Presidential Debates 2020
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Trump Bidened Biden. After the debate with Paul Ryan, where Biden's interrupting style was so widely noted that they did an SNL skit on it, Trump simply super-sized the Biden approach. I don't like the style from either side, generally find debates a waste of time, but Biden famously made Ryan look like a deer in the headlights. Biden interrupted, made derogatory comments and seemed frustrated enough that Wallace had to remind him what the question was, but seemed entirely unprepared for the tactic. I think Joe Biden from even four years ago is able to handle it without getting turned around. At one point as i recall he talked about dead people being out of work. -
No experience with scooters, but I know a Renaissance Man when I see one. Only suggestion is get liability insurance if you can. If you’re tooling along at 14 mph and your saddle bag catches the little old lady in the hip, you’re on the hook dawg.

I certainly hope that’s a deep fake. That “thread” is very thick unless the suit was stitched together with hemp twine. -

Biden was 50% of the man he was debating Paul Ryan just a few short years ago. His mind definitely wandered, and Wallace brought him back home. -

I’m not really sure how we can cheapen these discourse. Calling candidates racists/xenophobia’s/criminals/liars/treasonous/corrupt has been mainstream for 5 years. We’ve moved on to gang rapist, serial predator and now on to “****ing nuts and killer of women at the SC level. Soldiers are dumb bastards, POWs mocked and said former POW revealed as a two faced liar on the deciding vote for repealing health care. I think Biden tapping out is a good call. He performed as I expected tonight, I didn’t think he would zone out like he does in many interviews, but he’s 50% the man he was v Paul Ryan, if that. -

Oh, ok..well thanks for the insight. What was the part about the football teams, the Patriots getting penalized? Is Wallace a Pats fan? If so, he’s dead to me. -

Another excellent point. As you said earlier, Trump simply fights back. Biden came unhinged a few times there, really on easy issues. -

All that really matters in that respect, imo, is how undecideds view Grandpa Joe needing to be reminded of the question on multiple occasions, or that he needed a moderator to do his heavy lifting to avoid a blown retina. As for the moderator, no justice is done in a debate when you become the story. No one is available to fact check the fact checker, or to point out errors like forgetting to discuss the actual cost of Biden’s New Green Deal when he prepared a question about the New Green Deal. No one needs to see a moderator soft tugging his candidate of choice. Two more to go. Maybe the next one will have some fireworks. -

Wallace set the table for Biden to answer a question in the Green New Deal. Talked specifics, talked actual plan and then went soft af on the projected price tag, leaving a softball in the air for Biden. Did Wallace not know the projected costs? Had he not done the research? Or, did he think the price tag for the GND irrelevant in a presidential debate? Weak. -

I wasn’t under it. I made a statement back. Though, Junior was perhaps a bit harsh. It sounded funny in my head. -

Look junior play your games with someone else. There are many miles left on ride that can lift or destroy candidates. Joe looks confused and Wallace had to remind of the original question, with Biden lighting up at one point like he knew the difference between the chocolate and tapioca pudding. My point is simply it was a Biden game, Trump plays it well. -

But that stage was set years ago, when Biden heckled Paul Ryan, barking out “Malarkey” and making derogatory and dismissive comments as Ryan spoke. It was effective. It’s the Scranton tough guy act, Biden made millions off it and provided very well for his family. Trump simply knows the game and matched tone and temperament. Definitely necessary as Wallace walks grandpa through the questions. -
So here’s a secret. Being cautious or distrustful of others, especially those who don’t look like you or talk like you or come from the same country as you is perfectly normal. It’s not a fool proof plan to keep one safe, obviously, but assimilation takes time, effort, energy and working against a million years of evolution. We’re getting there, but it just takes time. The deep state is real, it’s a thing, and in other places we feel totally comfortable referring to something as “systemic”. People are corrupt, The End.

Well, part pf the challenge is that you're attempting to look at an American problem through Canadian eyes. That's not a knock, just an observation, and I see thing clearly through the eyes of an American citizen born and raised when I was. My experiences are unique, as are yours. Working backwards, I don't spend a moment worrying about losing "world respect", mostly because there is no such thing. The phrase is meaningless. The average American couldn't name more than a few world leaders and most would fail miserably on other important figures. Besides, those folks are the elites of the world, and have precious little in common with you or me, I say &^%$ 'em if they don't like me. As for a divided nation, the challenge is not on my side of things, friend. It's never been, at least during this time of Trump. Most of his supporters sat by and watched Obama and Biden lead the country--no call to impeach, no call to remove from office, no bogus charges that Obama was a plant of the Chinese government. When SC nominees were announced, there was no attempt to destroy them, no attempt to vilify them, no attempt to ruin their life work. When Hillary Clinton ran against DJT for prom queen, her opening salvo was xenophobe, racist etc as she and her merry band of scumbags whined about a presidential candidate acting 'Presidential'. I say *&^% her and her merry band. See, in my opinion, you can't meet in the middle if your opponent is screaming "I'll steal your vote and you'll see it my way or else". That's not a middle. Hell you're out here espousing the theory that we should submit to their demands or they'll burn us out. I saw that episode of The Walking Dead, I read Lord of the Flies, that's not where I see myself going. The challenge is that Joe Biden IS the answer, and Kamala Harris IS the answer for them. An old insider and long time racial dunderhead and his assassin co-pilot. I say again, pass. The reality in our country is that most people get along, most tolerate one another, most are respectful of the opinions of others. Those that are not generally keep their thoughts to themselves, and those with distrust of others generally live their lives without causing any harm to those they despise. The new norm is that as random hordes stomp past a family patronizing a local restaurant, they confront them, scream at them, disrupt their peace, drink their drink--all under the cover of another 50-100 morons willing to pounce--and ordinary folks are told that's just progress and peaceful assembly, It's neither. Gotta run, but thanks for the feedback. For what it's worth, I thought the Canadians treated Haitian refugees very, very poorly after Trudeau criticized the US for it's immigration reform efforts. As many Haitians made the long and arduous journey, they were met at times with hostility from mostly white Canadians and a message that they were not welcome there. #sad.

Inevitable. One juror complains about another, next thing you know mob visits the home of the supposedly anonymous juror and bad things happen. I don’t know that reference Doc, but if it involves DR getting paid in refundable bottle returns to avoid the scrutiny of the intelligence community then yes.

Amy Coney Barrett
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I can understand why you did, but she is a lightweight up through about 5 minutes. Did she ever get around to destroying anyone other than the reputation of whomever gave her the acting lessons? Very robotic. I swear I’ll push past 5 minutes to see her destroy Ted Cruz. -
If you believe that citizens should be given the choice to vote for a democrat or be bludgeoned into submission you know nothing about freedom. Additionally, if you think those that would bludgeon others in some sort of M. Night Shyamalan election night purge would peacefully disperse upon the coronation of Combover Joe, you know nothing of the history of the world. The more I think of it, Rhiïno might be a double agent. Or, he might even be M. Night Shyamalan. Hard to say. This will end well.

Amy Coney Barrett
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
She starts off by acknowledging that she has to scramble to figure out what she’s going to say after Ted Cruz speaks. The first 5 minutes has her voice cracking as if she’s about to cry—and maybe she is that emotional about whatever point she’s trying to make, and that’s fine—-she says the First Lady is about to lie in state, presumably meaning RBG, and I’m still not sure where the destruction part comes in? If she’s smart enough to have studied theater and to try and add emphasis with contrived hand gestures, I’d think she’s smart enough to know that when the Senate acts, it’s fulfilling its obligation to the people. Can you get me to the “destroy” part? **edit for clarity—she didn’t say First Lady, she said the first woman. My bad, the structure of that sentence seemed awkward to me so I went back and listened to her again. -
So...the suggestion is to acquiesce or face destruction? Pass. i do believe that Donald Trump is hijacking mail trucks, that Putin controls all and that @Deranged Rhinois a paid agent of change. Or, he’s paid with change.

I think we get used to seeing Biden lose himself in his thoughts so often in clips it’s a bit exaggerated. That is to say, he most definitely drifts, but does he drift all the time in a 90 minute chat? I just don’t see it happening. Btw, in a convo with a liberal friend today, I mentioned that “he’s losing it”. She asked if I was referring to his stutter, something I haven’t heard much about since he chose to portray himself as a victim a while back. I suggested she google some clips, but there are most definitely politically active people who hate Trump who have no idea he struggles with cohesive thought. -
The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The DOJ is the DOJ, no? Justice is blind, no political bias, just a well researched case brought against an American with a distinguished record of service. Seems the review revealed something different, and the DOJ moved to dismiss. Seems straight forward. -
The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The DOJ, upon reviewing all the details available on the case they brought, concluded that the matter should never have commenced. Individuals certainly can be reckless, but when the full weight and power of the US government has decided to crush you, you’re likely to be crushed. Imo it’s basically like an ordinary citizen standing up to the Mob in the 1960s. It has to feel a lot like this guy dancing on your skull.
