Could not agree with you more.  Your story is the exact same as mine.  Got seasons in our 20s, 1997 was the first year.  Had 20 guys.  Over the year throughout the mid 2000s, guys moved away, guys got married, guys had kids.  All dropped for different reasons, some of my friends just couldn't take the losing anymore.   they dwindled & It was down to me & my friend & we both take our sons our last few years having seasons.  He still has seasons with his son(he sits in the clubs now) & I still take my son to 2-4 games a year.  At times especially at the opener some of the old gang will show up.  The drunken shenanigans for the most part don't bother me & but the party candle that used to be so bright is dimly lit & the football side of this, rebuild no rebuild, the past 20 years has been an absolute disgrace to watch for the most part & anybody that says differently is just lying to themselves.

Yeah I'm pretty much going through the same thing this season.  I have already come to the conclusion that this will be my last year as a season ticket holder.  As I've gotten older I just enjoy watching the games at home more.  I am looking forward to re-designing my basement into a full fledged mancave with a ton of Bills stuff hanging all over the walls so it's not that I've lost my passion completely but I just don't have the excitement for the long, exhausting days at the stadium anymore.  I'm sure i'll still go to a game here and there and continue my annual tradition of seeing a Bills game on the road every year...but with the low demand for tickets these days my plan of keeping my seasons and being able to sell some games throughout the year has backfired and it makes no sense to keep it going at this point.  In life we go through many different era's and it's bittersweet but I recognize my days as a stadium experience guy are coming to an end and I am becoming one of those I just wanna watch the game from my couch guys!

  2. It's been trending this way for the last few years.  I can't make it to this weekend's game and I can't give the tickets away.  When I got back on the season ticket wagon a couple years ago I figured I would make it to 5-6 games a year and sell some games to recoup some money(not even worried about making a profit but it would be nice to get something for them) but with finances being a little tough these days I am already thinking this might be my last year.  I can't afford to constantly eat a full loss when i can't make it to a game.

How do you explain the Steelers winning the previous 4 seasons with pretty much the same culture?

I follow some Pittsburgh Sports Reporters on Twitter and have been following this situation for the last few years.  The Steelers have been underachieving for awhile and alot of things have been building up for the last couple years which has led to them imploding this season.  They have enough talent to win a Super Bowl but they have a ton of divas in the locker room and a lot of guys have friction with each other.  Steelers fans hate this current team and I've heard alot of comments saying for many of them they have never cared less about the Steelers before.  Do some research and you will see.  It hasn't been pretty over there regardless of their winning record the last few seasons.

That's because the Steelers are losing.  As much talent as they have, they are now losing.  They are not playing as a team.  When teams start losing despite the talent, the "business" end kicks in a lot quicker and players are not re-signed, leading to more dissatisfaction.  It's a vicious and flawed cycle.

The Steelers are the perfect example why Culture does matter.  That team is like a freaking Soap Opera right now.  Talent is still the most important piece but you can have talent and still not have the winning recipe which is what's going on with the Steelers right now.  You need to have talent and culture.  It's not a one or the other argument.  What people don't realize is McDermott is not gonna throw his guys under the bus in press conferences by saying "We don't have any talent on this team" but he and Beane know they have alot of work to do with the personnel.

I would love to hear some Green Bay experiences? How did you guys like Lambeau or the city of Green Bay itself?

    It was a blast!

Similar towns/people to Western New Yorkers.  The fans were so welcoming and friendly.  Everybody else I talked to said the same thing.  Did alot of drinking Saturday afternoon at Duzzi's, thought it was a fantastic sports bar.  Then the Bills Backer party afterwards at Stadium View was a blast.  We went to Milwaukee Friday for the Brewers game and hit a ton of bars there too.  Ate a lot of Brats and Cheese.  Toured Lambeau Field and saw alot of Packers history in the Hall of Fame.

Would highly, highly recommend any big football fan to make this trip at least once in their lifetime!

  6. I still sit back and reminisce about my childhood years and just how everything was in the 90s.  It was a great time in life, a simpler time for sure.  Way before smartphones and social media took over the world, a time when all of my grandparents were still alive and all of my family got along.  Had a great group of childhood friends, we spent entire summers playing street hockey and backyard football, riding bikes down hills, building forts(and yes playing video games too lol).  I really think it was the last generation that got to enjoy an amazing childhood.  Sometimes I miss it so much it hurts.  Blows my mind when I think about how much the world has changed since then.

  7. The problem is the NBA is such a joke of a sporting league nowadays with all the marquee players finding ways to collaborate and up playing in the same market together.  Buffalo wouldn't have a shot to be competitive.  Even if they drafted some phenom as soon as that rookie deal's over he would off to play in LA or Miami.

Although I'm sure Buffalonians would be excited and supportive to have a basketball team, I think that BS would wear pretty thin on the WNY fanbase pretty fast and without a long, rich storied history of pro basketball in Buffalo I could see the average Western New Yorker losing interest fast in an NBA team here.  Not to say there aren't alot of basketball fans in WNY because there are but I just couldn't see this being a good idea with the state of today's NBA.  Just my two cents.

  8. I was in Green Bay for the game over the weekend and was chatting with some locals who talked about the two decades of miserable football that followed the Lombardi years and how it looked hopeless for so long...and then some young punk wearing #4 came along and changed everything...they were just saying to hang in there because it can change very quickly and it will be so rewarding.  Just some outsider perspective I picked up over the weekend that I thought would be worth sharing here.

  9. I know I'm a little late to the party on this one but this has been my first chance to get on the boards since I got back in town but regardless of the Bills laying a huge egg...this trip was amazing and full of memories I will never forget! Packers fans in both Milwaukee and Green Bay were amazing and seemed genuinely excited to see the Bills Mafia in town.  Some even bought our group rounds of drinks! For anybody that is a diehard football fan it is an absolute must to get down to Green Bay for a long weekend and enjoy the experience, sights and sounds from such an awesome and historic NFL city.  My new number 1 favorite Bills road game I've been to.

The point is that Buffalo has all of those things. It's not some dump.

If you want more, that is a flight to anywhere, away.

People forget how close and accessible Toronto is for these guys when they wanna live it up at the clubs and enjoy the big city life.  People also forget about how much these guys enjoy hanging at the Sundowner right over the border.

  11. If the Bills Backer tailgate party is anything like the one they threw in Kansas City a few years back everybody will be in for an absolute blast.  There was plenty of booze and food to go around for everybody so don't get nervous.  Just try to show up with at least a case of beer to contribute.  I also have a feeling Bills fans might be taking over many Wisconsin bars all weekend just a hunch

You must be one of those fans that consider the modern era to be post Super Bowl run.

    Bills 41  Oilers 38   F-OT   Period ... Exclamation point.

Yeah absolutely.  The 80s/90's were on a whole different level!  I guess I was referring to the 2000's/playoff drought era and it is actually pretty sad that a week 3 win ranks so high up there but that's what we've been dealt with since 99.

Another game that gets honorable mention though is the 2002 Snow game against Miami where Ricky Williams ran all over us but Bledsoe and Moulds had a huge day.  There was just something magical about that day, looking back at it now that game was actually much closer to the 90s era than the current era and it still had more of the old school charm at that point before the game became over commercialized and social media showed up into the picture.  Was at that one with my Dad and brother, a memory I will never forget!

I wouldn't compare him to Brady personally.  Brady usually makes the intelligent play and tries to minimize risks.  Brady can seemingly put the ball wherever he wants.  Josh Allen throws caution to the wind and will try and make the impossible play...and you know what, he does fail sometimes turning into an INT but then he will come back and make the impossible possible with a run for his  life scramble and 65 yard heave downfield across his body to the receiver for a touchdown.

I see some early similarities to Brett Favre.  In his prime Favre was the most fun Quarterback to ever watch play football

  14. There will still be a ton of growing pains I'm sure but the kid just seems to have "IT"...the ones that have "IT" show flashes of "IT" pretty fast.  I remember Brett Favre's first game against the Bengals.  He was super raw but he showed he had natural instincts to play QB in the NFL.  I really think we are seeing that with Allen already.  I never once had the same feeling about Trent Edwards, JP Losman, EJ Manuel, or Tyrod that i do with Allen.  This truly feels like the arrival of a special Quarterback for once.
