Thurman Thomas had a knee ligament from a cadaver when he was drafted. I think it depends on conditioning and sheer luck. -

I think that by the time college players get to the draft, they all have some sort of medical issue. Especially lineman. -

For a minute there, I thought Andre was going to go out and start taking out some of the boo birds. Seriously, why would you want to wait in line for hours to get in the place, and then boo everybody that comes up? -

Not sure he's ready to step in from day one, but I think if he gets serious about conditioning, he could be scary in a hurry. They'll definitely use him in short yardage -
WR Stevie Johnson traded to San Francisco 49ers

You don't know what happened between EJ and SJ, what the coach did to try to solve the problem, or the specific issues between the two of them. If SJ catches the winning touchdown pass, then they were wrong. My point is that this happens all the time in the NFL. Ask the Colts (a winning organization, right?) how the Trent Richardson trade worked out. I would suggest a visit to other teams' message boards after one of their veteran players is traded. -

It's a bad business decision in your opinion. Coaches and GM's put their stamp on an organization. It's not the mark of a good coach to try and make everyone happy. It's his job to put the best team on the field, by his view. Obviously the current staff felt that he didn't fit. Where they right? The team's 2014 record will be the determining factor. As far as the Bills being "broke".........sorry but it's not true. -

I suspect that there are issues between Stevie and Marrone that may have become impossible to work out. Since we don't know exactly what the issues are, I won't lay blame on either one. This is a typical business deal. High salary cap+injury problems+new coach and staff = trade, or cut. Whether this was a good decision or not will be determined by the team's W-L record this coming season. -

I would suggest practicing taking deep breaths. This was a business decision. Decisions like this happen in the NFL every year. Take a look at the long list of current veterans who don't have a job. There are some pretty decent players there. It's the way things go. No NFL franchise is broke. It's called the salary cap. -
Donald Sterling in hot water

I listened to the recording and it was one of the weirdest conversations I've heard in a long time. Especially the part where (paraphrasing) he said that she could sleep with them and hang out with them, but not take them to Clippers games. Adding in the fact that she's of African American and Mexican descent, this guy is conflicted at best, or at worst, a racist in the way the old slave owners were: Thinking that they're inferior, but usable as workers. Plus, the guy looks like a little creepy troll. I hope he enjoyed owning the team, because he'll be out of the picture soon. -
My heart just sunk - RE: Kelly's cancer battle
gobillsinytown replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In October of 2012, my wife was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Today, she is cancer free, with about a 5% chance of recurrence. I went from terrified to confident in the space of about a month. Cancer is a strange, complex and frightening disease, but it can be overcome. Many people with Jim's form of cancer have beaten it. We've all read and experienced the stories of people who have been declared terminal with cancer and survived. I think we're beginning to turn the tide. One of the most exciting fields to be in right now is cancer research. Over the last 20 years, the cancer genome has been mapped and now it's starting to pay off. When I spoke with the head of the pharmacy department at the breast cancer center where my wife was treated, he said that he believes we're less than ten years away from having "bullets" for various forms of cancer. So even though this disease can in fact be a death sentence, it can also be something that is quite treatable. When Jim's treatment team said that his cancer was treatable and curable, I believed them. -
Jim Kelly coming home - anyone going to meet the plane?

It would be a nice gesture but I think because of the significance of this weekend to Jim and his family, it's probably better to send him a letter or email....or better yet make a donation to his foundation. -
No excuse for not securing Buffalo ownership
gobillsinytown replied to jahbonas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For everyone who thinks that the Bills leaving Buffalo is a foregone conclusion.....the NFL will not take moving the team lightly. One of the NFL's primary selling points is tradition. The Bills are one of the original "foolish club" teams, with a great deal of history and tradition behind it. While I understand the concerns that Buffalo is a small market, declining city, etc. that doesn't tell the whole story. For example, if economic considerations were the only factor, then why do Detroit, Cleveland, and Jacksonville still have teams? All three of those cities have experienced significant economic decline and in Detroit's case, a more precipitous decline than Buffalo. Yet no one is talking about Detroit losing the Lions. Jacksonville is being discussed only because of lack of fan support. In purely economic terms, even Pittsburgh and Philadelphia could be included. Both of those cities have their economic strengths, but are a shadow of their former selves. The NFL has more than enough collective wealth to keep a team in Buffalo quite profitable. -

Schefter: Bills tried acquiring Chris Johnson

Don't believe everything your read. Schefter is fairly accurate, but not 100 percent. Johnson's agent could be the "source" -
I know the NFL wants to expand to other countries like Canada, but I think they might need to revisit this idea. While the NFL brand is certainly popular in other countries in terms of viewership, I'm not sure that would necessarily translate to consistent stadium sellouts. There is a certain price to pay for the kind of success that the league has had over the years, which is that everyone is gunning for them and so they cannot afford to rest on their laurels. So I can understand why there is a continuing need for expansion and evolution. However I think that expansion for the sake of it carries some risks. No one really knows whether the NFL will succeed as a "resident" sport in Europe, or even Canada. Right now, I think the NFL has a novelty factor to it in other countries. It's been a while since the NFL has failed in a city, so it will be interesting to see how many risks they're willing to take.

It's unlikely that we'll find out the full details as to the admistration of the trust. We might find out who the principal people are, but not much beyond that. Trusts of this size are usually pretty complicated, particularly trusts that involve NFL teams. For example: It may or may not be true that the trustees are legally obligated to sell the team. Before Ralph died he did say that the team will be sold upon his death, but not when. Is there a time specification as to when it will be sold? We don't know. Complicating the issue is the lease agreement, with its 400 million dollar termination penalty. The team can be sold, but the penalty makes it prohibitive to move the team. That changes who might be interested in buying the team. If an interested party wants to buy the team but keep Buffalo.....great. However if an interested party buys the team with intention of moving it, they will have to wait 7 years before they can move. The point here is that there are a lot of interested parties, including: Potential buyers, the city of Buffalo, New York state, the fans of the team, the trustees and all of their people, etc. Taking all of this into account, I don't think that the issue is going to be resolved anytime soon.

Jim Kelly treated for cancer recurrence
gobillsinytown replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I had related earlier in this thread, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of 2012. Today, she is cancer free, with about a 5% chance of recurrence. During the whole process, I went from being terrified to being confident. This came after talking with the head pharmacist of the hospital. His wife went through the same thing more than a decade ago and she is cancer free also. When I asked him about the latest treatments and what's on the horizon, he told me that in his opinion we are less than 10 years away from having "bullets" to treat various different kinds of cancers. All of the DNA mapping that's been done over the last 15 years or so is starting to pay off in the form of new therapies that are specifically targeted. He said it's a very exciting time to be in the field of cancer research. Shared DNA databases and collaboration between researchers all over the world are leading to a significant increase in the knowledge of what cancer is and how it develops. Between surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and new "adjunct therapies", the future of cancer treatment is looking very bright. So, when I read that Jim's doctor is optimistic about his prospects, I believe him. -
Jill Kelly's facbook update
gobillsinytown replied to gobillsinytown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2012. Fast forward to today and she is cancer free. That being said, the diagnosis and treatment process can be terrifying at times, and my wife's cancer was very treatable. So I can't imagine the fear that's gripping Jim and his family right now. Of course, they will be brave and have the proper mindset. Their faith will also carry them a long way. Unfortunately, it's human nature for our thoughts to go to the worst possible outcome, I think as a defense mechanism. I hope to God their optimism in the face of extreme adversity is rewarded. -

Jill Kelly's Facebook page is updated and indicates that surgery is not an option for Jim because the cancer is in areas that cannot be reached. The specialists are recommending chemotherapy and radiation. I'm not sure this is a good sign. Medical people: Your thoughts? ....a truly nasty week for Bills fans.
