1. Fix the O-line and watch the magic begin!!  JP will look like Brett Favre.  Willis will look like Thruman.  FIX THE O-LINE!!!!

The Chiefs OL is pretty good, don't you think? Where was their magic? Fixing our OL would be a good start. We've got other issues.

  2. All I was saying is it was worth a look.  There are many stupid posts here (like the ________ for DC) I hardly see why this one is that laughable.  I think its someone we should/could look at.  That's all.  I remember a few years back that many people thought we should draft this kid.  Now he's got a few seasons under his belt, he's looked okay and he could compete with JP. I would like for the Bills to get rid of Holcomb, he is a waste of a roster spot, he should never be considered our starter.

I was just throwing out an idea.  I apologize for wasting your precious time.

A couple of things. One, I agree with you whole-heartedly about bringing in Schaub. I think this kid can play. I said so in an earlier thread. Two, don't waste your time apologizing to the rude jacka$$es that take exception to the mere thought of someone else other than JP QBing this team. jeezus krist, people.

It's a different opinion than yours. Believe it or not, it's welcomed here. Isn't it?

  3. I don't want to "wait and see" what we have in JP. Sorry JP supporters, I just don't.

I'd like to give ourselves a better chance to win with someone who you already know what you'll get. Understanding not one of the following candidates is perfect, they would give a us a better chance. That could be Culpepper, Collins or Volek. I also like Matt Schaub. Atlanta's best QB.

  4. It's important to remember a new regime has no loyalty to the previous regime's players and are not subject to their expectations, meaning TD or MM care about the fact that JP was a first-round pick (they shouldn't, but that's a different story).  ML and DJ will evaluate JP objectively, ignoring where he was drafted and judge him on how he looks now.  So I could easily see them deciding JP does not have what it takes.  And then a QB comes into play again.

FFS, hypothetically - if Marv looks at JP and sees one of TD's mistakes, would you be surprised if he goes after a QB?  Of course we need other positions, too, but that doesn't mean we don't need a QB as well.

    Agree completely.

  5. The idea of drafting either Young or Cutler seems bizarre to me if you plan to win in 06 or even in 07.

    587740

Throw JP's name into this mix as well. I know, I know. We don't know what we have in him yet. Exactly my point. Bring in someone more established. If winning now is the order, I don't feel JP is the answer.

  6. He needs to grow a beard.  Big Ben before his beard?  A pretty solid young qb.  After the beard, he leads his team to the Super Bowl and looks like an all-pro.  What about Jake the Plummer?  Sans beard, mistake prone underachiever.  After beard, he is a pro bowler and can only be stopped by another bearded foe.  Guys like Tom Brady and Dan Fouts also are products of the beard factor.  So if JP comes to can with a beard, I will be breathing alot easier.  Or I guess he could just work on his accuracy and his ability in the pocket.  <_<

Truth be told, he can't grow one.........a very ominous sign.

  7. And I totally agree with you that greatness doesnt reflect coaching skills, which we've seen numerous times throughout history.

However, I still believe that Ted Williams was a much better manager and coach than his record with 2 expansion teams indicate.  No coach can make a career .230 hitter a .300 hitter, but a good coach can teach a .230 hitter to be a .250 hitter.  The problem for Ted was he was given a team full of .230 hitters and was expected to turn them into champions.

Sorry I'm just a big advocate of Ted Williams, especially after reading his book about hitting.  I learned a lot and my batting average improved .78 from my final fall season of college ball to my final spring season.

I'm with you, brother. I'm not knocking the Splendid Splinter, I'm a big fan myself. Though I haven't read his book, I've often heard how others have benefitted from his teachings. You're proof of that. He done learned you somethin'....which is pretty cool. Must've been nice taking his "word" to the field of play and making it work for you. That's good stuff.

  8. Check out the piece NFL Network did on him yesterday if you have a chance.  There's no doubt in my mind he's a fine coach after seeing him work at the Sr. Bowl.  Still doubts about him as a DC, but not as a coach.

    585449

I will look for that. Hey, no doubting MS is a fiery competitor who was an all-time great. And, by the way, I wouldn't mind having that "fire" on our sidelines. Maybe with some seasoning......

  9.

Think about what you're proposing here, too.  We haven't seen much of a return on our investment in JP Losman (which was 2 first-day picks and a 5th rounder).  But, we've only really given him 8-9 games.  Not enough for most QBs to prove themselves.  This would be a seriously reactionary move that would only be good if we knew something the Rams didn't (JP is a pot-head and about to get busted, JP's injuries are far worse than anyone else knows).  We'd essentially be trading one inexperienced QB for another, and losing a first round pick in the process.

You have to let an investment like a first-round pick mature.  Losman has really only had one and a half seasons at a position where it takes up to 4 years to mature (and note that we'd likely have to wait just as long for Fitzpatrick to fully put it together).  Big Ben and Brady are huge exceptions.  A trade like this would mean chaos for OBD's public image -- a sign of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I would agree with you if the old regime were still in place. Since they're not, the new staff may not feel the same about JP. They've changed coaches which also means they're changing philosophies. I don't pretend to know their thinking here, but maybe, just maybe they're not enamored with the kid. We shall see. They won't necassarily wait for him to develope just because of his draft status if they're not sold on his game. If they're not, IF, then cut loose however the best way possible and get someone in here they do believe in and lets get busy winning some football games.

  10. I gotta defend Teddy Ballgame here.  He was a great player, an extremely intelligent baseball guy, and a decent manager on teams with little talent.  If you've read any of his books you would be amazed at the method to his madness and just how well he knew the game of baseball and the art of hitting.  Great talent, great mind, great guy...crazy kids

    585390

While I agree with much of what you have stated, I was just trying to imply that "greatness" on the field doesn't necassarily translate to the coaching.

  11. I read a lot about KH not having the ability to take Bflo to the playoffs.  Well, neither did Trent Dilfer when he was in Baltimore.

I read alot about how bad the OL is.  Don't get me wrong, there is room for A LOT of improvement.  But it kills me how people want to blame JPs performance on the OL.  Despite taking the same number of attempts as KH (two fewer, actually), JP -- the mobile QB with "escapability" and a super-quick release -- took 50% more sacks than the rather immobile KH.  Same offensive scheme.  Same guys running it.  Hmm...

Yes, the OL can make a QB look better.  But a QB can also make an OL look better too.  And more than just in pass protection.  Opponents had no fear of JP Losman beating them, which led to them stacking the line to stop the run.  Again, the QB's performance didn't exactly help the line much.

Just an observation. thought, and opine...

    584902

Good post. We've all heard the Favre comparisons. When I think Losman, I think David Carr. Talent, but no QB instinct. Hell, he has that bad Carr hairdo going too. Not that that matters.....

  12. If this is indeed true, I am going to post again my idea for DC.

Mike Singletary for the job. He is not only one of the best LBs of all time, but one of the best players in the entire NFL ever! PERIOD.

I say forget Bates and bring in Singletary!

    585240

Seems to be an important ingredient......just ask Bart Starr, Ted Williams

    and Isaiah Thomas...
