You're making me think; maybe RJ had Uncontrollable Falling-Down Syndrome.

Are both Campbell and Euhus on IR and therefore out in any potential playoff situation? I think I remember seeing that Euhus won't make it back on a practice field till late spring. It sure would be nice to have some TE experience in critical games. Right now, we have to hope that Peters, Neufeld and Trafford will do their magic. What do you all think about next year? Do we draft or sign another TE in worries about Euhus' ability to make it back from the injury, or Campbell's not yet reaching the upper echelon of TEs? Anyone know who will be available? Do we push Peters back into the OL shuffle or start exploring him as a real weapon with the ball? No "let's not talk about next year" replies, please. It's fun to discuss while we wait, and far more interesting than worrying about whether the top teams will rest their guys, which we'll find out in due time.

Precisely why New England has succeeded the past few years. They are not a specific "type" of team, aside from one that executes a game plan made for a specific team. They play a specific game geared to the opponent. It's one game where you do let the opponent define what you do. When Mularkey has lost, it has been because of a poor game plan or a poor execution thereof. GW could never adjust that. Looks like MM can. I for one would love a third shot at NE, but first things first. Let's beat the Steelers.

where to see the game in Saratoga

I am going to be up in Saratoga visiting in-laws this weekend, and to my dismay CBS is showing the Jets game instead. Anyone know of a good place in the area that will show the Bills game? Thanks in advance.

Confederate flag dress at the prom?
RuntheDamnBall replied to a topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No, it wasn't. And the KKK has been allowed to have marches and even the ACLU has protected white supremacists' free speech, which does bother me, but I understand the right. What do you think about the limit on free speech regarding joking about bombs in an airport, or threats on an official's life? Where does the border lie? I think free speech is a right worth protecting. But I also think any group that uses that right with the ultimate intention of harming other human beings (like a white supremacist group) might merit consideration for being monitored. As far as the prom dress goes, it's ridiculous, and the girl should be able to go to the prom, look dumb, and be applauded by anyone dumb enough to think it's a good idea. -
What Bills scenario would you rather see?

I also hope we win, if only to drive down the Cowboys' draft pick. Speaking of which, anyone know how this works: if we finish with a better record than the Rams, et. al, even though we do not make the playoffs, do we have a later draft pick than them, or are all the playoff teams last? -
Confederate flag dress at the prom?
RuntheDamnBall replied to a topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think we would all be giving a girl who spent four years on her prom dress a little too much credit to believe she was considering states' rights. If she knows where her state capital is, I'm sending her a check in the mail. -

I know what you're saying, but it's easy for you to say because you aren't African-American. I make no claim to speak for that population, but you have to realize that the meaning of the symbol is contextual. In the context of American racism, slavery, and what people have used the confederate flag for, it is a pretty violent symbol for blacks. In Greek mythology, the swastika is pretty harmless. In more recent history, it isn't. -

Joe, can you read the Bible and find anything that would qualify a white-supremacist as a Christian? Please. Extremists are so far from the good in their religion that they evade the religion itself. -
I have some dear friends in Chennai (Madras) who live right by the water. I have not been able to get a hold of them and am really worried. Please keep them in your thoughts/prayers. This is a real disaster that is affecting real people. Let's hope that as many people are helped as possible, in every way possible.

Is that guy not the NFL's most gruesome-looking quarterback? He makes Elway look normal.

Our fate is in the hands of Mike Martz?
RuntheDamnBall replied to nodnarb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't believe Indy doesn't need the win. They need the momentum. They are hot, and would be stupid to cool it off heading into the playoffs. I just don't believe that Peyton lets this one go. I also don't believe Denver is that good. Martz is a goddamn moron. Always thought so. His successes were all a result of Vermeil's planning. He can't call a game for sh-- and his baseless arrogance is starting to come back to haunt him. You are right, to rely on him is to put our trust in failure. I'd like to believe that with their playoff hopes resting on it they can take down the Jets at home, and of course we know anything is possible. But Martz has cost his team games and made them look worse than they are. -
Sorry, Dungy is a smart guy but even moreso he is a competitor. He will not lay down just so he can see the Broncs again in a week. Nor will the Steelers do so for us. Will they maybe rest a marquee guy? Looks like the Steelers are doing that, but then again they have another week off anyway, so 'momentum' doesn't really matter. For the Colts, it does. It's not like them to just bum one off into the playoffs. It would be foolish; you know it and Dungy knows it. The way this league is Denver could get real hot once they punch a ticket to the playoffs. It's a whole new season. I hope the Bills are in there.

Around here we were on "Vertigo" overkill. It must have been on every goddamned ad produced in the city for a month. Plus those IPod ads. F--in hipsters. -
US kids getting hammered on Math and Science
RuntheDamnBall replied to Mickey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Darin, when kids in your town are having gym class in the school lobby because they can't afford a phys. ed. program and facility, it might make sense to you. But then again, we have plenty of money to toss the Jets' way. -

RuntheDamnBall replied to Mickey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I won't. But I do think that school boards are much more accountable than public officials. They bring out votes that are a lot more complex, you must agree. And generally people are much more passionate about it than the government because it directly affects their families/lives. I usually think your posts are on, GG, but I can't quite get what you are saying here. Mick has already pointed out that the motive here is to get kids into private schools, for one. But "this is not about private schools, but what's wrong with corporations running them anyway?" seems to be the gist of your argument. I don't get it. I do think corporations shouldn't be running schools. Period. They're fine for making the products we need/want/think we need most of the time, but when it comes to something as essential as the education of our children, I can't surrender that to people who are more concerned with profit than education -- we have already done this too much. As far as parents having choice of public schools, that's fine, but I can't help the feeling that we're just sweeping problematic schools under the rug and leaving the kids there behind. We should be doing our best to make all schools better for all kids, and it should be a selfless, whatever-it-takes kind of mission. -

Agreed. The only song on it that's moved me much is "City of Blinding Lights." That kind of jittery piano doubled with the guitar solo on that song sounds awesome. -
Don't say Merry Christmas!
RuntheDamnBall replied to Mediaman's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Must we go over this Newt Gingrich talking point again? 80-something percent of Americans celebrate Christmas. There is Christmas music, there are Christmas sales, there are Christmas decorations, everywhere. There are tons of Christmas specials and movies on TV. No one is making any of this stop, no one is taking down decorations. No one is forcing churches to remove nativity scenes. The idea that somehow there is less "Christmas" in our culture today because of political correctness is confounding. Whether the meaning of it has decayed is another issue, but that's one for the church to take care of, and not government. -
US kids getting hammered on Math and Science
RuntheDamnBall replied to Mickey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yeah, because "the market" has the best interests of children, and not profit, in mind. I'm sorry, our kids are already educated enough by Coca-Cola and General Motors. I'd like to move as far away from that as possible. Parents have control when the TAKE control, not because some magical corporation is going to help them do it. At least with the public system there is some semblance of accountability in electing school boards and higher-ups. When it becomes about placating shareholders, who's to say it's going to be any different than it is at your job, when they hand you a pink slip because it's the best thing for the bottom line? Private education is just another way to push a good education out of the reach of the masses. -

Steelers to sit most starters vs. Bills...
RuntheDamnBall replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I kind of thought that myself. Dumb thing to say, and I usually like Ward. If anyone thinks the Ravens aren't coming out guns blazing (or in Ray Lewis' case, wielding knives) they've got another thing coming.
