  1. I am not an expert by any means, but I too have watched the various offerings from the banks and we started to try to fine tune how we were holding our cash assets. For CDs, we recently moved on from our money market accounts to take advantage of the higher rates on CDs. We have set up a ladder approach by creating a series of 3, 6 and 12 month CDs to allow for some flexibility. If rates get better, we can roll them over to new rate, whereas if it drops, the funds can be allocated elsewhere.

As someone mentioned before, I bonds also seem like a great investment although you can only allocate 10K per year, But you can create various accounts for the wife and kids ( 10K each). Its a good way to put some cash away for the kids.

He's finished.  Every season that he continues to coach adds to the mainstream narrative that he was only good because of Brady.  I actually don't look forward to Kraft's firing of Belichick, which I'm sure won't be a "firing" on paper, presumably at least.  Maybe Belichick's ego is just that big, that he'll force Kraft to fire him.  Should be interesting to be sure.

I would love BB end in New England be a scribbled note on the podium "I hereby resign as H.C. of the N.E.P."

RIP Mike Kadish. When most people think of the 1972 undefeated Miami Dolphins, the name Mike Kadish is rarely mentioned. Unless you're a longtime Dolphin fan from the 1970s, you probably don't remember him at all. Yet, he was the Dolphins first round draft pick in 1972 after an All American career as a defensive tackle at Notre Dame. How forgetful was Kadish's Dolphins career? When Kadish showed up to camp overweight, head coach Don Shula asked him what happened? Kadish told Shula he got married. Shula responded "Did you marry a refrigerator?" Kadish would spend the entire 1972 season on the team's taxi squad without playing a single down. After suffering a concussion in 1973, Kadish was traded to the Buffalo Bills. Kadish ended up having a solid career and played 9 seasons with Bills from 1973 to 1981 without missing a game. He's one of the few Bills that can actually say he has a Super Bowl ring. Kadish had battled Parkinson's Disease for several years. He passed away on March 19th. Mike Kadish was 72.

  4. My wife Pat is one of 15 O'Tooles, no twins, no miscarriages all within the span of 20 years. She is #8 with 7 older, 7 younger. There were 11 boys (2 have since passed). When people ask her to name them (actually ask any one of them to name them) they always have a sing-song recital of every kid from the oldest to the youngest. The father was an Olympic runner (and obviously the mother wasn't) Good Irish Catholic family from Long Island, most of the kids went to Catholic schools through at least high school. some to Catholic colleges. 42 Grandchildren and well over 45 great grandchildren (and still growing).

  5. I would rather be remembered like that than the flowery stuff some people end up with, "A kind and gentle soul who loved life blah blah blah"

Call it like it is, just as they did for this guy, the love by whomever wrote it is evident. I'm sure Kenney is laughing his ass off.

After Route 66... You should do the Great Loop!

I have looked into the Great Loop, the only issue I have with it is my current boat uses considerably more fuel than would be advisable. The average speed on the loop is 8 MPH between the locks and the various wake limits. To change out boats I would prefer to go to a diesel powered around 32-34 in that class I love the Mainship Pilot 34 Sedan, (Rumrunner edition). The loop also requires about a year to complete and I would be best served doing it when and if we sell our current home, prior to moving on to the next one.

My buddy and his girl did it this summer

they said they tried taking the old route as much as they could

That seems to be a recurring theme, as we get closer I expect we will jump back and forth from the various super highways to see the attractions. If we are retired and have no definite schedule, time is not an issue. My first thought is we would start in a rental car from Chicago, drive one way covering the route and then take the California Zephyr from Sacramento to Denver and fly home from there. Give ourselves a decent cushion to allow for the train/flight connections and just enjoy the drive.

  8. We were kicking around some ideas for a vacation. Watching some different documentaries and came across "Passport to the world : Route 66" and wondered if anyone has done the drive from Chicago to Santa Monica via the old route 66.

Lots of interesting restaurants and nostalgic sites along the way.

    Anyone tried it?

    Is it worth the drive?

Tips for best things along the way?

  9. I went to college and played volleyball with George Santos, obviously I was the backup as his skill set was so incredible that he took up two positions on the court any time he was out there. Sadly he played in 26 of the 22 games we played, so I really never had a chance to show my stuff.
