Keenum also has a history with Dennison if we keep has OC, as they worked together in Houston. That said I trade up to the top 2 and hope Rosen falls and "settle" for Darnold.
I hope Dennison and Castillo are gone after this year. I would love to land either Rosen or Darnold, but I don't see either the Browns or Giants trading out or not taking them.

I just heard on NFLN that shaking hands with him is like shaking hands with a set of keys or with a kangaroo.
So how big are those hands .... anyone know?
I've been a proponent of drafting Mayfield or Jackson -- I surmise Darnold and Rosen are out of reach. I think someone will reach on Allen early, too.
The small hands thing is a concern though, especially if you play in Western NY conditions.

I am ambivalent about Cousins, but he's definitely better than Dalton imo.

My point with Brees is that if the Bills braintrust believes Cousins is the next Brees, go all in.
CLE and NYG are taking QBs at 1 and 2. So, at best, you are getting the third best QB in the draft class. How many draft classes have 3 franchise QBs? Not many...last one I can think of off the top of my head is 2004 (Eli, Rivers and Ben). That was the year we took Losman. Nothing will set this franchise back more than giving up all those picks and ending up with JP Losman part 2.
EDIT: I mean...that list is ugly for the "third" franchise QB....
The next Drew Brees is Baker Mayfield.

We draft a QB.... and we move up to do so.
I think this is what will happen -- and what should happen. I'd like to have a shot at Rosen or Darnold, but I think we'll be aiming for third choice.
Mayfield, Jackson, Allen, Rudolph is my current order 3 - 6. I see more Brees than Manziel in Mayfield, despite the immaturity which I think he'll grow out of.

Webb is an emergency qb only. Over time, I think Peterman will end up being a better backup than Tyrod. (We don't have a starting qb, but we are forced to start one anyway.)
I have no idea which inadequate starter would truly give us a better chance next Sunday, so I'm just going to hope for the best with whoever the eight ball picks.

"Other than THAT, Mrs Lincoln, how did you like the play?"
I am concerned we will indeed see Dennison back next year. Remember 2010 when our D blew chunks and we were all "surely George Edwards won't be DC next year" then it was 2011 DC: George Edwards.
Blame goes much further than Tyrod or Rico. Parting with all serviceable wide receivers and failing to find adequate replacements. Parting with Gilleslee and failing to find adequate replacements. Counting on whoever they were counting on to run a servicable the OL - Castillo? Dawkins? Ducasse?
What bothers me is the concerns it raises about the level of talent scouting/player evaluation currently in the building. We need to draft a QB, but it needs to be the right QB. Do these guys have the talent evaluation chops to make that happen?I think we hired a lot of scouts after the draft. My impression was many of them are considered quality football minds. The litany of errors you dilineate, however, does give one pause. I am not at all sold on the acumen of this regime. My view is Dennison and Castillo should go. I don't see a young, potential franchise qb doing well here with them in place, but I'm by no means an expert. Just old and watched a lot of football over the years.

Not clear at all. Here's the thing: cancer is spoken of as though it's a single disease, like smallpox or lyme disease. But the underlying cause is dozens of different genetic mutations, and the outcome is influenced by accompanying expression (or lack thereof) of dozens of different genes. As pharmaceutical developers (note I do not say pharmaceutical companies, reason for this) brought forward different promising drug candidates to test on larger populations, they lernt this the hard way as promising candidate X Y and Z flamed out.
OTOH, being paralyzed in the age of polio vaccine has one primary cause: traumatic injury to one class of cells, motor neurons. And there have been huge advances already in how the early treatment is managed, how rehab is managed, using electrical impulses to cause movement even in the absence of sensation. So I think there will be great advances there.
http://time.com/54146/paralysis-electrical-pulses/That is interesting and a well-articulated, intelligent analysis. Thanks for sharing.

It's his first year. He's still developing. Christ ppl here think every player and rookie should b Lawrence Taylor ...
No...
Once we get a real qb, all this other stuff just goes away. Yes a real qb effect s the pass rush. You know why genius???
Because you are constantly playing with a lead, sometimes a huge lead.
Put Rodgers on our team and Lawson and Hughes are in double digits each in sacks
Well, Lawson as a double digit sack fella seems hyperbole, but the basic point is excellent. Real Qb instantly improves the D.

I disagree in that I'd rather not place my bet on a QB's accuracy improving.
I honestly have not scouted the QBs all that much - what do you see as the negatives for Rudolph?
I'm not sure we need the Browns or Giants to trade out. If we can find a way to trade up to SF's #3 overall pick (for which we do have the draft capital), then we are guaranteed one of Rosen, Darnold, or Mayfield.
Yes, I stated I was ambivalent. I mainly prefer Allen to Rudolph. I would like the other qbs listed better than both.
Rudolph is big, but his arm is just average. His decision making is not strong, imo. He benefits from a conference that generally does not play good defense and a wr corps with a number of future pros.

I would put the over/under at 4 or 4.5, and I’d take the over, especially if Darnold comes out.
Rosen
Darnold
Mayfield
Jackson
Allen
Rudolph
I think at least the first 5 will go in the top 32 for sure. With Rudolph it just depends how many go ahead of him and who comes out for the draft.
I agree with your surmise and also the ranking of the qbs so you must be right
16 minutes ago, JohnBonhamRocks said:I think that exact list from the OP goes in the 1st, but probably in this order: Rosen, Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Jackson, Rudolph.
I think Wentz's success coming from North Dakota State only helps Allen's stock and teams will not judge him based on his play, but his potential (which scares me a bit).
If measurables outrank performance, Allen could go third. I am ambivalent about him, but I definitely would rather take a risk his accuracy improves over taking Rudolph, so I half expect Rudolph is the fella we end up with. As is, I am guessing Rosen and Darnold (if he comes out) are gone before we pick. I just don't see the Browns and Giants trading out.

Thats true of every player of every position, so not sure I get your point. The poster I responded to is down on Baker over his height, and I stated that 2 of the 4 best players at QB in the NFL are short so Baker's height shouldn't automatically rule him out to be a guy to stay away from. More importantly, Baker is still 6'-1" which is 2 inches taller than Wilson and one inch taller than Brees. Furthermore, he's only 1 inch shorter than Aaron Rodgers too.
So again, in the post I responded to, the point was plenty of guys shorter or near his height have had HOF careers and height shouldn't be a deciding factor on his draft worthiness or bust/hit potential.
I think a lot of folks are skeptical that Mayfield is 5'11", let alone 6'1." We'll find out at the combine.

A lot of people think it's a forgone conclusion that shady is gone after this season. That he will be shipped away
I don't subscribe to that for a number of reasons.
First, he has bought in to the process. He is a leader on the team and he is one of the few motivators we have on the roster
We also do not have any stable QB play potentially going into next year. A new rookie QB or TT without Shady will not be pretty. Losing a top 5 back is never an addition. Shady gives a rookie or whoever a fall back and a safety blanket.
Shady has 3-4 solid years left. This is when you ride him out. Get every single last carry and touch out of him until he has nothing left.
Shady has embraced Buffalo and runs his tail off for us. Getting a third round pick for him is not worth it.
He has been the only consistent 3 year bright spot for us on offense and he will help a young QB next year immensely . You don't trade away your most talented offensive player who shows up weekly
Yes, this makes sense. I hope they are smart enough to know this.
Sony Michel should be available with a mid-round pick, btw

The weakest spot on our OL is center. Wood cannot stay balanced to block, and either can't read the scheme or doesn't know who to blcok.
It's terrible.
Why don't they give Groy a shot? Didn't they just sign Wood to an extension or am I misremembering? For that matter, why is Vlad starting?
Really don't like Dennison, Castillo, wonder if these fellas can evaluate properly. And they are set to hopefully draft and develop a franchise qb.
Wish I had more confidence in them.

I hope not..USC quarterback are bad in the pros. Carson Palmer is the apex.
That's a generalization. Maybe Darnold is set to be the apex. I think Rosen and Darnold are the best options out there and both can be very good.

I kind of agree that Cleveland could trade out. They have been bad for so long and have Kiser, I would think they would grab a QB later in the first while adding more picks that could have them stocked up to make one heck of team. This draft has some interesting choices for QBs but I think Cleveland will build around and then take a later QB to fight Kiser in 2019, just MO.
Yeah, I don't know how the Browns view Kizer. If they truly think he can develop into a franchise qb, they could trade out. If that pick is available and at the top of the draft, we better pony up the assets and go get it.

Oh sorry man, I though you were saying it was another move up by Chicago for a QB. Oops, my bad
I agree Chicago could be a player to move down.
I might not have been clear. Sorry to have been confusing. Certainly, one would need either SF or Chicago to lose out. Otherwise, Browns and Giants are locked into the first two picks. Yolo is convinced the Browns will trade the pick, but I can't believe even they are that stupid.
-
My order of preference is Rosen/Darnold, Mayfield, Jackson, Allen. Folks I trust are not high on Allen, but he undoubtedly has arm talent you can't teach. Mayfield and Jackson are the fellas I think we have a reasonable shot at.

Chicago? To draft a QB? Didn't they just draft Trubinsky? I think Chicago will be looking to add to the team around the Trub not add another QB into the mix.IMO no way do they draft a QB in the 1st.
Fella was talking about SF as a trade partner to move up. I mentioned Chicago as a trade partner because of Trubisky.

The Colts will not trade that pick if it's #2 in conference. The 49ers will.
In other words, we need the 49ers to not win another game or we ain't getting Rosen or Darnold.
Which is ok we're going to get our QB. I hope.
Bears are also an option if they lose out. Browns, Giants still likely to be one, two, which means the odds of getting Rosen or Darnold are not high.
