    I won't tailgate downtown

And building it in the Perry project's will STILL up all of our taxes in the city which are still too high. I never said a stadium in OP would cost a billion...

A stadium Downtown would cost a billion which we can't afford

And honestly Buffalonians don't care about Canada honestly, I don't care about southern Ontario I'm American

    You're so dramatic.

And you may not care about Canada but you know damn well the Pegula's do - Canada is one of the ONLY reasons why this team can survive in Buffalo.

Buffalo is NOTHING like those cities and we don't need to "grow up"

Gentrification is just another word for pushing lower income families out of there neighborhoods and unless pegula pays 100%, the city of Buffalo and it's tax payers cannot take that on

Our cost of living is already sky high. The city has a unique feel for over a hundred years and Buffalo is a special place

We don't need a billion dollar palace and I don't need to be priced out of my city

We need to build the new stadium in a lot in OP. Nothing says it revitalizes the economy. Nothing

Funny - the likely place for a downtown stadium is the Perry projects - which are empty.

And no, you don't spend a BILLION DOLLARS, or even a HALF Billion dollars in Orchard Park.  You build closer to the fastest growing region in our area - SOUTHERN ONTARIO.

It's ok bro - you'll adapt. You'll enjoy tailgating in the city - we know that's all your care about.

It's going downtown. Worst secret ever.

All for it.  I've been to numerous stadiums - my favorites are all the ones downtown.

The neighborhoods around the Seattle stadium... bars, restaurants, condos and people everywhere - going bonkers - the vibe - was so cool - before the game, after the game, and the next day.  Just a cool vibe.

Went to the Titans game this year - walked to and from the stadium - just very cool.  Same with Baltimore last year.

Went to the Pittsburgh game this year - SO MUCH FUN.  Took their elevated light rail one stop from downtown and the stadium was right there.  We tailgated before the game - YES - TAILGATING IN AN URBAN SETTING - hopped into the Casino to warm up before the game - (Casino was filled with Bills fans) - and then went to the game.  Just a fun experience.

It's time to grow up Buffalo.

You tailgaters will adapt. You will go to the games. And you will find a new way to enjoy Bills games...

    GO BILLS!

PS: I know some of you point to what Bob Kraft did with Patriot Place.  Guess what?  It's a fake plaza with restaurants and stores that are DEAD MOST OF THE TIME; even weekends. As someone who lives in Boston - its a joke.  You can't replicate the real thing - put the stadium in the city and work it into the urban fabric.

Thats a fair statement - but some of the promises are BS.  The jobs you bring are all temporary - construction - temp workers to do concessions 15 times a year.  The economic impact can be questionable too - parking, concessions, tickets... all that profit goes to the owners.  I'm sure local businesses get a boost, but again were talking 10-15 times a year.

Unless it is a multi-use stadium...

Here are the events scheduled at the Convention Center this year:

    Differing opinions.

And I'm not saying it has to look like Lucas Oil, just that it doesnt HAVE to look like Minn's new US Bank Stadium or Atlanta's new MB Stadium which would be out of place and possibly tacky in Buffalo (although I personally do like both of those stadiums). Point is, there isn't a rule on how it has to be designed. Heck they could tie in some Frank Lloyd Wright aspects and have it look modern yet still very "Buffalo".

Yep - definitely different opinions and perspectives.  And I agree it doesn't have to imitate US Bank or Mercedes Benz stadiums - but I'm just not a fan of mimicking authentic architecture we already have here.  It's fake.

With that said - I always liked the look of this concept:

You want to talk about wasting money? Spend $500M-$1B building an open-air stadium in the suburbs.

New stadium will go downtown, and it will be enclosed so it can be used for more than 8-10 days a year. We already need a new convention center, boom there is your new convention center too.

And just like they built Lucas Oil Field in Indy to match the surrounding warehouses and industrial buildings, they can build the new stadium to match Buffalo's existing architecture.

You had me up until you suggested we mimic Lucas Oil Field. Buffalo already has WAY TOO MANY old, authentic warehouse and industrial buildings.

Why Micky Mouse it when we could design something that is bold and architecturally modern?

I cringe every time I see Lucas Oil and Ford Field.

Hard to say and Erie County executive is not an appointment for life.  Maybe the next person will be more workable.  I'm pretty pessimistic about the City of Buffalo and Albany at this point in time.  The Governor of NY does not need Bills fans to be elected or re-elected which is the simple reality of that.

Yeah, no politician wants on their resume the departure of the Buffalo Bills from NYS.

NYS will step up - and as I've said before - look no further than the NYS Power Authority.  The Power Authority bank rolled CanalSide and should be expected to assist with the Stadium.

"Pegula added if a new stadium were to be built, there would be many challenges ahead.  “It’s going to take a lot of work from a lot of people. The county, the fans, us, the stadium, the league, the state,” she said."

The county's not going to help--Poloncarz has already said as much.   New York State is battling a structural deficit due to federal Medicaid reimbursement changes and it will be very tough to go hat in hand to them.    The fan base does not want to (can't) pay for PSLs or substantially higher tix prices.

So, who does that leave to fund the thing?    Pegs and the league.    That doesn't seem like a funding model the NFL will embrace...

Laughable - Poloncarz will be the last person invited to the conversation about future funding for the stadium.

I don't think you read what I actually wrote.  If a new stadium goes into OP it will be built next to NE then when complete NE gets demolished.  Parking gets screwed up for a year or two but the area can handle it.  This means the Bills play in NE until the new stadium is complete.  Just like what was done in the Meadowlands.

I think that you meant "What are the hidden costs in building downtown?"  Environmental impact studies.  Eminent domain.  removal of hazardous materials whether it be from abandoned homes such as with lead and asbestos or industrial materials from a brown field site.  Nuisance lawsuits designed to get graft for a select few.  All that is in addition to utility upgrades, runoff and drainage control, roadway modification and changes/new construction to name a few.  100 million was the figure tossed around for all that on the old BBMB by people who actually had some idea as to how development planning is done.

Pegula's will build where it makes financial sense for them.  That could be any number of places.

Why would you spend a BILLION plus dollars in Orchard Park?

And you keep asking where the money will come from if they build downtown.

WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING TO COME FROM IF THEY BUILD OR RENOVATE IN OP?

And yes, it will be a public / private partnership.  LOCAL politicians should insist the state tap into the CASH COW in our own backyard - the NY Power Authority.

And last, who cares what Goodell says - the Pegula's will figure out financing. If and when some come from the State/County for the stadium or infrastructure - so be it.  But Goodell doesn't get to stipulate where the money is coming from; even if the NFL kick in from their stadium fund.

    Next question?

  10. 17 minutes ago, RochesterRob said:

Reverse the order.  Who is coming up with the stadium costs plus incidentals for downtown?  Remodel is the least expensive way to go and most realistic.  Building next to New Era would be next as a minimum of changes and studies would need to be done.  Downtown opens a whole new can of worms in terms of players who need to be bought off to get a project done.

It's ok - everyone has a preference. Yours is OP.  We get it.

I agree on your first two points, however........

point #3: Build an all new state of the art Stadium/Convention Center downtown near Canalside.

There are better things to develop near the waterfront than a stadium-

point #4: I don't buy the BS about downtown not having the infrastructure to support a stadium - the city was once 4 times in size and population

The city doesn't have the infrastructure in place. When Buffalo had "4 times in size and population", It was at a time when families had 1 car. Not 2-4. People actually used buses back then. You do have the 2 lane Skyway leading to Rte 5 and the 3 lane 190 as express routes out of the city. And if a new stadium is near Canalside, there will be huge traffic backups to get to the 33. What do you do when wind or blowing snow closes the skyway on a game day? Everything comes to a stand still. This doesn't work.

point #5: There are also multiple modes of transportation to the City v Orchard Park.

??? seems like the same transportation beside the metro rail.

point #6: You don't spend $500M on an old stadium in Orchard Park - which could not be further than the fastest growing area in the region: Southern Ontario.

I agree that New Era shouldn't have money sunk into it. But, Orchard Park is less than 10 minutes from downtown Buffalo. 10 minutes isn't going to make or break Southern Ontario Bills/NFL fans.

    1) When I say near CANALSIDE, I'm referring to the open areas behind the Buffalo News near the Casino.  I went to the Steelers game in December - and after TAILGATING - we walked to the Casino to warm up before the game. It was a lot of fun and FILLED with Bills fans.

    2) Sorry, I stand by my statement. Between the Metro, Amtrak, tons of hotels, tons of parking all along the Metro and in the Central Business District, and the street grids - people have MULTIPLE ways to get to the stadium.

    3) And your last point about Canadians -  BS.  Between stopping at the bridge for customs and driving south to the stadium - it takes WAY more than 10 minutes.  Nice try.  You build this stadium so its easier for your stakeholders to get to the stadium. You build this new stadium closer to amenities already established downtown.

    4) I love tailgating... but I'm also not a juvenile and will find alternative ways to party before/after the game if the stadium is downtown.

I know we are loyal bunch and love our tailgating - but in order for us to sustain the BUFFALO Bills - we need to keep up with Jones - and invest in our city core - not OP.

  12. Team is not going anywhere.

    • It may or may not move from its current location
      • Everyone has an opinion about location
    • Everyone has an opinion about tailgating
    • The Pegula's would not have bought the team without a plan.
    • Yes, this will be a public/private initiative.
      • The State should look no further to the HUGE cash cow in our backyard - the New York Power Authority. T
        • They are making a TON of money and should contribute.

And here is my opinion - you don't spend ANY additional money in Orchard Park.  If you want to play in the big leagues you have to pay.

Build an all new state of the art Stadium/Convention Center downtown near Canalside.

I don't buy the BS about downtown not having the infrastructure to support a stadium - the city was once 4 times in size and population

The Titans are a hard team not to root for. Love what Henry is doing there. It's always fun to see a love fest toward one team (Ravens)  by announcers get crapped on. There is that one thing.....

After the Music City Mistake, it's hard to want a Superbowl title for any Tennessee fan. Am I holding a grudge too long?

Maybe if a Nashville newspaper issues a public apology to the city of Buffalo for the huge gift that was ill-received....haha!

    Nope. Can’t do it it.

    Re-posting from another thread:

I was actually going to create a thread seeking ideas for how to improve our home-field advantage. I think that could be a productive discussion, and hopefully it could catch some attention.

Long-term, obviously it would be great to build a stadium that amplifies the Bills Mafia noise. It should also have a retractable roof, as the weather provides an advantage over few opponents.

The Terrible Towels and those classic songs are a big deal in terms of intimidation. The 12th Man ceremony in Seattle is big. The tomahawk chop and chant in Kansas City is big. The "J-E-T-S" chant is actually extremely loud and intimidating. The Bills don't have anything quite like these -- the Shout song doesn't scare people.

Coaching-wise, something also needs to be done to prepare the players for playing at home. They need to come with that same intensity they show on the road; in fact, more so.

I'm thinking the train horn also needs to go and needs to be replaced with something more intense.

Bills brass should look at any and all ideas to tweak and improve the game-day atmosphere to maximize our home-field advantage.

Beane and McDermott could make a real long-term impact for years to come even after they're gone if they are able to implement new home-field traditions.

Great post.  You're right - there were some moments throughout the Bills/Steelers game where intimidation came into play... we need a good combination of intimidation and fun to accompany the game.

Won't lie - I left envious of their stadium (and its not even that new) - their passionate fan base (we are passionate, too... but a bit nuts).... and their city.

Another team/city that weaves their NFL colors (purple) and crest is Baltimore - they've done a great job with lighting up their buildings in purple coupled, raven/baltimore crests everywhere.

  15. Went to the game this past weekend in Pittsburgh. Had an amazing time.

Unlike Pat fans - I found the good people of Pittsburgh to be so hospitable and friendly - even in the stadium.

This was also my first time to Pittsburgh - beautiful city. Really wish our “leaders”

in WNY would get out of our way for progress and development.  We have so much potential - just poor corrupt leadership on both sides of the isle. (No, lets not go any further into politics)

Anyhow - the in game experience was pretty cool. From the terrible towels, any time the ref announced some random number was an eligible receiver, and various hype videos - the crowd went absolutely crazy.  It was a lot of fun.

I will also add - I absolutely want a downtown stadium - I’ve been to games in Seattle, Baltimore, Tennessee, and now Pittsburgh. I love being able to walk (or just on the “T” as they call it in Pittsburgh) to a game.  I love how integrated the stadiums are into the urban fabric - and Seattle does it BEST.

With that said - I was always a fan of the Bills building a retractable roof - but those stadiums become so dated - so quickly - and now I’m officially in the outdoor stadium camp. Just downtown! We will make tailgating work sprinkled in with local bars and restaurants.

What would you like to see different or enhanced at our home games?

    Go Bills!
