Imagine being a sports clothing retailer in WNY if the Bills and Sabres both come to their senses at the same time. Hopefully it happens this year for both!

Saban contacts Dom Capers about position.

I think Ted would probably agree with Marv's opinions on the character of the organization given his brief time in Minnesota... -
The play happened too fast for to me have any inkling of purposeful intent. It's just that the way the defender came through the block and the position Palmer was in made for a bad collision. The thing that upset me most about the game was the horrendous officiating with regards to the pass interference no-call on TJ Hushmenzadah and then the pass interference call made on the Bengals that was less obvious than the no-call. This caused a 14-point swing in the game in the Steelers favor. I think it's time to consider replay on these types of plays, because they too often make the difference in games. If the league wants to get it right on turnovers, shouldn't they also have the option to look at obvious missed calls on penalties? It's even more embarrasing when the zebras have a 1-minute huddle and come out of it making the wrong decision after the replay has already been seen at home several times. In the case of the fumbles that were ruled down by contact -- fortunately they balanced out. But the pass interference inconsistency hurt the Bengals.

another Mock Draft...i LIKE this one!
MichFan replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we can get Jason Avant with one of our picks in the 3rd round, we better do so. Jason will be what the organization always hoped Josh Reed would become -- a solid underneath possession receiver. He's not fast, but he get's open, catches the ball, and takes a hit. -
I know a little about Michigan football (see my name?). Gabe could prove me wrong and excel at the pro level. I hope he does because he seems to be a nice guy. But he just doesn't have a fire for the game. He actually was benched this season for his lack of effort -- not a good thing to have on your resume for the Senior season. Underachiever, lazy, and risk are the words being used by scouts in their assessment of him. This just doesn't seem like a 1st round pick to me, and I'd be careful about spending a high 2nd rounder.
-
Gabe Watson a starter and 2nd round pick? Jeez, it will take the guy a year just to decide that he really wants to play at the pro level. Picking him with a 2nd rounder would be a bigger risk than McGahee was.

Open letter to the Buffalo Bills:
MichFan replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On a more positive note: @##$% you NFL refrees for again securing a win for your golden boys $%#@!$ you ESPN for making me put up with the endless Bruschi gushing #^$# you Stuart Scott for glamorizing the fact that Bruschi actually managed to floss his teeth this morning and calling every bull@#$# blown call by the referees as undisputable facts The Bills have no character. They are an unfortunate assembly of players and coaches that can't make and then pull off a winning game plan. JP for the rest of the season, find out who the character players are, and get ready to remold yet again, only this time hopefully with a young nucleus. -
Does anyone remember about 20-25 years ago when a "seer" predicted that an overhang at the Falls was going to collapse? At the time predicted, the area was cleared and all the local TV stations went live to the scene. It was a freakish sense of awe, thinking it wasn't going to happen but wondering "what if". I sense the same freakish sense around how ESPN is approaching tonights game -- as if people will be watching with the outside thought that Bruschi is going to die on the field from a stroke.

Last year's late season run was against mostly poor to average teams, so the thought that something was building going into this season was too optimistic. One thing we couldn't handle was injuries on the O-Line and to Takeo, sure enough we got both right off the bat. It's time to hand this season off to the Bills of the future -- what better way than to have them get their first crack against New England on prime time? The pummeling they would get would set the table for years of revenge. So I don't like the idea of waiting until the bye week to make changes. We've got 9 more games to figure out who our keepers are going into next season and develop a true attitude for next year. If we lose enough along the way, we can pick up an impact lineman or DB in the draft. Hate to say I'm cashing in the chips so early, but our schedule through the last half of the season is no way near as easy as what we had last year and our team simply is not capable of going 7-2 the rest of the season.

Nice to see so many getting chuckles from a story such as this. The troll level at TBD is starting to get out of control. Also interesting that one of the biggest liberals on PPP (Campy) chooses to fall back on rules he assumes exist to justify the decision. I thought that to liberals, rules were to be set aside when they got in the way of doing the right thing. This was the kid's fourth game. No issues with anyone in the first three. The Archdeacon article stated that the Ohio schools association confirmed over the weekend that the kid was indeed eligible to play and there would be no issues going forward. Someone asked how good a player he is. I don't know. He made the team, he gives his best effort, his teammates support him. Who is anyone to second-guess their decisions in this matter?
-
Dayton Daily News ran a cover page story about this kid in the Sunday sports section on 9/11. It was an awe-inspiring read. For those who don't check the link above, we have a kid playing high school football here in Dayton who has no legs. He runs around the field using his arms. In the last game he played, he had two tackles -- one on special teams and another on defense. Monday morning, the headline story on the front page of the Dayton Daily was about the situation that led to him being removed from the next game. From Dayton Daily News' Tom Archdeacon's coverage of this story: Shame on the referees. Cincy paper article seems to be defending them -- there is no defense for using a uniform rule to omit a kid who clearly can't comply with it. The uniform code referenced was for LEG protection. This kid doesn't have legs!!! Therefore, why would he need leg protection? This isn't the first time the kid laced 'em up, and everyone involved knew about the situation. Simply a disgusting decision. I've been pissed about this all week.

Two mind boggling moves by Mularky
MichFan replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Finally, f i n a l l y, someone else who sees the move for what it really was. Problem is, he waited too long to do it. When a young QB is clearly struggling, you do this early on so that you can still impact the game. Should have done it in the 2nd Qtr. (on the 1 yd. line posession) and then talked about it at half time. -
If JP's confidence is shot by getting pulled...
MichFan replied to Fake-Fat Sunny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is not uncommon for a young QB who is struggling to spend a series on the sideline to study what the defense is doing and gather himself. MM should have done it much, much earlier in the game because it was clear JP was way off from the very beginning. I was beside myself when Holcomb didn't go in for the drive when they were backed up to the 1 yd line. It's not a matter of "benching" JP, it's about calming him down and letting him see what the defense is doing from a different perspective. This seasion is going to be a balance between developing JP and winning games. Yesterday's game was winnable, but the coaching staff blew it by feeding JP to the wolves on that series. Sitting him for a series at cleanup time and then putting him back in was largely ineffective. It was too late to calm him down and then go win the game. It was too late to make him worry that he would ever get pulled from a game (if that is what some people thought the message was). -
Seems to me Holcomb WAS a starting QB last year and would have started for the Browns this year if they hadn't of pissed him off. To those slamming the idea -- you're defending something that led directly to 9 points for Tampa Bay. Losman is a newbie. Holcomb a seasoned veteran. With the Bills backed up to the 1-yard line on the road against a top-notch defense, I'd rather have experience out there than a young kid who's been off all game to that point. But hey, I guess I thought the idea was playoffs this year, not needlessly risking games for sake of seasoning our young QB. I'm not calling for a QB controversy, we just should have given JP a breather and calmed him down a little rather than needlessly feeding him to the wolves.
-
Why in the flying frick didn't they bring Holbomb in for that drive? Losman needed to calm down, that was the wrong situation to put him in at that time.
-
Congrats Irish! Your defense took Henne out of the game. Your offense did enough to win. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for Carr @ Co.

Go Blue!!!! BTW- I enjoy this game much more than the Ohio St. game. Notre Dame fans have class and can say more than "Michigan sucks, duh huh, duh huh".

Maybe I'm missing something, but when I read this all I see is a request for more money than usual to support state efforts and then federal help in cleaning up debris. This letter doesn't seem to address the issues that people are raising with regards to FEMA's involvement with food, water, shelter, and evacuation.
-
I had the same thought last week. But Kerik was up for Homeland Security, not FEMA. No one in either party really gave a rats behind about who got appointed to head FEMA.

Katrina evacuee invited into family home
MichFan replied to sweet baboo's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I also wonder what it will be like when these families who have opened up their homes to evacuees decide it is time for them to move on. My instinct if I were single would be to house evacuees. Having a wife and children I couldn't justify taking the risk. -
Yep, there is a line one crosses from which there is no return. In many people's mind Kanye West crossed that line. It was extraordinary to hear that a stadium of people from Ted Kennedy's stomping grounds in Boston, MA boo'ed a guy for Bush bashing.

The Pats fan's screen name is "patswhiponthebills", yet he comes off so much more reasonable than the potrayer of this twisted rant. I can't wait for the season to start -- maybe then we can focus more on JP's persona and hairstyle than Brady's. God do I hope JP doesn't cut his hair, grow some stubble, say hello to his Mom or a friend from Tulane named Bubba.
-
Maybe because he did a video about the children of the blood diamonds instead of shooting a cop, raping a honey, or glamorizing gangsta life.

No, but it is a conservative ideal to be able to call a spade a spade without worrying about the politically correct crowd accusing us of stereotyping. I'd hate to be the one trying to defend the intellectual faculties of guys like 50 Cent, Ludacris, Eminem, etc.
