  1. You do that. I'm going to call it the way I see it. And I be tracking down everyone who

bashed me for saying lets draft a WR or Corner. Time will tell

Get out of your egocentric bubble. I was acknowledging the clever neo-logism; it has nothing to do with you.

And if you are tracking, I've made numerous pejorative comments about taking a cb and have been promoting Mahomes in many threads, including this one, including several posts right above this one.

  2. I believe Mahomes is going to be featured on NFL Network's Path to the Draft tonight. If you want him, I think you have to take him at #10. Arizona may take him at #13. I'd be shocked if he made it to the second round. If he does, Cleveland either takes him or reaps a slew of picks. No way he makes it to #44.

Good post, and we are more on the same page that it might look initially. I love drafting QB's and know we need to draft one this year. I don't see any of them being worth the 10th pick, so reaching usually gets teams in trouble and I don't want to reach for something that we aren't in dire need of. I wouldn't hate one in the 2nd, even though I still prefer to go a different direction in the 2nd (seems a great round to grab a DB or WR).

At the end of the day it comes down to this: We are in a rare draft that is deep and rich of value going into it. We have a LOT of holes and only 3 picks in the first 4 rounds and only 6 total. Lets focus on taking advantage of the depth of this draft and try and get 3 starters in the first 3 rounds because next years draft wont be anywhere near as good as this one at all the positions we need help at.

Then Tyrod gets a chance to see what he can do and improve on under better coaching, system stability, healthy Sammy, revamped WR group and what should also be a much improved defense. If Taylor doesnt progress, next year we have a lot less holes to fill and we can go all in on a QB, even possibly make a big trade up if its available at a top prospect if need be. But if we draft a meh QB this year and wiff on it, we are in a much worse position over the next few years than if we just focus on our real holes to reduce the amount of players we need on this team to take the next step.

The presupposition in your reasoning is that this year's class of qbs is "meh." If you are wrong there, much of your reasoning falls apart. I do agree this appears to be a draft rich at many areas of need, so I am not dismissive of your argument. However, I am also dubious that we will be in a position to trade up to get a franchise qb next year. I suspect Cleveland, SF, and a good number of other teams will be likely better equipped to grab an available franchise qb. For that reason, I think you take the shot now if you think there is a fella with a good chance to develop into a top-tier qb. Of course, if you think they are all long-shots, your strategy is more sound.

  4. Like GunnerBill, I like Watson. I think he'll go a lot earlier than folks think. I also like Mahomes. He's a risk, but we can afford to sit him and let him learn with Taylor's nice, bridge qb contract. I don't think these are "meh" qbs, so I would take a shot at them, probably Trubisky as well. Filling a "hole" that is an immediate need is short-term thinking, imo. We should go after the franchise qb if we think one of these fellas has a legitimate chance to become one.

  5.

I've made my thoughts pretty clear on Darnold thus far but I don't really see much in Rosen or Allen either at this point. Falk, Rudolph might stand a chance at progressing but I really don't see much in the way of a surefire thing, especially in the underclassmen group.

If I like a QB in this class, I'm pulling the trigger. Simply because I'm not waiting 12 months on a bunch of What If? types next year. Obviously, how we feel about the current and future classes shapes the perspective we have on that.

You have probably said somewhere here, but I'm not up to reading through all the threads. Do you like a qb in this class?

  6. A QB at pick # 10??? That's pretty interesting, considering TT just took an enormous pay cut to stay with the Bills... Plus, if you look at the QB's out there in this years draft, not one of them is a Day 1 Starter, unless you're the Browns... We need to fill holes (CB-maybe 2, WR, TE, LB) Our best bet is to trade back the number 10 pick and get more picks. We only have 6 picks this year... we don't have a 4th rounder or a 7th rounder.. but picking a QB at #10 may be one of the most idiotic things this franchise has ever done. WE ARE IN WIN NOW MODE

If we are in a WIN NOW MODE as you so subtly put it, there is likely more disappointment. Bad franchises or good ones with aging franchise qbs are win now mode. Having just gotten TT on a nice, revised bridge qb contract, the intelligent thing to do would be to acquire the qb who needs a year or two of development. The point of a bridge qb is it gives you time to develop a franchise qb without throwing him to the wolves and ruining him before he has a chance to grow.

And we're not likely to WIN NOW, though we certainly will probably win enough that one is excluded from a chance at Darnold, who is probably the qb from the 2018 draft still apt to be coveted after another collegiate year and much more scrutiny. Further, teams with elite qbs are almost always relevant. Teams that defer finding one because they have to fill holes often spend decades in the wilderness. Indeed, if one looks at the relative lack of attention to qb by the Bills, it is possible that tactic is the most consistent ingredient in their "idiocy."

    Otherwise, fine post.

  7. HEY! The Chapain might make the most sense, if, you know, he's got some really good connections.

I don't know why this is such a big deal to some people. I've been on various management committees where the chairman goes with the flow, even if it's not their preference. There are times where the guy with the clout could veto a move, but values the input of others and gives it a shot. And, sometimes, the word comes down that this is how it's going to go.

This is a sound explication of how collaborative decisions are often reached. I also agree with wiskibreth's comment that the interview should not be taken as the elucidation of a decision hierarchy. Years of failure make people angry and they presume everything is keystone cops. I surmise more probable is that the Pegulas are intelligent, sincere people who are fundamentally decent, but naive and inexperienced as owners of professional sports franchises. There is a learning curve for everything. I think it will be okay and at minimum, without their intervention, we don't have teams to argue about.

Just for chuckles, I wish they would work out an NFL draft room skit where the Chaplain breaks the tie, but then we'd likely get more knee-slapping priest jokes and less subtle accusations that the Pegulas are stupid because they are religious and value people of faith, so maybe not.

  8. Any way you want to look at the Marrone saga no one can come away from it and say that Marrone was treated poorly. He wanted to leave, so he left. End of story. He was looking to leave and made overtures before his buy out clause expired. That in itself is questionable behavior. I have no ill will for him. He was far from being a prized coaching commodity. In this league pedestrian coaches are easy to replace.

He comes across as a world-class jerk. I'm glad he's gone.

  9.

Didn't sound like to me that he "couldn't", sounded more like he didn't want to, and I don't blame him. He owes the press nothing on how he runs his organization; who has power over what. There's nothing wrong with a consensus approach.

I've heard Pat Kirwan of Sirius XM Radio Movin the Chains tell his story several times of when Bill Cowher and Donahoe or even Colbert later were ever in disagreement on football matters, Rooney would tell them both point blank, "lock yourselves in a room and don't come out until you have a unified decision decision for me"

Seemed to have worked well then...

Well, either Pegula is a well-meaning, but hopeless idiot or your interpretation is true. I like the Pegulas and prefer to maintain a semblance of hope for the future of the Buffalo sports franchises, so I'm going with your version until definitively proven otherwise.

  10. McDermott today:

    @buffalobills

"My relationship with Doug Whaley has been seamless. Doug laid a nice foundation for me and has helped our team improve in free agency."

If you read that carefully -- and note what he didn't say -- he didn't explicitly shoot down LaConjecture, for instance -- it's absolutely clear there is simmering animosity. This is all part of the Pegula's carefully managed plan to move the team out of Buffalo. If you're clever, it's obvious.

  11. BBMB didn't have Jack,

Even so, mods and admin can only do so much,

Some of these guys tip toe through the tulips so well there is practically nothing you can do to stop them.

I'm not blaming the mods, Figster. The BBMB became overrun with irrational, brutal folks.

I get that this is part of the internet age, I suppose, but it would be great if more decorum could be maintained here.

  12. Not only are there alot of teams that need qbs now there are also a bunch that will be looking for their qb of the future to groom like pitt, n.o., nyg, and ari. If we want one of the top qbs the only safe way to get one is at 10

Yep. I was enamored with the idea of trading back and picking up a 2nd if possible because we have so few picks. I don't think you can do it, especially if you have identified a particular qb as the one. If you're okay with one of three, you might be able to trade back a bit, but even then I wouldn't chance it. At risk of repeating a point I've made several times, what is the point of signing Taylor to a bridge qb contract if you don't have the developmental qb on the roster? Chances the Bills end up with Darnold are slim folks. Take Mahomes at 10 and give him time to develop.

  13.

I had a conversation again with my friend that is a scout yesterday. He couldn't stop talking about Mahomes. Said he could be generational, can't pass on a player like that at QB.

Alright, I think you've convinced the folks who are open to being convinced. Now you're just ensuring we're all gonna be especially depressed when we take a cb.
