Why the Church discounts scientists
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to VABills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You left out soliciting underage girls. -
Yeh I know, still why wasn't this caught, forget about the Bush Incompetent comment, did that for public consumption, couldn't let my reputation sag. While I was at USDA and on the hill every once in a while there would be a report of someone downloading porn while at work? Once guy at the Senate Printing and Graphics office was burning CDs and may have been selling them. I guess these guys are so obsessed they think they won't be caught and when they are in the system for a long time most of the time they won't be? Still an assistant Secretary of Homeland. Incredible.

Moran the gift that keeps giving
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to VABills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If Moran ever got in the Leadership, it would not be for long. P.S. He was born in Buffalo. -
Yeh, I heard that and only Bill Lamb can be excited, he can actually go to a Bills game again...if the Bills move then Football as a sport is history, who cares, kinda like the NBA. Give Blood...Play Hockey.

Delay to resign
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to EC-Bills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Politics is politics and sooner or later it hits everyone with mud, and ironically I still think that this country was on its best footing when Delay was majority whip and Clinton was President. Folks on opposite sides of the aisle from either would claim they are crooks, interesting what it says about those who claim to want to clean up the system....just a different set of crooks getting in office is all I can see would result. I just want to see a balance in powers with the net effect that the resulting competition does some good. -
Moran the gift that keeps giving

Then there is that, can't argue even when I think sometimes they are going to make progress, ha! No matter what they call it at the beginning and how good the original legislation looks, wait till you see the actual bill language and the Federal Register with the implementing language before you decide if they actually did anyting. Most of the time the final product creates more loop holes than it closes. -
Moran the gift that keeps giving

Man this is too close to home, I worked on the 1st Moran campaign, to get rid of Stan Parris. Moran has been relatively good for Alexandria except on the banking stuff and he has gotten worse as it has gone along. He was always ethically challenged, but early on he voted more according to my priorities than Parris or that idiot cevant McSlarrow who ran against him a bunch of times. I think the last time, I just left congressional blank on my ballot. I am sure there is more crap about him and the only real difference between he and Delay is that Delay was in a high place of power understood fully what he was doing also most of his folks working for Moran have avoided the ethical problems. Still Jim should step down. VA Bills statement that Moran is on a par with Delay is wishful thinking and relief on his part that he point to some crooks on our side, fine. Delay is still scum and "Pockets" as we used to call him, because you better make sure he didn't steal your wallet when you went by him deserves to be in jail. Moran I would jail for stupidity, alone, but legally it is questionable if he did anything wrong. Finally, some of the bodies Delay sunk are floating to the surface, and P.S. don't insult Jesus with your crocodile religious b.s. when you resign, that was just disgusting. -
When I say Dems, I mean the establishment Dems, not the lefties. Don't think Hillary can cut it, Warner doesn't have enough charisma, Richardson is seen as too much of a hustler, not sure who else out there would gain moderates' enthusiasm. The real left is looking for red meat, but Hillary has disappointed them, Obama is not ready and knows it, Biden is a Democratic version of McCain without the credentials...arrogant and testy. Not sure anyone jumps out that can do it at this point.

Got you, except both Zinny and he I thought were focusing in on Afganistan and whether enough forces were committed, Zinny felt not and thought we missed a huge opportunity to get Osama. Then the issue switched to Iraq. Hard to separate the two, I know but they are different even if stated in the same breath.

Amen, both parties do their absolute best to recruit them, especially Dems because of the perception that they are militarily soft. Obviously there is history and some truth over the last 40 years, but now it is more a left over lie from the 60s and the die hard anti-war gang. You are who you associate with I guess, just like we like to paint all GOPers as right wing religious fanatics. Good politics, not always true.

All that being said or granted, Franks, Rumsfeld or whoever put the limits on these decisons didn't have enough foresight to understand the ramifications or adjust after they became clearer. Sounds like a lot of technical b.s. for excuses to avoid admitting they screwed up. Even General Zinny this weekend described these decisions as strategic, not tactical mistakes and therefore at the door step of Rumsfeld and Franks. The interview I saw with Franks this weekend and the continued impression I get is that he is no more than a powerless mouth piece for Rumsfeld and says and does what he is told. He has got to be hatin life, because I get the impression he knows he is a sucker, yet he doesn't quit.
