The big lie you are telling is that you are neglecting the fact there is already rationing and these bills may actually lessen the current rationing. Eg. I can't get proper neurological help for my son in this area without paying out of pocket. It is dubious that I can afford. Someone with even less means couldn't. This by definition is rationing. So you are just repeating something that is already happening and people are already complaining about. Cardiologists... what do cardiologists know about rationing. They are having trouble living on $250,000 per year salary.... Please, stop the misrepresentation of the facts and so called future facts which are happening right now under the current system. What are you taking lessons from Pelosi on how to whine!

Get ready New Yorkers
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Anyone have a list of NY State Legislators and their districts so that we could all link to and evaluate. I don't have time now, but could look for one later. I just have very little knowledge about them. Also, their opponents could be a worse solution, so any kind evaluation of them would be good. -
So despite all the name calling on all sides, does or can anyone describe a plan or scrap the whole system and direct payer deal that could work?? This should probably be another topic and as much as I would hope, I know that it will end back in name calling... but heck we might get some good ideas. I still think eliminating insurance companies would be a good start. The tort reform would have to take place along with stricter criminal penalties with longer sentences. A partial exemption from civil penalties or a cap limited for Doctors. Hospitals would still be subject to liability as far as how it operated. Everyone would be given a government voucher for health care that could be turned in at the end of the years for a partial tax credit to be invested in a retirement plan or lifetime health savings plan. It would be funded by payroll taxes. Eliminating insurance cos alone should save the system a lot. That is where I would start. After that, I don't know. Any other ideas??

No, just that the statement implied a certain amount of poor me arrogance. Hey if doctors can make this poor me thing work for them politically fine... but don't tell me they deserve anymore then those scowflaw wall street traitors or professional athletes. It is what the market will bear, but what they deserve.... that is a question of priorities and that is what we are all arguing about.

Ted Kennedy...RIP
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Gotta think about that for two seconds and the names keep popping up: LBJ, Cheney, Reagan, Hatch, Gingrich, Delay, Clinton (both), Liberman, Long, Byrd.... I could go on and I still don't find many contradictions to your theory... -
Maybe I should re-phrase, the O-line as a topic the last couple of weeks has not been seen often on this board. I would expect it to be raised every day since that is the number one problem with this team IMO. ?Why didn't the Bills go after a left tackle??? Why are they starting two rookies??? Why did they draft so many DBs and then not resign them when they proved themselves, leaving draft picks for the O-line??? I remember a lot of the great teams such as the Steelers and Hogs, Redskins and Raiders were built with #1 draft picks. Heck, none of the Redskin Superbowl teams had good quarterbacks and yet they won by not screwing up and by have great O and D lines. The Bills Superbowl years had some great O-linemen. Why did it take so long for them to focus on the O-line? What now we have wait another 3 years before they can get this one to jell. Back to watching the Sabres struggle and DR not finding a decent playmaking free agent center.

It is apparent from the preseason games so far the Bills have a long way to go before the talent adn chemistry needed for consistent 0-line play is achieved to be a playoff contender. Yes there appears to be some talent there. But with two rookies and others playing out of the usual spots, I don't see how the Bills even come close to 8-8 this year. The D-line is still struggling and both have been neglected or mismanaged the last 10 years. We have all seen teams succeed with superior lines and mediocre skill talent, but rarely the other way around. I am surprised that there has not been more discussion on this board, more crap given the DJ and the front office for their lack of continuity and busts and for their priority placed on anywhere but the O-line and to a lesser extent the D-Line. Party of me hopes that the Bills suck this year so that they can draft well at these positions, but I am not counting on their ability to intelligently draft. So who in the college ranks or prospective free agents next year would you recommend the Bills going after?

Normally, I would agree, but I think that the issue is all so complicated and hard to understand in its details that having an honest debate about it could have been a good idea. I do think where the Democrats fell down or better yet where Obama fell down is that he walked away from the podium and did not direct or help the debate. Part of that responsibility is cutting off ideas that won't work especially on the House side. and how important it is for him to be part of the ongoing debate even Bush II understood this. Though his only priority seemed to be the War On Iraq, he did a masterful job of staying on top of the debate. Also, Pelosi has really done him and the Democratic caucus a disservice with her partisanship and I think Obama was slow to recognize the harm that she would do to this debate. Until Pelosi is removed from the House Dem leadership, the Dems will continue to flounder IMO. She is a good backbench bomb thrower, but not someone you want governing.

Run spell check before you post. That being said Jim has had a few issues over the years and a fiery Irish temper. P.S. He was a former gold gloves winner in Boston. Still wouldn't want to fight him nor provoke him. Idiot... no. Stubborn and ill tempered at times sure and he has a bad case of foot in mouth disease. P.S. Alexandria is a Democratic machine now because during the Gingrich years the Republicans screwed up and kept supporting an even more incompetent critter named Stan Paris. So the Republicans are staging protests and the Democrats are trying to cut them out... do you blame them because it is not a debate but a shouting match. Both sides are acting like idiots. Behind the scenes though below all the made up froth I will bet some compromise gets worked out. Doing nothing is not good for either side and the Republican block this it won't help them.

Photos of Ted Kennedy
YellowLinesandArmadillos replied to YellowLinesandArmadillos's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Nice catch. The photos were taken between 2003 and 2006 during my last days working in the US Senate and at a Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention I photographed for. I have plenty of other political photographs and someday I will put them all up online. -
