  1. I agree with you in principle. However, in reality, people who do not look out for themselves wind up living on the street asking me for change. They wind up on welfare and food stamps. They wind up causing problems with crime. All of these things cost ME money. As long as my money stays mine, I am happy.
  2. Yeah, no kidding...the beauty of the privitizaton of social security is that it FORCES you to invest in YOUR future. The current plan forces you to invest in SOMEONE ELSES future. If we could guarentee everyone would do the right thing and have 401ks, IRAs and investments we could do away with SS altogether, but unfortunatly people arent that responsible.
  3. So what you are saying is, 13,500 per year multiplied by YOUR social security contribution(7.5%) is about 80 dollars a month in social security taxes. So..$100 a month invested at 8% from 18 to 65 is $567,000.00 (as noted below). Therefore $80 a month invested at 8% from 18 to 65 is approx $400,000.00 If you take that retirement and put it in a savings account earning 3% and never touch the principle, you will recieve a check for $1,000 per month. Last I checked 1,000 is more than 815. AND you get to keep the 400k in the bank! You will get even more if you annuitize the 400k! This is a no-brainer. We need privatized accounts.
  4. I wonder if someone smarter than me can run these numbers. Suppose you earned a salary where you pay exactly $100 per month into the social security system. Given the same time frame (from 18 to 65 years old), how much money per month will you get out of the social secuirty program? I suspect is is SIGNIFIGANTLY less...and thus makes a strong argument for privitazation
  5. Obviously he is not "so good". I dont think anyone is claiming that he is. He does however have a TON of potential. Miami doesnt want potential, Syracuse doesnt want potential, they want guys who can step in and compete. Maybe it boils down to money. Perhaps he got a scholarship at SunyAlbany and nowhere else because he is too raw.
  6. They have a right to Regulate baseball, with the anti-trust exemtption and all...but the NFL and NBA? Its going overboard. The NBA as we know it would not exist if they were actually testing and punishing for drug use. Now THAT would be interesting...
  7. And for someone making 5M per year...(guess)
  8. At some point, the salary cap will not be able to be met by all teams. The beauty of it now, is that every single team can afford to pay 80 mil or whatever in salary. If you raise it to 110 or higher that might not be the case.
  9. Thats why mcnally was hired Also, shula and Johnson wasnt a bad duo either Oh, and what man ISNT a boob man?
  10. This is part of the reason miami is so dominate. The guys that make it in the NFL keep coming back and working out with the current students. When you are a recruit that has to look great.
  11. While I agree with you, I submit that kickers are fragile. When their mind starts going, they cant do anything. They need to be confident. New surroundings often do wonders for kickers. I'm not saying Brien is the wonder-kid we are all looking for, but what I am saying, is that he needs a fresh start somewhere. Same with Lindell. Lindell needs to move on, and I think Brien is at least capable of picking up where Lindell left off and perhaps give us a slight upgrade. I am open to just about ANY established kicker at this point though...Brien or not.
  12. Are we trading travis for philadelphias first rounder? I kid, I kid...
  13. 2 things? Oh..and he is bowling! ...and drafting his former teamates
  14. Yes, lindell made 86% of his FGs...but this stat is decieving. Statistics can be decieving. Ever remember a math teacher telling you that? Whats so decieving about that stat? Well, for starters he only attempted THREE field goals all season longer than 40 yards. THREE. and he made one of them. The year before, he tried 9 of them. He made 3. He has lost the confidence of the coaching staff. They wont even let him try a 40-45 yard field goal. If I have to sit there and watch us punt from the 25 yard line again I am going to scream. I dont blame Mularkey. I blame Lindell. Yes, Bring in Brien (or really anyone). At least somone new will have the chance to suceed here. Lindell wont because his confidence is shot.
  15. Game used pants? Uh...no thanks
  16. In fairness to ESPN, and all the folks involved with the production, this is a HUGE LIVE undertaking. Live TV is the hardest thing to do in the industry. Combine that with 10 straight hours of live coverage and you have any broadcasters nightmare. Look how dan rather holds up on election nights! Whomever said to get rid of some people, I disagree. They need to take turns. They need more people. Dig up Tom Jackson or Kenny Mayne or someone and let them take a turn anchoring the desk for an hour. Let Micheal Irvin swap out with Tori Holt. Mix it up some. Let them take a break and be fresh when they come back. Also, there is absolutly no excuse for not showing the picks. They did well the first 2 rounds, but after that they were terrible. Commercials happen. You have to expect that. But when you come back from comercial, if you missed a pick, cover it! Tell me who went. This is the NFL draft! If im watching during round 6, you can rest assured its because i want to see who is drafted and not to watch you rehash whether green bay made the right decision taking rodgers for the 457th time. When I have to sit at my computer listening to the podium audio and refreshing NFL.com to see who is picked, things have gone too far. I agree Jansen did a good job. This is kinda a tryout for a future career after you retire. TKO did it last year, Trent Green and tori holt this year. I like it actually. It adds a differnet flavor, and you see these guys in a different (and usually good) light. Besides, the more guys that try out, the more likely it is we might never need to look at micheal irvin again. Bring the ticker back. This is the NFL DRAFT. I want to see who is drafted. If I go to the bathroom and come back, and miss a pick or two, i want to know about it. If i have to wait for you to scroll through some random order of teams to find out who went number 241 and 242, and dont even know who those teams are, im not going to be happy and im going to look it up on nfl.com I dont give the coverage an F. But its definatly not an A either. I go with a C-. A lot of room for improvement, but given the extremely difficult task they are faced with every year, its impressive they do it this well.
  17. You could pry vanderjact away from IND without much problem. Same goes for Doug Brien from NYJ. Someone will come up better than lindell (who isnt?), but will we want to pay for them and pay dead cap on lindell. thats the issue.
  18. Strengths: Is an experienced and tough MLB prospect that dominated the small school level of competition throughout his four seasons as a fulltime starter. Plays with a rare passion for the game. Few give a better effort. He is one of the toughest players in this year's draft. He has good size, explosive power and shows the ability to consistently hold up in the phone booth. He has outstanding instincts and does a good job of reading his keys and reacting. He is a powerful wrap-up tackler. Has good ball skills if he's in position in coverage and has decent range in zone coverage because of his instincts. Has the perfect makeup to compete on special teams. Weaknesses: Lacks ideal athleticism. Is quick in the short area but the more space he's in the stiffer he looks. His hips lack fluidity and he has trouble changing directions quickly enough. He struggles to recover from false steps and he has marginal speed. He is limited in terms of his range in zone coverage and he also would be a liability in man-to-man coverage against quicker and faster NFL RB's. Overall: Ezekiel became the first Northeastern player to ever earn All-Atlantic 10 honors as a freshman in 2001, when he played in all but two games and finished with 82 tackles, nine tackles for loss and three sacks. He led the conference in tackles in 2002 with a school-record 145. He started all 12 games as a junior in 2003 and finished with 140 tackles, 10.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks. As a senior in 2004, Ezekiel finished sixth in DI-AA with 122 total tackles, eight TFL and 2.5 sacks. He finished his career as a three-time first-team All-Atlantic 10 honoree. Ezekiel, who played the last five games of the 2002 season with a broken thumb, is one of the toughest linebackers in this class. He has great size and strength. Also, while he doesn't have good top-end speed, he does move well laterally and shows good short-area quickness. Ezekiel's NFL potential is limited by his below average speed and overall lack of ideal athleticism in coverage. However, he has enough experience, size, strength, toughness and quickness to serve as a backup ILB that contributes on special teams in the NFL. We think he's a great value in the final three rounds of the upcoming draft and is the type of player that NFL organizations should want on their roster.
  19. Bills | URFA Ezekiel Signed - from www.KFFL.com Sun, 24 Apr 2005 19:14:57 -0700 The Buffalo Bills have signed undrafted rookie free agent LB Liam Ezekiel (Northeastern).
  20. Some are already coming out...kffl has 3 listed. Kinney the LB from Missouri went to Jax. The only big one thus far.
  21. Anyone who can make a career out of playing or watching football (or any sport) has my admiration.
  22. Impressive...except you are talking about vanderbuilt...
  23. Yes. And I hate the fact that after round 2, they hardly even cover who has been picked. At least show us the names after they come back from commercial.
  24. Keep in mind each team has 15 minutes...with 4 or 5 comercial breaks an hour, and 4 to 5 picks an hour its likely the majority of teams have commercials during their picks. I think it just seems like they do it only to the bills, but in reality, its about every team/
