NFL awards 2013 Super Bowl to New Orleans
Tipster19 replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just saw this but I agree. -
I know the obvious reason is the weather factor but that hasn't stopped the conference championship games from being played in cold/inclement weather. Make it equal for ALL teams. I think that warm weather teams have a distinct advantage when it comes to playing in a controlled or warm climate. I know that it's useless to suggest it but some of the greatest games were played in cold weather. How great would it be for a city like Buffalo to host a Super Bowl? Add in that they are a small market and revenue like this would really boost their economy. I don't want to see the Bills become a dome team but that would be the only shot of them hosting such a game. It would take away our tradition and make us a different type of team. Teams like the Packers, Bears, Steelers, Browns and yes, the Bills have forged an identity for themselves as a cold weather team. Why should we change on who we are and also not be eligible for such an honor? We are all part of the same league, we should all be entitled to the same right and revenue. Cold weather teams and cold weather have contributed to what made the NFL. When the league talks about playing a Super Bowl overseas to globalize it just really flabbergasts me. It's an american game, keep it where it belongs and that is in the United States. Play it in ALL the cities that has a franchise instead of letting other countries earn this money. Our country is on hard economic times, how about keeping the money in house and helping out the country that MADE you the conglomerate that you are?

How good were the 1990's Bills?
Tipster19 replied to FightinIrishBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, I don't think that they should have thrown it as much as they did. I also think that the Bills' coaching staff should have been as prepared as the Giants but they weren't and to try and change their gameplan during the game would have also been disasterous. To think that you can flip flop your offense during a game when you already had a strategy isn't realistic. I don't have a problem admitting that we were outcoached during that game but I wouldn't blame the player(s). They did a decent job of executing what they were given for a gameplan, that's why the game was as close as it was. I also believe that the partying leading up to the game didn't help matters either, that does fall on the player(s). No, I said that that was what they were willing to concede. They did not want Kelly & Co tearing them up. They took away part, and a big part it was, of our offense and made it more one dimensional. Kelly's stats were modest to say the least and Thurman's stats were great. What does that tell you? It tells me that the Giants weren't going to allow the passing game to beat them and it didn't. I'm not naive, nor the Giants, enough to think that the Giants were going to completely shut down our high octane offense but they instead opted to take away the most dangerous part of it and keep the clock ticking. It worked, deal with it. -
I can hear it now, if the season unravels this year then we can make all kinds of excuses from Belichek cheating to our inept FO and now the newest and safest one, TO. I hope I am wrong but I'll tell you what is more tiring than missing the play-offs and clawing to be a .500 team and that is the whining and complaining from the fans. We want to find a scapegoat everytime we are unsuccessful each year but if there were no football team in Buffalo at all then how would you feel then? I'd like to see a fresh approach this year not just from our FO, organization and team but even more from our fanbase. Appreciate what we have. We are one of 32 cities to have a NFL franchise in the WORLD! Go Bills!

Currently but not permanently. Sadly I have to admit this is accurate but things are subject to change and I believe that we are improving, much thanks to Russ Brandon, and the gap is narrowing. While we are improving the level of our talent also add in the factor of Belichick being a little bit more monitored by the commissioner/league and one can really start being hopeful of seeing this domination nearing towards an end. Optimisticly I'm looking for two very competitive games out of the Bills against the Patriots OR a split with them, regardless of what the outcome would be in the loss. If either scenario were to unfold then I think that this would be a quantum leap for the Bills and I would really be looking forward to having the next few years having quite a different outcome then what the last several years have provided in this rivalry.

I agree. That contributed but mostly the Giants' gameplan prevailed. -

Sorry, I didn't see it that way. The Giants (Parcels & Co aka Bill Belichick) saw enough of the K Gun offense in the earlier regular season game and adjusted their gameplan for it in Super Bowl XXV. What worked for the Bills in the regular season didn't work for them in the Super Bowl. When your offense runs efficently all season and then gets shut down in the course of a game then it's too late to go to another gameplan during that game. Thurman gained those yards because that's what the Giants were willing to concede. This strategy took time off the clock and kept the Bills from scoring like a pinball machine, like they were doing all season long. That Super Bowl had to be played one of two ways. Either the Bills were going to explode on points and force the Giants' plodding offense to try and keep up with them or the Giants were going to slow the game down and keep Buffalo from making explosive plays/scores. Take a guess on who's gameplan prevailed? -

They were the class of the AFC and throttled more than their fair share of the NFC. I'm calling BS on this one. Earlier in 1990 the Bills played AT the Giants with Bill Parcels leading them and the Bills would have blown them out of the water if not for Kelly getting hurt early in the first half. They still won the game but by a small margin in a rather low scoring game for the Bills. Ultimately I believe that playing that game landed up costing the Bills a Super Bowl victory because Parcels & Co were better prepared for the K Gun offense the second time around. -

I found some these to be pretty interesting. There are 20 quotes, give your answers listed 1-20. I'll post the answers tomorrow but test yourself on how many you can get right without looking them up. Enjoy. 1.) "If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother." 2.) "The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur." 3.) "Football is like life, it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority." 4.) "Thanksgiving dinners take 18 hours to prepare. They are consumed in 12 minutes. Half-times take 12 minutes. This is not coincidence." 5.) "I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first." 6.) "The road to Easy Street goes through the sewer." 7.) "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog." 8.) "I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid." 9.) "In Montana, they renamed a town after an all-time great, Joe Montana. Well, a town in Massachusetts changed their name to honor my guy Terry Bradshaw--Marblehead." 10.) "I've been big ever since I was little." 11.) "Hey, Warren, the Raiders signed you to a seven-year deal. I guess Bill Callahan was right --- they are the dumbest team in America." 12.) "I didn't quit football because I failed a drug test, I failed a test because I was ready to quite football." 13.) "I'm a firm believer that all sports will eventually be global. Someday, we may have a quarterback from China named Yao Fling." 14.) "I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault." 15.) "If you're mad at your kid, you can either raise him to be a nose tackle or send him out to play on the freeway. It's about the same." 16.) "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." 17.) "Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein." 18.) "I feel like I'm the best, but you're not going to get me to say that. " 19.) "I wouldn't ever set out to hurt anyone deliberately unless it was, you know, important -like a league game or something." 20.) "We can't run. We can't pass. We can't stop the run. We can't stop the pass. We can't kick. Other than that, we're just not a very good football team right now."

Jason Taylor back to the fins
Tipster19 replied to buffaloaggie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't take it that way. I got a lot of respect for Taylor. He loved being a Dolphin and money wasn't the issue with him. Matter of fact he told his agent that he he wanted to sign with Miami regardless of what they were offering and to go tell the Dolphins whatever fits their budget, that he's ready to play. His agent Gary Wichard said. "There were no negotiations. It was always going to be Miami." He never wanted to wear another team's uniform, how can you not like a guy like that? -
How great of a player was Jason Taylor?
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, Schobel has produced numbers like that in the past. In 2003, 2005 and 2006 he had some very good sack totals. Having Maybin compliment him on passing downs should be very interesting for the Bills this year, we might be seeing some turnovers from our pass rushers for once. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=2594 -
Seeing that Maybin resembles Taylor the most as far as his build and speed, can Maybin produce a stat line like this for us in the years to come? I had to edit due to an inaccurate title. I didn't fully investigate his career stats and in 2002 Taylor had a huge year in sacks with 18 1/2. I thought he had more sacks than 13 1/2 in one year. One can only hope that Maybin has a similiar career as Taylor's, the guy was a beast and probably a HOFer. Here's his career stats. http://www.nfl.com/players/jasontaylor/profile?id=TAY338550

He has, and in that game especially, had teams that have played gritty at times. He's a class act as a person and other than Bills' fans I haven't heard anyone else ever say anything derogatory about him. All the players that I ever heard comment about him had nothing but praises to say about him. Take it for what it's worth but when I met Hargrove awhile back he couldn't say enough good things about him. I'm wondering, what did this guy do that has so many fans pissed? Is it because he blew a few calls last year? I think that everything should be evaluated before drawing a final conclusion. What I mean by this is the guy might have tried to coach out of his comfort zone because of the level of players that he has. This doesn't excuse or justify him but it might help shed some understanding to what may have happened last year in those couple of games. We can run him out of town but that doesn't mean that we're going to replace him with a Cowher or a Shannahan. There is always the realistic possibility that we end up with a Gregg Williams or a Mike Mularkey. For some of the older fans around here it could also be a Kay Stephenson or a Hank Bullough, we got that kind of capability in our decision making.

I agree with your assessment. It seems to me that there is a vast majority of fans who want to cling to his inequities and don't want to recognize any of his attributes. That MNF game against Dallas was a huge testiment of a greatly undermanned squad playing against a Goliath. It's too bad that it slipped away at the end. I believe that jauron will stick to more of his strong suit and not gamble in a pressure situation. I'm not calling for a completely conservative gameplan but instead I'm expecting for him to take a couple of calculated shots down the field at oppotune times during the course of a game. Btw, it's nice to see Edwards and Evans slated to appear at the Toronto-Yankee baseball game on May 14. Remember when Evans denounced Edwards as his QB? It's good to know that these two are forming a bond. I'm expecting Evans to be the break out receiver for this team instead of TO.

Breakout Team Predictions for 2009
Tipster19 replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, I'll play this game. Here's my 3 break out teams for 2009. I think that New Orleans has a shot of being in the NFC Conference title game. They paid an awful lot of attention to the defensive side of the ball from hiring Greggo, loading up the secondary and having an offense that can put up a bunch of points at any given time. Last year's record was 8-8 with half their losses coming against division rivals (2-4). Their division is ripe for the taking with Tampa, and Atlanta to a certain degree, in transition. Carolina is the biggest obstacle but a split with them is very realistic. I'm predicting a 13-3 record for 2009. Here comes the Raiders! I don't know about play-offs but if they can improve on last year's 5-11 record to a winning one for the 2009 season then that's a victory in itself. They have been playing good defense the last couple of years and the kid () that everybody laughed at on ESPN during the draft will have egg on their face once again because he's a great fit in Raider Nation. If Russell can't be physically fit and produce this year then Garcia will. Say what you want but that ex-CFLer is a fiery little guy will bring more than his share of competitive juices to that inept offense. A wild card berth is not out of the question for this sleeper but I'm not sure if a 9-7 record gets it done. As long as Singletary can keep his pants on I'll pull for the San Francisco 49'ers to threaten for the title in a division that is vunerable. I think that QB Shaun Hill is going to settle down and solidify his position and lead this team to double digit victories. The first year that Frank Gore was a 49'er he walked out to the parking lot after a loss and saw the rest of the San Fran players going on about their business like it was no big deal. He cried. Gotta love the heart of this guy. I can't think of any current player who has overcomed more injury, adversity and heartache than this guy and for that alone this player provides his team with 3 wins by himself. Good bye to 7-9 and hello to 11-5 and the NFC West crown. -

This is probably the most comprehensive evaluation that I could hope for. Thanks for contributing your input, it was well thought out, accurate and a most refreshing perspective, unlike a lot of the venom that splews around here on a daily basis.
