1. On one of his live albums, Harry Chapin introduces a song by saying he wrote it while he was staying in Watertown, NY. When the audience politely applauds, he responds "That's more than it deserves. I spent a week there one afternoon." But he came away with one of his best songs, "Mr. Tanner."

That would be a good name for one of the cats. But not the one in the middle.

I call the one in the middle "The Incredible Mr. Limpet"

  2. They serve a purpose - I can bring them into the bathroom with me. Can't do that with my computer.

I like them for the schedules and the quick reads on the other teams. I usually pick up one which stays on the shelf under the coffee table for reference during the season.

True. Plus, think of the savings on toilet paper. Read, wipe then flush! :D

  3. I don't understand the fascination with these "Jean Dixon" rags? They don't know any more than you or I do. All it does every year is piss everyone off! I have a great idea....let's all wait for the season to start. What kills me is that these mags are never held accountable for there horrible accuracy?

What do you suggest should happen to the prognosticators upon making faulty predictions? Lop off their heads?

  4. Funny you brought that up Fez.

I remember being furious that he didn't play in that game. A month or so later, I got what had to have been the same flu as Bruce. It hit me at work. I was frozen walking from my car to my house and woke up shivering and sweating with sore muscles, in the fetal position.

This, along with other common flu symptoms, lasted for the better part of a week.

There is NO WAY he could have played!

Did anybody else here catch that particular flu?

PS: You are right, I have been taking a flu shot ever since.

    358085

I didn't catch THAT particular one. I caught another.

  5. WM is still an relative unknown and will drop (unless you are picking with all buffalo fans).

If you want him, and have a high pick, trade down - you'll be sure to nab him out of the top 10.

    357289

I am the only BB fan. I have to admit, however, that the other 9 GM's are really pretty savvy. I'm certain WM is on the radar screen early. How early? We shall see.

  6. I had some rules that I have stuck by and they've done well for me. Not drafting Bills players is one of them, although I would take a couple. But it was always done as best available player type of deal at the time. I took Lee Evans as my last WR last year. It was a good move considering there was nobody left when I grabbed him in the 13th round. The year before, I had Travis Henry as my 3rd RB.

My other rule is to not invest too early on rookies.

    357258

Nice. You look like a genius with the Evans pick. BTW, I'd draft LE before EM this year. You?

  7. This brings up a question for me.  Do you guys like to draft Bills on to your fantasy team?  Personally I hate it because when they perform poorly it's like a double dagger into the heart.  I try to avoid drafting Bills when putting together my fantasy team.  Of course since Kelly & Co. it hasn't been much of a problem to not draft Bills offensive players onto a fantasy team.  However, with this new generation of Bills offensive players it could be hard for me to turn down drafting some in the future.

    357210

Good question! I have this discussion with league members every year. Typically, I shy away from it for the myriad of reasons you mentioned. However, the lure of WM is too strong to pass up. Every draft there is that one or two players you MUST have, right? Well, WM seems to be that guy. I try to disuade myself from that, but picking 2nd, I keep coming back to him. Look, If I were selecting 1st, LT would be my choice. 2nd overall? You could clearly argue others, but I don't know. I'm not sure others in my league are as "in tune" with what might be developing in Buffalo, that is why I'd like to trade out, still get my guy and then come around again with an earlier 2nd. I know I'm rambling, but does this make sense?

  8. when's your draft? things may change, but I would say Alexander. I'd say the back with the most promise is Julius Jones. I picked him up last year ON DRAFT DAY as my 4th RB (12 team league). I kept ahold of him even though he was injured. I knew that Parcels would make him a workhorse and I was right. I kept looking at his rushing attempts. Dude toted the rock more than any other back in the league down the stretch.

    356932

8/22 and 8/29 we draft. Nine rounds each night. We've done this the last few years. We like the idea of "regrouping" and coming back fresh the following week. Interesting to note, as you mention Jones, my thought would be to trade my #2 and #19 for the rights to someone's #7 and #14. This way I would feel confident procuring both Mcgahee and Jones. I agree with you, Jones should be studly. I just see "others" leaving the board earlier than him. The frosting on the cake is that my 3rd rounder comes around real quick. #22 overall. What a wonderful thing fantasy football!!! And thank you for your input!! Good luck to you!! ;)

  9. yeah so does Feeley, Rosenfels, Fiedler, and Berlin

    356923

For the sake of accuracy, it's Ferrotte and not Fiedler. Our good friend Fiedler now with the Jets. The irony here, for my money anyway, says that Fiedler just might be my choice of QB from the whole lot. GO DOLPHINS!! What an inept bunch of losers!! HAHAHAHA!! ;)

  10. Interesting on Mcgahee. In a 10 team league, I'm picking 2nd. I like picking a RB with my 1st selection, typically. Assuming Tomlinson goes 1st overall, which back warrants the 2nd overall? Is Deuce, Alexander, Lewis, Portis, Holmes, James any better a selection 2nd overall than WM? I'm actually thinking of trading down several spots (6 or 7) with the oppurtunity to select my back and then pick earlier in the 2nd round with the ensueing trade. Thoughts?

  11. It's a shame he listed Taylor Quiet in those line combinations.

As for the draft lottery, I saw a proposal a few weeks back that said each team would get 4 balls.  If they made the playoffs in the last 4 seasons, one ball would be taken away.  Another would be taken away for having the #1 overall pick in the past four years.  There were other conditions, but I forget.  I'll try to dig up the link.  Anyway, in this system, the Rangers would've been one of a few teams with the best shot at the #1 pick (it'll be rigged to get Crosby in NY).  The sabres would've had 3 balls.

    355272

I too, love the Sabres. But this group doesn't have ANY balls. :(

  12. perception:  the bills lost a "stud" starting LT and picked up nobody to replace him; thus the OL will suck.

reality:  the bills did not re-sign a "good" LT who was grossly overpaid in free agency, and have a fantastic OL coach working with players already on the roster to find a replacement.  the bills have CHOSEN to pass on several "name" LTs available through trade or free agency, suggesting that they are satisfied with the players they have.

truth:  nobody knows how the new LT will perform, but the rest of the OL looks damn solid.

perception:  the bills lost a "stud" DT who was the anchor of the defense and signed nobody to replace him; thus the defense will suck.

reality:  the bills did not re-sign a productive but aging player who wanted to get his big payday.  they have several DTs on the roster who have been developing and could be ready to slide into williams' role.

truth:  buffalo loses 1 starter on a defense that was excellent.  odds are that edwards and anderson fill in adequately for a player who was on the field roughly 2/3 of the time and the buffalo defense does not drop off.

    BINGO!!!

  13. I'm worried about Bennie Anderson panning out for us. Bmore Raven fans called him the "revolving door".

    355001

Whether or not that's the case, he was not brought in to pass protect. He's a road grader by all accounts and will be used as such. The offensive scheming will work around, or try to anyway, any defficiencies the left side may have in protection. I'm fairly confident that with poised play by JP (ie...not running into trouble) this will be accomplished.

  14. Folks, think back to when Flutie replaced RJ, and the offensive line went from porous to fairly good.  My point is that O-line play depends in large part on the QB behind them.  This line will look better, both in pass and run blocking, with a more mobile QB and a better passing game.  Let us just hope that JP can provide both.

    354979

I absolutely agree. Our line will "appear" to be better. Especially in the pass blocking dept. JP's mobility and the play calling will give the appearance of better line play. Run blocking? Full steam ahead. WM will post 1600 yds this season. I really believe that.

  15. There's no way that he will be convicted. The man is mentaly ill and needs that type of help. Do I belive that he did something with kids...yeah, I do. Would I send mine or any other kid to his house for a sleep over, hell no! My take is this guy is about 13 years old (in his head) and he doesn't think that he has done anything wrong. I'm shocked that he hasn't killed himself yet.

Wait for the verdict. He might. WEE HEE!!

  16. How does a guy get started doing these crazy stunts? You wake up one day and say to yourself, I'm going to pull an train with my ears ! Get a clamp and some bolts !

How? Ancient Chinese secret, huh? :D Sorry, I used to love that commercial. Wasn't it for a laundry detergent?
