Thats fair. Look at the CBs the Bills have. Film shows he can play. Needs reps. Overrated how? He’s one of the best at not allowing separation. One of the best in the NFL.

The guy was naming Hill and Waddle and Chase and Higgins and the 49ers many high priced weapons. AJ Brown and Smith. Thats just crazy. The only real beef about failing Allen would be 2022 when they failed replacing Beasley in the slot and the OL was below average.

He’s never going to have those weapons unless the Bills get really lucky in the draft. He needs a true primary target, true secondary target, and a solid OL. Diggs - primary Kincaid - secondary OL - solid They do need to replace Diggs soon and that’s where they need to draft well.

Micah Hyde. It’s very common. Need to be able to tackle though. Thats why most believe Tre White can’t play safety. He’s a terrible tackler.

Allen has had weapons. Let’s not act like he hasn’t. The offense has been one of the best. People act like they are one of the worst. They have a hole at WR. They will fill it with a talented WR.

He got cooked in the Jags game. He wasn’t right most of the year. Coaches and teammates talked about what he was dealing with injury wise. But please stop saying he’s bad because Benford is better. Benford is one of the best CBs in the NFL. Dane Jackson is a pro. He started a lot of games for McDermott. He trusted him. Elam is a player the Bills have to find out about. He has definitely been inconsistent, I won’t argue against that. But he hasn’t been all bad.

Benford is a beast. Not solid. He’s a beast. Lockdown. One of the best lockdown CBs in the NFL. Douglas had an amazing season last year. But again, I think our defense would be better having Elam and Douglas on the field at the same time. The best way to do that is moving Douglas to safety. He’s a ball hawk. Let him roam around. He could be one of the best safeties in the NFL immediately. It’s not anything new to him as Douglas to safety has been the talk of his career, even early last year. Yes, he had his best season in the NFL last year, I know.

He has earned the right to play in multiple ways. First he was drafted 23rd overall. He earned that by showing the Bills he was worth the pick. Then when he plays he makes plays. I’m not going to argue if he’s better or worse than Douglas or Benford. That’s a silly argument. Those guys are good players. You don’t move a good 24 year old CB on a rookie deal to S, so Benford isn’t moving. Douglas makes perfect sense being 30 next year. It will prolong his career. He can be an impact safety for multiple years. They could go outside in UFA and sign a safety and leave Elam on the bench for his whole career. But I think Douglas has everything you want in Hyde’s replacement. So slide him to that spot. He’s 30. Give him a nice extension suitable to a 30-31 year old good CB, he won’t break the bank. I would also release Poyer and sign someone like Jeremy Chinn. Now your DBs and LBs are set for next few years.

I think safety is one of the most important positions on a McDermott defense. I’m sliding Douglas right into Hyde’s spot. A lot of chatter about redoing White’s contract to lower salary and cap with an extension.

Why do people care where Douglas plays? He’d likely be the new Hyde. Hyde lines up at multiple positions during games. Douglas wouldn’t be coming off the field in this scenario. Elam is a starting CB. He needs to play. He’s our number 4 CB because the Bills have had 4 starting boundary CBs. They need to play their 1st round pick. They didn’t draft him to be depth. He has elite #1 CB ability. He’s a man CB.

Why? Because they spent a 1st round pick on a CB that is good and needs to play. And Douglas is 30 with position flexibility and we want him on the field.

You’re getting names mixed up. Douglas is 30 next season with a year remaining. The extension I suggested for Douglas was 2 years $25 million. Thats in line with what good 30 year old CB’s get. So he’s not getting low balled. Safety is an important position on the Bills and Douglas could slide into Hyde’s role. Douglas is more of a zone CB. Bills look to want to switch to more man.

Benford isn’t moving. Douglas is 30 with 1 year left. Extension could be similar to what he’s making now. If the Bills are trying to play more man in 2024 it makes sense.

The defense is set for rebuild. Everyone hoping for heavy offense aren’t really paying attention to the roster. Yes they will draft WR but expect most of the draft picks to be defense. They will build the defense around Oliver, Rousseau, Bernard, and Benford. Milano and Johnson I believe get extensions and stick around into their 30’s. DaQuan Jones I think gets re-signed also and will be part of the new over 30 club with Milano and Johnson. Edge is a position of concern moving forward on defense. I don’t know exactly what they do there. It would be nice to hit on someone in the draft to pair with Rousseau. I know fans are tired of drafting edge in the 1st-2nd but it’s a premier position of need for the Bills. Now and the future. Im not too worried about safety because they aren’t very expensive in free agency if we need to go that route.

Tasker knows something to say that. Douglas is the perfect candidate to switch to safety. Packers actually talked about doing it. Sign Douglas to an extension and then switch him to safety. Sign Douglas to maybe a 2 year extension around $20-25 million.

You can see it. Look at the contracts. Allen, Diggs, White, and Miller eat the majority of the future cap. Allen will get an extension, which will lower his cap hits significantly for many years. Diggs, White, and Miller will likely be off the roster by 2026. Ideally you replace Diggs with a rookie contract over the next 2 drafts. WR1 is the position I’m worried about replacing over the next 2 years. They really have to hit on a WR this year or we might be trying to find one in free agency or trade and that will cost a lot of cap plus draft picks if we trade for 1.
