BTW, I have no interest in the Union wage issue, but pointing out that people who are under the impression that doormen do little more than open doors are wrong. A doorman is a jack of all trade job and people who live in high rise buildings pay a bit more in rent to have such a person working for them, and that person's wage is rightfully more than a parking garage attendant. And further, losing that person's services is inconvenient. Imagine if all the babysitters went on strike. Could the world get by? Yes. Would it be a huge inconvenience? Double yes. A doorman strike would have been like that for millions of people.
