  1. something tells me the Yankees arent concerned about the "average fan", my guess is they want to attract those with deeper pockets that can afford to spend money time and time again...ie, corporate sponsors...sad as that may sound to you and I, the Yankees are a business and their only goal is to maximize profits, its not even about winning world series, its about profit....I am a life long, die hard yankee fan, by the way.

    pooj,

i think the yanks believe the average fan for them is the person who watches the games at home and buys their hats, jerseys, ect. the above average fan is the person who does all the above and goes to games. the high end fan is the person who could care less about them winning or losing, wears a suit to the game, and pays hundreds of thousands per year to go to the stadium for the games and barely watches the team on the field.

  2. Third, I wonder about the outright opulence when millions of people in this country are struggling. It's the same thing with the Yankees, with their new park and the free-agent signings. The attitude almost seems to be like a middle finger pointed straight at the middle class...or what's left of it. I understand that these stadiums were planned, and started construction, prior to the current economic crisis. But, it seems awfully gauche to me.

buckeye, i dont understand why anyone would look at any sports teams like this. it sounds like you are a yankee hating sox fan or something(i'm kidding). the yankees can print their own money if they choose. george steinbrenner made them that way. sucessful. the yanks sell more merchandise than just about any other pro sports team in the WORLD. off of those sales alone, they could afford to spend the same money on players as they do now.

the economy is still good for them, so why should they not spend the money?

if the company you work for started to dominate it's industry today, and all other companies in the same industry could not keep up with yours due to a better product and clients with deep pockets, would you feel bad? would you feel worse if your company that sits on top of the mountain now decided to give you a huge raise because they can?

i dont hate on the yanks, any sports team or company for using capitalism leagally to get ahead.

  3. just watching the news in orchard park, and they asked moron...er jauron about the extension and he stated " come on, you know the answer to that question, i do not discuss contracts......."

russ brandon was then asked the same question with the reporter quoting adam schefter, and brandon looked disgusted and said "no comment"

  4. Barkley speaks

We all know Charles Barkley loves to hear himself but he makes some good points. He was part of the search committee for a new basketball coach. Barkley presented 3 qualified black coaches with NCAA tourney experience. Instead they hired a less experienced white coach...after they removed Barkley from the committee. Auburn basketball has floundered ever since.

    PTR

so just to make sure i understand this,

barkley presents 3 qualified black coaches and no white, mexican, ect, and he is calling the school racist.

shouldn't he have presented the best options for the job rather than simply qualified black coaches?

looks like the pot is calling the kettle black on this one.(no pun intended)

charles barkley is intelligent, but most times comes off as a blowhard gambling addict.

  5. Favre's RB was Dorsey Levens, a nice player but certainly not a HoF player. He also had an old Andre Rison and Antonio Freeman. Mark Chmura wasn't on the Super Bowl team. The point was yes, those were nice players but he wasn't on a stacked team. He made them better, not vice versa. Hell, this year Favre has Laveraneus Coles, Jerricho Cotchery and Thomas Jones. That's not setting the world ablaze with talent.

Re: Elway, you named one RB. I'll give you two more. Sammy Winder and Bobby Humphrey. He took Sammy Winder to 3 Super Bowls. At no point will you see his bust in Canton.

3 of Marino's RBs were Sammie Smith, Terry Kirby, and Keith Byars. Not a world beater among them yet Danny boy managaed to show you he was a pretty decent QB.

well, as far as favre is concerned, in 96 when he won the superbowl, the defense had a bigger impact than the offense... the pack's d had 26 int's and 31 fumbles recovered that year and held opponents to 13.1 points per game. so when the offense made mistakes(which we all know favre is known for) the defese picked up the slack to get wins.

elway had one of if not the best o-line in the game for his bowl wins, a should have been hof runningback, and good/great recievers.

marino also had a great o-line that gave him tons of time to throw, and thats what he did, which is why he had the career passing yards record until favre broke it. so to ask for names of miami's runningbacks shouldnt apply as the were not a run first team...... actually the were not run first, second, or third type of team

    so in conclusion........

the qb is only as good as the team around him

to say anything else is crazy

  6. Did J.P. ever lead a successful 2 minute drill?

um, yeah he has, on more than one occasion.

i remember a td to price with no time left, and possibly a pass to parrish on the sidelines to set up a game winner.

EDIT: actually jp did it in back to back weeks where the bills won both games in the final 2 minutes:

    2006 season

vs houston texans- td to price

    followed by

jacksonville jags- pass to parrish on sideline to set up lindell game winner

re: nonforfeiture clauses......you may already have it on your current policy under another name

A Nonforfeiture Benefit must be offered with "Long Term Care Insurance" policies. The nonforfeiture benefit is designed to ensure that if you lapse your policy (i.e., stop paying premiums) after a specified number of years, you retain some benefits from the policy. There are currently two common types of nonforfeiture benefits being offered with certain insurance policies covering long term care services. These are referred to as a "Reduced Paid-Up Benefit" and a "Shortened Benefit Period." A brief description of these benefits follow:

Reduced Paid-Up Benefit: If you purchase a reduced paid-up benefit, it will provide that if you lapse your policy after a specified number of years, the policy will continue with reduced daily benefit amounts (some insurers apply this nonforfeiture benefit only to nursing home benefits).

Shortened Benefit Period: If you purchase a shortened benefit period, it will provide that if you lapse your policy after a specified number of years, the policy will continue to cover the same benefits (amounts and frequency in effect at the time of lapse) that would have been covered under your policy until the nonforfeiture benefit amount is exhausted.

A similar nonforfeiture benefit that was offered in the past was known as an "Extended Term Benefit".

In other words, the "Reduced Paid-Up Benefit" provides reduced benefits for the original term of the policy, and the "Shortened Benefit Period" provides full benefits for a reduced period of time.

NOTE: ALL OF THE OPTIONAL BENEFITS NOTED ABOVE INCREASE THE COST OF THE BASIC POLICY.

  8. let's first do some math,

    $98.00 x 12= $1176 per year.

lets take that $1176 per year and give it 40 years= $47040.00...... thats some coin without interest(who knows what rates will be).

but lets say after 10 years you are seriously injured or have a stroke......$1176 x 10yrs= $11760- not even enough to add wheelchair access to your home let alone pay for extended medical costs.

with similar math, compare a $300.00 per day LTC benefit and lets say you collect for 1year- $300.00 x 365=$109500.00. thats alot more in 1 year than you could probably make investing the money over 40 years! and all TAX FREE!

the long term care is important in a few different ways.

it prevents the state of ny from seizing your assets, and pays most if not all the costs of supervised medical care in your home or a nursing home among other things.

i dont know if you are married, have children, ect, but leaving a legacy and not burdoning your family is more important than getting crappy returns on investments.

please before you make a decision read up on the benefits of LTC from the NYS insurance dept website:

no one can tell you what to do with your money, all we(insurance agents & brokers) can & should do is make sure you have the proper information to make an educated decision on your future for the best possible outcome.

  9. I think cutting a player or two after a loss like this might wake these bums up.

    My candidates for being cut

    Kelsay

    Dockery

    Royal

    Losman

Then make Jackson the starter and Lynch the backup.

yeah, cutting losman, a guy that did not have a hand in the 3 game losing streak sends the right message. cut someone on the o-line...... fowler AND preston? fowler is gone after this year anyway, and duke is just as big a waste. now that would shake up the team and send a message. and signing almost any center available would get the bills about the level of play we've seen all year, garbage.
