  1. I seem to recall someone bringing up Hamilton a few weeks ago...

    http://forums.twobil...e__hl__hamilton

Termini speaks the truth, so he will be pilloried for it. But does it have to be in Hamilton? Frankly I think NF, ON would be a more fun place for a stadium. You have casinos, hotels, tourist attractions, the "ballet". You could hold special events, like a bowl game or Super Bowl, because you have infrastructure.

    PTR

Frankly, if they are going to build a new stadium in Niagara Falls - it better be on the US side. Our economy needs it more than theirs...

  2. Bills move to Hamilton or Toronto - say goodbye to any substantial support from Buffalo, Erie PA, Rochester, Syracuse, etc.

Also, say good bye to the fans that support this team in Bills backers bars across the world. I bet you add up all the folks that hit up those bars scattered around the country - there are more Buffalo Bills fans supporting the team remotely than all that come down from Toronto.

The Bills are bigger than Buffalo. They have worldwide support. Can Buffalo's corporate community support the Bills alone? No. They must regionalize but not at the expense of Bills Nation.

Termini is entitled to his opinion but should not be speaking to the Mayor of Hamilton about this - he doesn't even own the team.

Termini told Daybreak he had been contacted by Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina and that he was interested in the idea. Bratina confirmed he contacted Termini after hearing about the story being on the Buffalo morning newscast. He did not offer the developer any commitments. “We had an interesting and pleasant conversation, but I would apply the term ‘Blue sky’ to this kind of proposal since there are no details regarding site, financing, interest by the Bills, et cetera,” Bratina said in a statement. “I do have confirmation, though, that the Anchor Bar is opening a franchise in downtown Hamilton early next year.” Bratina said, as mayor of Hamilton and a former football reporter, his interest and focus is “obviously” on the sustainability of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Canadian Football League.

Rocco - love what you're doing downtown with the LaFayette and all the condo/apartment/loft conversions - but do us a favor and stick to redeveloping Buffalo.

You would think you would WANT the Bills in Buffalo - with the team, players and visitors supporting your development efforts.

Just crazy to suggest this crap.

Email Rocco - complement him on his redevelopment efforts but to lay off the Buffalo Bills to Hamilton crap.

  4. And out the window goes your argument that it is a simple and relatively short commute, no worse than getting to OP.

I love the enthusiasm, but seriously doubt that the Town of Grand Island and the NYSTA would have no objections to designating that entire section of the 190, along with all 4 Grand Island bridge spans (2 on, 2 off) unidirectional.

(Grand Island is indeed an island, with no alternate route on and off except the I-190. The 20,000-plus folks who live on it are all going to agree to stay home on game days???)

As for the concept of Metrorail expansion - perhaps you have either forgotten or are too young to know that it took over 10 years just to place a few Adirondeck chairs on the lawn out at Canalside.

And I won't comment on the safety of offering ferry service to large numbers of drunken Bills fans except to say that, if I'm the Captain, most of 'em are not getting on my boat.

As for the Canadian fans, you seem to have that covered. Unfortunately, you don't need to - unless they are already Bills fans, there will not be vast numbers of new Canadian fans clamoring to buy Bills tickets just because they play in Niagara Falls.

It's time to stop living in the past - that's half the reason why Buffalo Niagara cannot move forward. We get it - it takes forever for things to change - but if you're talking about a billion dollar private investment - things will get done and most will not stand in the way of it because it will be driven by Cuomo; not mickey mouse guys like Higgins and Mayor Brown or the Mayor of NF.

Yes, people can argue over the Peace Bridge (for good reason) or the waterfront (whatever - there is plenty of it besides that smidgen near the Skyway) - but things will get done - just let go of the past.

And to address your question about Grand Island - it was just suggestion - not a be all end all - like to see u come up with something instead of just B word - oh, and the damn bridges can open up during the game. GI residents are used to dealing with the bridges - they chose to live there - so get over it.

  5. Numerous transportation options for Niagara Falls...

North Bound Travelers – BUF/Amherst/South towns:

    1) Both Grand Island Bridges can be used going North bound during game days before the game and both South bound after the game - traffic not going to the game could be rerouted via NF BLVD, River Road via NT.

    2) River Road to LaSalle Expressway also avoids the 190 all together.

    3) Niagara Falls BLVD for Amherst/Williamsville folks.

    4) Future ferry service between DT Buffalo/Grand Island/NT to Niagara Falls can run on game days.

    5) Future Metro Rail Expansion.

West Bound Travelers – Lockport/Rochester, etc.

    1) RT31 and RT104 for Lockport and Rochester folks.

    2) NY Thruway - via Pembroke Exit.

    Canadian Travelers:

    1) Canadians can use the Lewiston Queenston Bridge and arrive via the 190 and go through Hyde Park via Porter/Packard Exit or via Deveaux/104, etc.

    2) Canadians can walk or drive across the Rainbow Bridge.

    3) Trains from Canada can use the Whirlpool Bridge.

    4) There is talk between Niagara on the Lake and Youngstown to offer ferry service between the two towns.

And NO - we're not changing the name of the team - they will always be the Buffalo Bills.

  6. You really think Cuomo gives a flying !@#$ about the Bills stadium?

He cares about what all top end NY politicians care about, NYC. If they carry the city they get (re)elected. Buffalo is a pimple on the ass of nowhere by comparison.

If you want to try and do something constructive, target local politicians who DO need to get reelected by the people in the Buffalo area.

I respectfully disagree. The local politicians get it... the money for this project, however, is coming from the State.

  7. Do not like what I read in today's newspaper regarding the lease.

Is it time to start calling the Governor?

Anyone know how to create a Facebook page so that we can circulate/join demanding that our leaders come together to get this lease done now?

    http://www.buffalonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120911/CITYANDREGION/120919780/two-bills-drive

You can contact the Governor by calling:

Or use this form to email him directly: (518) 474-8390

    http://www.governor.ny.gov/contact/GovernorContactForm.php

Please share any other ideas on how we can get pressure on our leaders to get this thing done...

    thanks.

    Go Bills

  8. If the proposed Lancaster dome had been built, it would've have been outdated and most likely replaced years ago. I believe the seating capacity for football was somewhere around 60,000, and it was going to be configured for baseball as well as football, making sightlines less than ideal.

Does anyone have a link to what the proposed Lancaster dome would have looked like?

  9. Indianapolis is the 12th largest city in the country and has the infrastructure (hotel beds being the main component, as JW said) to pull that off. Remember, in addition to one Super Bowl, Indy's suburb hosts one of the most famous auto races in the world. NCAA is headquartered in Indy, and that city hosts the Final Four every five years. It's set up for large events. Buffalo is not. Further to JW's point, I believe that when Detroit (which also is smaller than Indy) hosted the Super Bowl, and people had to stay in Windsor, the situation was viewed as far from ideal.

Would I like Buffalo's economy to be more like Indy's? Sure. If that's what you meant by "Buffalo could learn a lot from Indy," then I'm right there with you. (And New York could learn a lot from Indiana, too.)

But if your point is that Buffalo should start planning for a future Super Bowl, I've got to disagree. The stadium is relatively far down the list of reasons why Buffalo can't do that right now.

Never said anything about Buffalo hosting a Super Bowl; simply implying that a downtown stadium can work and Indy's urban planning is pretty good.

  10. In order for the Bills to survive and stay in WNY, they are either going to need a newer stadium built to help maximise profits, or expnsive upgrades will be needed to give RWS a facelift and prices increased in order for them to stay economically viable and compete financially with the rest of the league. Ralph is not in debt with the Bills because they were paid off years ago. He doesn't need to do much in order for the team to turn a profit. But the next owner will need to maximise profits in order to help keep the team in the area and pay off the debts he will have purchasing the team.

apuszczalowski hit the nail on the head.

Also, Indianapolis made out quite well and will definitely host the Super Bowl again.

Buffalo could learn a lot from Indy.

Super Bowl XLVI's Real Winner? Indianapolis!

  11. You have a small market team playing in a state with the second highest level of government and state spending.

That is why NY State will continue to bail out any team that plays in WNY.

Regarding all this discussion about taxes, money and what downstate and upstate want - what's a hundred million when this state spends over $302 billion dollars a year?

The Bills will never leave WNY - no matter what the folks in Albany B word about and the freaks in NYC want.

    Go Bills

  12. If I didn't know better, I would have assumed it was a home game for the Redskins based on the crowd reaction as you could hear it on TV. It sounded like a half-empty stadium watching their team lose 23-0.

I guess I didn't realize how few Bills fans go to these games.

Let's stop being so dramatic here folks. I was at the game. Did it feel different? Yes. But did I see and hear more Bills fans? I did.

But did it feel sterile and forced? Yes. But this was the first year that the Rogers Centre appeared sold out.

It took me 1/2 the first quarter to acclimate to the differences. I sat at the 50 yard line - 30 rows up from the field. Seats were $340 each. I got the tickets for free. I would never sit that low again. There was no pitch - so, it was hard not to want to watch the jumbotron rather than the game. These seats would be great for a baseball game; but not football.

I, on the other hand, could not believe how many BILLS fans and Bills jerseys, etc. I was actually impressed.

We took the train from Burlington and was amazed how many BILLS fans got on the train from each stop all the way into Toronto. We need these fans. On the way home; standing room only on the train - and mostly bills fans. Were there other jerseys and redskins fans - yep - but no different than the Ralph; EXCEPT for the atmosphere.

The whole game day experience is flawed. No tailgating as we all know. And the atmosphere at the game was sterile. I actually felt uncomfortable seeing videos on the jumbotron of Bills players telling "Toronto fans to get off their seats and yell." It was just so forced.

We all can agree that we are not a fan of the Toronto series but we have to accept it. The Bills success and long term future in Buffalo is contingent on similar success up in Toronto.

    Go Bills

  13. I thought I saw a thread here earlier in the year that listed web addresses for opposing teams message boards but cannot seem to find it... I enjoy reading what our opposing fans have to say about the upcoming game, etc.

I typically use Google and find what I need but this week - either Giant fans aren't too active or I just can't seem to find the best one; cuz they're all rather quiet, etc.

Any thoughts? Which site do you reference?

    thanks!

  14. Folks--heading to Dallas for the game next month and am starting to make my travel plans and so was wondering if anyone had any advice on hotels/areas to stay while in the Big D. Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance....

Check out hotwire.com. I just booked a hotel/sport-ute package for $75 plus tax.

I could not see which hotel I was booking but selected a four star and ended up with the Sheraton in Dallas for that weekend.

    Go Bills! :)
