to an undocumented alien should be able to be come up with to be able to track and prevent reentry. The real question is how to best deal with the migrant flows and how best to track folks coming in. The wall may be a step to partially prevent undocumented folks from entering. But the real problem is business that are always looking for short cuts willing to hire these folks. If you are going to label undocumented immigrants as illegals then you have to make it more than a felony for businesses and increase civil fines high enough to businesses that hire them to discourage the practice. Until this happens right wing self-righteous anger is hypocritical and probably racist. So much for all that human dignity puff crap the white house put out. Job issues are important and I can understand the frustration on that score, it is also a social issue. The same nasty responses were directed at the Irish, Italians and Germans and Chinese when they first came over, legally or illegally. A rational governmental response would help reduce some of this frustration. -

But if the right wing stuff gets close to passing it is going to cause the Republican heartburn with the Hispanic community. The LA protests didn't help, gins them all up and probably shores up the base for Dems, with the exception of South Florida. ExCubans will never vote Dem. GOP was making significant inroads using religious issues. -
The debate begins on Capitol Hill, fence....no fence, how far, documented, undocument..felon...guest workers, benefits, schooling, etc. Just thought it would be interesting if we could find any conscensus on the board. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/I/IMM...-03-26-20-55-12 My bet is that there won't actually be final passage or agreement on any bill, given the bipartisan dissention in the ranks. Still it should be interesting.

Interesting Take on Body Armor
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to Ghost of BiB's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Oh no, you listened to one to many Kika de la Garza stories. Bib, nice try but he seemed to me that a lot of GIs were complaining to their families about sub-standard armor and the Press picked up on it. Then the story just got away from everyone. Also, some substandard or misallocated armor supplies for different jobs were used and these stories made the news. Typical of the army they made everything mandatory. Of course heavy armor isn't alway appropriate, but some snafus combined with bad press eliminates all flexibility. Problem is, your post did not address accurately the reasons for the problem nor acknowledge army press bumbling. -
Wimp, no seriously, northern TX is different weather wise but the panhandle has too many slaughter houses and stinks. From East TX to Houston it seemed damp and hot while driving through this winter. San Antonio is very nice though, but very dry. Hurricane's are always a risk and after San Antonio, West Tx is flat, boring and hot, and bad air comes over from Mexico. I will take the snow any day. Besides if I want heat, SC and Georgia coast, the FL panhandle or SoCal is much nicer. TX women have neither soul nor sole...case in point Jessica Simpson, aka trailer trash.

This is just plain scary, not that they can't do it now without the box on an individual suspect, but now they will have saved records of all car movements. Might makes some interesting parental conversations though! -
NJ Democrats...Huh?
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to Ghost of BiB's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And Corzine is Jewish, nothing from nothing, but it would be an insult to his integrity not to do everything in his power to get rid of this guy for these statements. Unless the guy came up and kissed some major ass and made a groveling opology, quietly, then stood with Corzine in support of an Israel state or something along those lines. Would have lost is base though in doing so. The worst thing is that a simple small change in his choice of words would have avoided the debacle. Saying what you really feel in politics is stupid without carefully choosing you words. -
Jeopardy
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Ours came about under flood insurance, we were in the 100 year flood plane, guy living there 60 years lost his house had never seen a flood. Hurrican pushed 11 feet of water up the Potomac, insurance covered about 60 percent, FEMA about 20 percent and the rest came out of pocket. Something about dipreciation on goods, even then we had to argue, what a scam and then our insurance tripled. They said if down in Florida, it wouldn't have gone up so much, areas with less instances get subsidized less...whatever that means? -
Answer: Protection My answer: Insurance? And it is subized by the Feds, so I am doubly extorted...er, taxed. This rant came up after watching hurricane stuff today and thinking about dealing with my insurance company after the Isabel in Alexandria, VA.

No, Calista is okay, she always treated me well, just couldn't resist the Hill gallows humor and she was the quickest public example. Still can't see what she saw in Newt especially given his then wife's situation at the time. Never understood that mentality on either side of the battle of the roses. Wasn't raised that way. At least have the guts to divorce first then move on. Then we are talking about politicians and actors, pretty disappointing sometimes. -

Happens on Capitol Hill all the time, Dem women for some reason stay with their man, Republicans just get divorced and resign from Congress and join a high prices lobbying firm. -

Yeh, but you need to know how to use a chisel and scaper first. P.S. The biggest DIS that I ever saw written along these lines was for the women the Newt left his cancer laden wife for...Calista Bisek....Roll Called her "handsome in a Capitol Hill Sort of Way...she was the Scheduler for the House Ag Committee when I was there. http://www.newyorksocialdiary.com/socialdi...ista-Gingri.jpg -

Better yet, if the want to destroy things, send them to NO and help clear the wreckage left over from the Hurricanes. Heck they even speak a little of their language down their, might be good practicle education for them.
