The Patriot Act
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to Johnny Coli's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Now I don't disagree with you on the fundalmental rights, but are there any limits on either assembly or defending yourself, that is where we might disagree, but I think both are at least equal and the right to defend oneself is probably greater. Your statment, "...jumping up and down pretending the other guy is somehow worse..." statement I am not sure how to react to. For political argument sake I guess you have to believe they are worse and your folks are better or you shouldn't have chosen the side you are on, and just like others who disagree with my priorities choose others they believe are better. However, I acknowledge there are plenty of finks on both side. Yes, I focus on their side more often then my own, and I make an effort to point out where the other side is blatently wrong in their attacks. However, I try to acknowledge when I believe or understand my side is out in left field, i.e., Pelosi sometimes and McKinney whose field she is in, I think folks are still trying to figure out. Rush could share some Oxy and it still wouldn't do much good in that case. I guess it is not so much hypocritcal, but may be disengenous to use similar arguements to justify or fight against things I am for or against. Both sides do it because in certain instances the arguing style is just good politics, but it doesn't make for consistency of arguement, that I agree with. So shoot if you want to call me a hypocrite, so be it, but remember I am principled hypocrite! -

Ah jeez, you need an answer? Seriously, morally you are splitting hairs, both are crimes, societal, going around FISA and breaking a Federal Law. Otherwise gollum rules apply. -

Impeachment is actually close to an act removing the President from office, censure is more of a resolution telling him you are wrong and should refrain from this illegal activity, these are analogies. The House passed the impeachment resolution, from what I could find, the Senate tied 50-50 and did not pass it, but both voted on it. -

Sorry you are right, they voted on articles of impeachment which passed, censure is a more mild slap on the wrist for a more serious crime. -

LOL, if that was a planned strategy, I don't know what to say, but you never know with him. He did give my blond girlfriend, during his first campaign at a fundraiser, the old Clinton eye. She was trying to avoid him and he ignored 5 or 6 well wishers to say hello. We still bug her about it. Guess being unable to pronounce words or read smoothly from a script doesn't work as well as a foil for Bush. Did win him the election, but doesn't do much for press conferences. -

Oh common, really you think Bush has been investigated anywhere near as much for legitimate law breaking, not some tittilation about sex and some phony trumped up charges called Whitewater? The GOP beat Clinton to death with all their investigations, so until that happens there is no comparison. Sure I am partisan, won't deny it, but in this case civil liberties and rule of law, you right wingers so much like to hold as a standard for issues such as illegal aliens, should be applied. You guys even managed to get a censure resolution passed over the sex issue because the President lied about ....sex...., well this is a lot more serious, so why the double standard? -

When there are no political checks on the one party in charge and little info coming out except leaks it leaves us to assuming and hypothesizing, given this admins track record, hard not to trust the hypotheticals, rumors, innuendos etc. They don't give us any reason to think otherwise and the rest of the deceit speaks for itself. You think that we should trust the system? -

That or the Washington Times, either way it makes it easier, nice high horse there though, how many hands, can't see that high? -
Now that is a good question???, speaking of double double standards. But there is part of the Dem P.R. problem, we have never been very good at countering that one. Part of it is because those argueing against don't care what the answer is, they just keep repeating the same old lies. We are getting better at countering it, but the lie part still rubs too many off us the wrong way. Clinton was good at it, but he is the exception, rather than the rule.

No, saw him in the halls a lot and I think one time dealt with a staffer on some approps thing, but he didn't like Ag and I worked for a bunch of Aggies so it we wouldn't have approached him for any requests or help. Senator Roberts, then House Ag Committee Chair and Senator Grassley's folks I had the most contact with. Also Pombo's folks and some of the other Hook and Bullet club guys. Most aggies hunt and fish and as a result are avid conservationist too, rural Dems and Reps agree a lot on that issue, especially when some idiot farmer is letting his cows or hogs wallow in local streams or are dumping pesticides.

But they leave really pretty crop circles that get reported as visiting "illegal" aliens, not from Mexico. -

Man of course the AP used the worst photo they possibly could of her. When I start hearing "Halliburton" mentioned by you guys then maybe I can agree on this one, HA! -
Both screwed up the officers and McKinney. She is a hot head and I have very little use for her. However, the officers have a little photo card sheet with all Members and are suppose to have it memorized for Members of Congress. She is required to have her ID and button on her at all times, however. She is not the first arrogant @#$#$ that has gotten into problems with the Capitol Hill Police and they have a long way to go on their professionalism. A lot of young guns have been hire recently that have all the intelligence of Sean Penn when he played a rookie cop in that movie in South Central. Forget the name of the thing. Even the old timers up there shake their heads. Throw the two together and you are going to get some problems.

That is fine if the unmanned ones are confined to the cities, I want loud noisy black helicopters for rural areas. -
Unmanned Surveilance drones over America
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to Fezmid's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
My understanding from a former military guy in LA, when I asked what a couple of helicopter flyers in the distance were checking out, that they were using infrared over Watts looking for gangbanger. "Tin foil days" not that far off from the truth, hmmm. Man the whole thing gives me the hebee gebees. The rest of you might as well join the Communist Totalitarian Party or 1984 group think. No where to hide, no where to run, we are all just drones. How soon before we are goose stepping. -
Use cautious judgment and CYA? That boil it down? Seriously, difficult issue, you really don't want to have your finger prints on anything that appears to have a whiff of you going around that person(s). Better if you can get others to do that for you without you being even thought of as the source of their actions.
