Brandon Beane, speaking at his post draft presser just now, said "The cap is the cap. There is not a receiver trade coming". He said it point blank. So...I think at this point a free agency addition is far more likely.

Yeah, it's not encouraging. I don't know who can be added. I'm sure they'll bring in a veteran. Someone will shake loose after the draft.

    Nope.

And apparently that's just how Beane likes it. Really disappointing. He came right out and admitted that "other needs" took precedence.

Well, he was lying when he said he wanted to add explosive wide receivers to the room that could create separation. Maybe he's lying now.

I agree about the "really disappointing."

Great response. Thank you for this.

Yeah, I'll admit: I'd feel a lot better about things if the Bills added just one more legitimate dude to the receiving corps, even via free agency.

They're one Samuel injury or one slow Coleman developmental Summer away from Mack Hollins or Justin Shorter being counted on for serious offensive snaps, and that is not acceptable to me.

I'm not even sure who at this point in the offseason would be a viable addition to that room -- OBJ? Chark? MVS? -- but I have my fingers crossed for SOMEBODY.

I've been told it's impossible, I guess because of the cap, but I am still going to hold out hope there is a way to bring in Aiyuk. He's exactly what we need.

I've had a low key/under the radar vibe since before the draft that something is in the works veteran receiver wise.... we'll see if my gut is right. No inside source BS....just a feeling I've had.

That's either true, or Beane has unrealistic expectations for his WR room as currently constructed, or this is a punt year in the middle of Josh Allen's prime.

Or maybe he thinks Coleman and Samuel can just step in and replace Diggs/Davis?

I was convinced he'd double dip wrs in the first 4 rounds.

That would fall under "incorrect evaluation of where his WR room is" in my view.

I think they had an unrealistic expectation of Davis after the notorious 13 second game.

I hope they aren't making the same mistake and thinking Shakir is the new Diggs. He does appear to be ascending, but that's a lot to ask.

Taken separately, I haven't hated any of the picks apart from Coleman, and my concern about Coleman is partly because I fear he has to be a big slot to succeed.

Maybe that's wrong. I sure hope he will be a solid boundary receiver X. If he's D Hopkins, it's a spectacular hit, but a lot of receivers with his profile bust or end up having to play in the slot, because they can't separate.

I thought that Beane said they wanted explosive receivers who separate, and so I find it amusing that when folks are exasperated at the pick, they are treated as if all they did was look at the forty time. The outrage is based on expectations Beane set up, not only in his comments, but by not investing in WR in prior drafts, then letting Davis walk (no loss, I think), and on top of that, trading Diggs and taking on a massive cap hit.

Anyway, good luck to him. Beane was either lying, delusional, or has an ace in the hole we don't know about. A trade or post 6/1 FA signing could explain it, and I hope it does.

We have traded back. Beane thinks this is a weak day 3. He is telling us that by his actions. He is right. But if he thought that was he not trying to get up into the 4th another time or two? Empty those other picks out..... what use are they if you think the rounds 5 through 7 talent sucks?

Probably no one wanted those picks. Once you got to the fifth, some teams looked at who was left and were then willing to deal.

We won 6 in a row with Diggs doing nothing and Davis having multiple games of 0-0 0yds. But now we're in a down year because we didnt draft a second WR in the 5th round.

The time to draft the second WR was earlier in the draft. We need to bring in a veteran. If you don't think they need to add another weapon to the WR room, you're reading the talent differently than I.

hey Doc. What I m reading is this current season may be a wash because we didn't pick an impact right away WR? Someone to stretch the field type guy.

The lack of that one aspect is going to hobble our offense and make them fall from post season consideration?

I don't want to buy that. It reads way too pessimistic a take for me to make at this juncture. *shrugs*

I don't think they fall from post-season consideration. I expect them to win the division. I was hoping for more splash impact players.

They are following their formula. High character, sensible picks. It was a good year for WR. I wanted a different approach.

Still going to hope, but the fellas speculating this is the first part of a two-year reset make sense to me.
