  1. That is a brutal end-of-season schedule for the Eagles.
  2. When SI starts writing articles about John Tavares and the Bandits instead of Drury or Losman, hopefully they'll leave that part out......
  3. Drury The guy is total pro. I can't imagine where his legend goes (especially among WNYers) if he brings a Cup to Buffalo...
  4. Nothing like a Benefiber & rum on a warm summers day....
  5. My first was Huey Lewis and the News, circa 1987 at the Aud. I was 8 years old and I went with my parents and older sister. I remember really enjoying it, and the best part was that we didn't get home until around midnight, and my mom didn't make me go to school the next day! My favorite...Too many to count that were all great times...But I'll go with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers / Black Crowes show at Darien Lake a few summers ago- it was a sunny, 80-degree July day, both bands played their asses off, and we had a crew of about 30 friends there. Good times...
  6. Rome: Zach Johnson wins the Masters? REALLY??? Major champions like Tiger and Phil and Retief crumbled at the feet of a Nationwide Tour vet named Zach Johnson? I'm pretty sure that golf is a lot easier than everyone thinks, and if I keep practicing as much as I have been, I see no reason why Zach Johnson won't be sliding that green jacket over my shoulders next April. Sincerely, Mats Sundin
  7. Your alma mater was counting on Mike Gandy to represent on the Bills...Since he's gone now and the Bills have no ND players, I won't crack wise about your school's weak parties or Mike Gandy sipping a Bartles & James in the corner! Nobody from my institution of higher learning either, so I will go with Kevin Everett...Miami boy, injured, backup player...All the ingredients to be a raging party animal.
  8. Who on the Bills would you say throws them back early and often?
  9. East Sabres over Isles in 5 Tampa over Devils in 7 NYR over Atlanta in 6 Ottawa over Pitt in 6 West Det over Calgary in 7 Anaheim over Wild in 5 Vancouver over Dallas in 6 San Jose over Nashville in 6 East Semi's Buffalo over Tampa in 5 Ottawa over NYR in 6 West Semi's Det over SJ in 6 Anaheim over Van in 7 East Finals Buffalo over Ottawa in 6- maybe Pommer shorthanded in OT so their fans can enjoy that again West Finals Anaheim over Det in 6 Stanley Cup Finals Buffalo over Anaheim in 5- We've known this since mid-October, right?
  10. Are you serious? Are you aware of Thurmal's history with alcohol? In either case, I'm not sure what that has to do with their inclusion in the Pro Football HoF....good thread, though....
  11. The Sharks would certainly have earned the Cup if that's the case. Assuming the favorites all win (probably won't happen but let's pretend for a minute) then look at SJ's road to the Cup (Sharks would open on the road in each series): Rd 1 Nashville Rd 2 Detroit Rd 3 Anaheim Finals Buffalo 16 wins against the three best in the West and the best in the East...It would be hard to say that they didn't earn it....
  12. You have to read these press releases carefully. You missed the fine print at the bottom: Hot Chicks Only
  13. Montreal is dangerous because, among the teams in the East, only the Canadiens and Atlanta truly appear comfortable skating with the Sabres. If Huet is back, they shouldn't be overlooked...Buffalo went to the '98 ECF and the '99 SCF with not much more than a great goalie and a hot power play....
  14. I highly recommend the pillows in Klan Hood White to go with that sofa... That's crazy...I can't believe someone physically typed that in there to appear on the tag...Wasn't there a pharmacy that was printing descriptions of the patients on the bottles of pills??? One lady was 'Crazy B word' and things like that?
  15. Nate never said anything bad about Buffalo or the Bills. I was merely using Clements as an example because: 1) He has been here for the entire duration of the franchise's recent trend of selling hope for the next season, which never seems to pan out 2) He jumped to the 49ers, a team considered to be a bottom-feeder at the moment. "He just took the money and doesn't care if he wins" was the way Bills fans washed their hands of him. Well, how do you think the Bills are perceived around the league? A young, improving team, looking to add the final pieces to make that playoff push...Hasn't Nate read this book before??? My point is, I agree with you, the Bills looked okay at times last year....But in a larger scope, they are one of the five worst teams in the NFL for the past 6 or 7 seasons- buried with the likes of Detroit and Arizona and Cleveland. Why would WGR spend time on that crap, when they can flip the page and talk about one of the most entertaining, successful, and likable teams in the city's sports history?
  16. They have been young up & coming since 2000. How many times do you think Nate Clements heard that they were 'on the cusp' in his six years here? People criticized him for going to a loser like the 49ers....Look at the Bills!!! This is not a winning franchise at the moment.
  17. He is a seedy scumbag, no doubt...But he is not the epitome of a cultural downfall... He is a man who managed to time an idea perfectly with an era. We live in a celebrity-obsessed culture, which is not Joe Francis' fault. There are rich girls like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Jessica Simpson who are famous for NOTHING other than getting photographed drunk, at parties, at bars, and getting out of sportscars flashing their clam. Impressionable female teens and 20-somethings, on Spring Break with a buzz and a desire to get crazy, sign a waver saying they agree to be videotaped popping the hood or playing sticky finger with another chick. It's their 15 minutes and they relish the opportunity to be Paris just once. Hell, Las Vegas shows commercials practically encouraging this, with the "What happens here stays here" tag line. Millions upon millions of these DVD's sold, which is also not Joe Francis' fault. If the first one sold 17 copies, there would never have been a volume 2, much less a volume 52. He had a pretty shady idea which happened to coincide with the popularity of the party girl scene and the boom of the DVD industry. And now he's filthy rich, and using his fame to hang at the cool places and bang the hot girls...Pretty much what every seedy rich guy has been doing since the dawn of time...
  18. This argument, while fundamentally true, is far from reasonable. They are a radio station...A business...They play to the listeners and look only for ratings. The Buffalo Sabres won 50 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time ever. It is possible that the '06-'07 squad is the franchise's best ever, and they are the legit favorite to win the Stanley Cup. WGR happens to provide the radio broadcast for their games. Why shouldn't they talk about them? The interest is there...This team is the talk of the town and a source of pride for all WNYers everywhere. You're criticizing a station for discussing them TOO MUCH, or being OVERLY POSITIVE about them??? I guarantee if you called today and talked about the Bills needs of a LB vs. a RB, they would engage your discussion. It's just that none of the callers want to talk about that. The Bills have been one of the worst teams in the NFL for seven years. They are the Lions, the Cardinals, the Texans. Look it up, the records don't lie. And WGR does not have the broadcast rights to Bills games. What are they supposed to do- have Schopp and the Bulldog discuss who the Bills are going to draft for the next 3 weeks? Talk about their weight training program??? This is a Bills town through and through...If they are ever a playoff-caliber squad again, Bills fever will take over. As it is now, they dominate WGR and the Buffalo News from mid-July until January. What's the beef with the ONE sports radio show in town discussing the ONE active team in town, who has a real shot to bring the city it's first major sports crown???
  19. Agreed- I can't imagine Raycroft outplaying Miller four times in seven games.
  20. I'm not a huge Zakaria fan, but this was an excellent article which sheds some light on the Sunni-Shiite rift and what it means for al-Qaeda. Instead of plagerizing the article in an attempt to appear smart, I will settle for the fact that I actually remember an article I read two months ago in a magazine, and was smart enough to find it on the Web. That's good enough for me... http://www.fareedzakaria.com/articles/newsweek/020507.html
  21. Very surprising! I suppose that was the state of the league in 1998 though...Every team was looking for the big, punishing, power forwards who could fight through the interference and hooking to get to the net. I'm sure fighting was more of a consideration back then compared to now as well...But obviously, the Sabres liked something about Peters' game. You don't draft a guy 34th overall because you envision him playing 3 minutes a game and getting in a rumble...
  22. Like the Penguins? Fleury taken #1 overall in '03, Malkin taken #2 overall in '04, Crosby taken #1 overall in '05, and Stall taken #2 overall in '06. That was easy. I was in Florida a few weeks ago and watched the Sabres-Panthers game on Fox Sports Florida...Between periods they listed the all time best franchise winning percentages in NHL history. The Canadiens were #1, winning something like 61% of their games, but the Sabres were #4 or #5, with an all-time franchise winning percentage of around 57%. Pretty sweet...There were only a few seasons when they were really bad...I think the guy said that the Sabres have been above .500 in 29 of their 37 seasons... YEs, that's correct. I think they still do have a few scouts doing the actual on-the-road work, but the staff size has definitely been reduced. Darcy felt like they were getting a lot more value out of the video.
