  1. I like him personally... and the Bills are putting up a fight.

But fact is, we haven't been winning games with him as head coach. Better improve next year, or its on to the next guy...

It's kinda been a weird season. Right now, I don't feel like coaching is the main reason we're losing games. The coaches are actually making some nice adjustments, calling some good plays and putting these players in position to win games (especially in the 2nd half). It's just been mistakes on the field that are costing them wins. Plus the overall talent level is not on par with the better clubs (especially on D). I killed Gailey at the beginning of the season for starting Trent and Lynch but they quickly rectified that situation. I actually think the Bills are in much better shape at head coach and QB than alot of people thought they were a few weeks ago.

  2. I love these threads. I said it when he was Starting here...and I'll say it again. Edwards is nothing but a below average backup QB. He might not even be backup material at this point.

I'd be amazed if he ever starts another game in this league (other than an emergency backup).

  3. Just asked Gil Brandt the very same question on his live chat. I realize that the NFL wants to maintain the tradition and rivalries that exist in divisions, but how long does the AFC East have to be one of the best divisions in the NFL and the NFC West one of the worst.

While people will argue that the Cardinals were just recently in the Super Bowl, they are missing the point, as it's the overall division that's weak.

I very much dislike when huge decisions are made based on one snapshot in time. Yes- the NFC West blows today and probably next year...but in 3-4 years they could have a couple dominant teams. The league is too fluid to say break up the NFC West now because they stink. In a couple years the AFC East might be much weaker.

  4. True, but once the Bills get a MNF game on the schedule, it'll be against the Patriots, Jets, or Cowboys and they'll lose in some horrific, gut-wrenching fashion.

I'll stick with all 1:00 Sunday games for now, thank you.

And the Bills are doing a mighty fine job losing in gut-wrenching fashion in the 1:00pm time slot as well!

I kept watching Anderson, thinking to myself, "The last time a I saw a quarterback look so good in one place and so bad in another, the Bills coughed up a first and a fourth."

So true. Unfortunately when Arizona leapfrogs the Bills for draft position, we will have two teams (Panthers and Cards) ahead of us needing franchise QB's. Although I have to say, I am very happy with Fitz now and beyond. No way a rookie comes in and can do what Fitz can do now.

  5. You'd have zero chance of relocation. The NHL would not allow it. If Bettman would only field offers from owners looking to keep the team in Buffalo last time, you'd have to think it would be much the same this time. Also, Buffalo is the NHL's #1 US market. No chance of relocation.

Agreed. Buffalo gets the highest ratings of any US city for random games. Of course, when the Sabres are good...Sabres games can be in the 30's ratings in the WNY market which is sick for hockey. It's a great NHL market and looks fantastic when compared to other US cities like NJ, Atlanta, all Florida, Nashville, Carolina, Phoenix, etc, etc, etc...

  6. Good points. As i mentioned after the KC game, I truly believe these crazy losses are some kind of divine intervention which will ultimately result in some great- game changing draft picks coming up. These losses hurt now, but there's not much difference in 2-9 or 3-8. It's obvious the Bills can play with the big boys and a couple more difference makers can flip these L's into W's. I'm pretty optimistic about this team and I love Chan's play calling.

  7. The problem here is that you are living off of 2 games for Fitz, Balt and Cincy. So really, you are hanging you hat on 3 quarters of play against Balt (1st, 2nd, and 4th) and two quarters against Cincy (3rd and 4th where he was great). Outside of that, he has been largely ineffective and mistake prone. In fact he has 7 INT's over his last 5 games and KC dropped 2 right in their hands and Cincy gave one back to start the game this weekend plus several other dropped INT's he has been lucky on.

I was at the Miami game last year and Indy for that matter....hence i was pounding the lecturn so to speak to have Fitz start the opener this year vs. Miami. Made me ill that Gailey threw Tony SParano a gift by starting Edwards in that game. Sparano would have told you which QB he would rather have faced seeing as Fitz carved up his team in Orchard Park last fall. Anyway, the point is I'm not hanging my hat on 3 Qtrs vs. Baltimore and 2 Qtrs vs. Cinci. Nice try. I actually like his "body of work" since he's been here. If you want to pick apart every teams QB to that level of detail, then I'm sure you can try to convince yourself that Brees, Rivers, Ryan, Flacco etc,,, are very flawed QB's as well. I guess only Mike Vick is off the hook since he hasn't thrown a pick yet this season or an inaccurate pass. So far this season, Fitz's attempts, yards, completion % and TD's are way up. Maybe it's not a coincidence since he is now working under Chan Gailey.

Just try not to work so hard to convince yourself that Fitz is not good. It's like some posters are on a crusade against the guy. Jeez!

  8. Spiller seems like he started his career with a sophmore slump .... sometimes it seems like he is too prone to believing his speed will always get him past a tackler. One of the thinks I love about Fred Jackson is that while he does not have Siller's spped he has an uncanny ability to make tacklers partially then fully miss him. Somehow he just does not let guys get a a grip on him to make the tackle. I know CJ has to have his own style but he could learn a great deal from FJ.

Yup. Fred is the master at the One or Two Cut move...no wasted motion. He just finds the seam, plants his foot and cuts...if he makes it past the LB's he usually does a 2nd cut, but its not a juke move. He's very decisive like Maurice Jones-Drew. Yes, CJ has to learn this or he will have a 3.0 ypc career.

  9. I prefer McLovin' returning the KO's. He seems more decisive and burns it up in there, instead of stutter stepping (which will kill any KO return instantly). I do agree that we need Leodis in the secondary so letting CJ learn on the fly is probably the wiser way to go. It's not like the team is battling for a playoff berth.

  10. I'm tired of all the "franchise quarterback" talk. I really am. In the NFL there are some great QBs, some bad QBs and the rest are kind of bunched up. Fitz is in that bunched up category but he has climbed rapidly this year to near the top of that heap. There's no reason to believe that if he had a better team around him, that whe would not improve into a great QB. Somehow, people seem to think that Brady, Manning and Brees never have a bad game or throw a bad pass or two? Didn't Peyton just throw away a game last weekend at NE? Didn't Brady get completely punked and look awful at Cleveland a couple weeks ago (and a few other games)? Brees didn't look good at all early in the season. I mean, why do posters expect Fitz to be perfect on every throw every week? my gosh, it's ridiculous. I would like people to realize that Fitz is playing at a very high level on a very mediocre to below club. If i could trade Fitz for one of these guys today, I'd do it in a heartbeat. That's between 11-13 guys. That's it. This is who i'd rather have then Fitz and its a pretty short list. I think the team should still grab one of the Elite QB's on the draft to groom for the future, but i would not be at all upset if they went heavy on D and O-line.

    Michael Vick

    Philip Rivers

    Ben Roethlisberger

    Tom Brady

    Aaron Rodgers

    Peyton Manning

    Drew Brees

    Matt Ryan

    Joe Flacco

    Eli Manning

    Tony Romo

    Mark Sanchez (maybe)

    Kyle Orton (maybe)

  11. That was pretty funny. Gotta hand it to Crisis Carter on that one. They set it up nicely by showing Brady, Peyton, Eli, Garrard, all wearing really nice suits in their postgame pressers, then Stevie all tatted up and wearing skullcap and wife beater. Cmon man! Carter is shouting at him "you got money!"

  12. I think it's interesting that as a WR, you don't want them taking big hits...there's nothing to gain by grinding for an extra yard in most cases. I think self-preservation is a good thing and Stevie knows that. As a RB, they are considered tough if they smash heads. Totally different positions. Even with RB's, it's ok if a guy like Lynch or Marion Barber wants to create havoc but you don't want CJ Spiller or guys like that trying to take guys on too much. It's just a recipe for injury.

  13. Funny how people can listen to the announcers and get a totally different vibe. I thought Tasker was slanted a bit towards the Bills yesterday. He agreed with nearly every call against Cinci, disagreed with some of the calls against Buffalo....continuously ripped on Palmer ignoring Ochocinco and some of their play calling.... He was kind of pumping up the Bills whenever he got a chance. I thought Tasker was very fair and did a good job.

  14. Take a similar player like Austin Collie...who may have gotten concussed again over the weekend. I mean his career is at stake now b/c he takes some big hits after receptions. Our man Stevie, catches the ball in traffic and kinda' goes in slide mode when he's about to get drilled. I personally think its brilliant. What a brutal position it is to play and Stevie knows when to get the 1st down and get out of harms way.

  15. Gailey wants to win. If he did his due diligence on the Bills' gig, he knows he's got 3 years max to turn this thing around. Year 1 wasn't going to happen. Now he's got a guy he can win with. Sure we started 0-8, but we could now perhaps go 4-4 or 5-3 in the last 8. If he goes and gets a hot shot rookie and throws him in, then chances are we suck again next year while this green kid "delvelops". Now he's almost out of year.

With Fitz we finally have what we've been trying to get for the last 6 years. A young guy to develop that will develop. Fitz is almost there. He understand the pro game. He can read defenses. He's adjusted to the speed of the game. All he needs now is a decent defense and better protection from the OLine. When he has time to throw, he's very good. Most often he doesn't have that much time.

Today he showed another attribute of a good pro QB. A short memory. After those first 2 picks, many QBs would have never recovered.

I agree about the short memory. That is something that should not be taken for granted. This is the exact mentality that Kelly had and Favre for that matter. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it will kill you. You just hope in the end that the positive plays (3rd down conversions, TD's, etc,)..outweigh the negative plays. It's a whole lot better than other QB's we've seen who go into a conservative shell with each INT. Also, Gailey seems to be a gunslinger as well. Against the Chiefs and Bears he was not conservative at all late in the games while going for the win.

  16. you realize just how much Chan loves this guy and his ability to direct the offense on the field. I don't think we (fans) have any appreciation for the intricacies involved in being a successful QB and identifying coverages, calling out protection schemes, finding the "hot" receiver, etc..., let alone putting the ball in there. I think whatever rookie QB gets drafted by the Bills, he is gonna have an awful tough time earning the trust and faith of Gailey like Fitz has. I see Fitz being the starter here next season and probably longer (assuming Gailey is here).
