I don't care about Ty Dunne and I think it's pretty obvious that he is writing hit pieces on McDermott because it's good for business.

But I will say I think you can summarize McDermott as a head coach with one play - giving the ball to Hamlin on a fake punt in a critical moment of a playoff game. That is who McDermott is. He makes decisions that are safe and comfortable and warm. He makes decisions rooted in emotion and a misguided belief in destiny. That's nice for the Disney channel. For the National Football League it's a joke. I don't want a coach that thinks he's the star of a feel good sports movie. I want a coach that understands he's going to war.

Not a huge McD fan, but this reads like you have been huffing paint. 😮

Bill is an awesome coach and I can respect what he’s managed to achieve during his tenure with the Patriots.

However, I don’t know how I’d feel if we hired him. Would be a sour taste if we hired him and never ended up winning a SB under his guidance.

I agree that we better get a golden fiddle if we are gonna make a deal with that particular devil.

CBS should bring him in as a color commentator to pair with Ian Eagle.

He'd be the Sling Blade of announcers.

Sorry but this new age horse manure doesn’t appeal to me.

Do they get to stop going to school because they don’t want to? Why force them, right? They may end up resenting you!

Do they get to be an a-hole to their parents because they want to? Can’t force them not to after all… don’t want that resentment.

I know a sports team is not the same seriousness level as either of these examples but the foundational and core principles are the same. You make a commitment, you stick to it. Loyalty and other morals are taught - they’re not naturally ingrained.

Im not saying you force the kid to sit in front of the TV every Sunday and watch, but if they ask you if they should switch teams the answer IMO is “You don’t give up just because the road is tough”. What he/she does with that answer is up to them. But you shouldn’t advise them to give up, or give them an answer that condones the potential of changing teams just because things are difficult right now.

Thwn why bring up the dlfalse equivalence of school in the first place? But read the top post of this page, what I said actually happened to a fellow poster.  And I don't think the OP's question is about changing teams, it sounds like the kids doesn't want to be forced to watch football at all.

I told my kid he didn't have to root for the Bills if he didn't want to, but he stayed and he's still with me at the games or on the couch every week.  You don't like my way? Cool, but opinions are just that.

    For those who want a summary of what he is asking;

I'd like to hear your thoughts on a fatherhood moment. I have five boys, and my oldest, who's 13, asked if he can stop being a Bills fan. I encouraged them to be Bills fans since I'm from Buffalo, but he finds it upsetting now. He told his grandma to ask me because he knew it would hurt me. I'm not giving up on the team, but I need advice on talking to my boys about the season and being Bills fans. I believe in the team, and some changes are needed, like drafting new talent and maybe a new coach. One championship before I die, please.

My answer: I disagree with all the posters telling you to encourage him to root for whoever he wants. That’s lame sauce. Sometimes crap doesn’t work out. Sometimes in life we lose. But we don’t give up and we don’t stop being a fan just because things didn’t work out the way we wanted. We stick through it and keep our commitments to our team. Then give him a hearty GO BILLS.

The fact that the kid had to go to his grandmother makes me think this is bad advice. If you force a kid to do something they don't want to you may succeed for the short term but they will ultimately end up resenting you, the Bills or both.  Better to let them choose, imo.

If you think any one of the following three things: Mahomes ranks above Allen, McD is Marty, or that the 2023 Bills were always fools gold, the last 60 days were not worth posting. You were labeled a troll.

But Mikie, if you are spamming a Bill fansite with that nonsense, aren't you?

What about it 2 years ago? We blew it.

Last year we were paper tigers on both sides of the ball.

For the most part I was higher on this team at the back end of the year than either of those other two. This one hurt, but this wasn't a "McDermott was protecting his precious defense" game. The defense was a seiv and needed to be kept off the field,

Mahomes and co. didn't win by 4 because they took their foot off the gas. They lost by 4 because the Bills kept their possessions to a minimum with long sustained drives. I am confident that Buffalo wins that game fairly easily with a healthy Milano, Bernard, and Douglas.

I'd say they win with a healthy Bernard alone of those 3.

No, what’s gross is that for the last couple of months I have had to put up with people disrespecting me by very often doling out those insulting emojis on my posts, simply because I had a different opinion. So yeah, when it turns out I was right, you betcha I’m pleased that I was vindicated.

Now, this is not to say that I wanted the Bills to lose, or that I was not as big a fan as anybody….FOR 50+ YEARS….because I  didn’t and I AM. But I also can be objective about the Bills, while many in here cannot. This very thread illustrates the latter.

Have you considered that it's because of the way you conduct yourself here?  It's ok to be objective without being an a hole.

Going back and reading through this thread is quite interesting.

Bottom line: I am vindicated, while OTOH many others were so far off base that it's astounding.

Be a better Bills fan, Bob.  This is gross.

I've said it all season and I'll say it again, I was screaming for DeAndre Hopkins. He would've been a difference maker in this offense, and honestly we may have won the game last night if we had him. We have a very handicapped offense. Diggs is nowhere to be found the last 8 weeks

We win that game with Gabe Davis, in my opinion

do you realize that in the near future there will be many less jobs, especially working class jobs?  you want the uneducated to starve?

Actually,  the jobs that will be automated will likely include yours and mine. Who needs surgeons when a computer can do it far better?  There is certainly going to be a shift of how work is done, who does it and when.  But what that looks like is greatly up in the air.

Which party complains that they pay more taxes?  I believe there's a link in this thread showing a vast percentage difference in this regard.  so you are incorrect.

by takers, i mean the lazy robbers who are getting disability falsely or could easily work rather than living off food stamps, medicaid etc.  I presumed we were in agreement in resenting those people.  are we not?  from a pragmatic viewpoint it's cheaper to pay off even the scumbags than to deal with civil unrest, non?

There are certainly very poor and disabled thru no fault of their own.  I support a safety net for them as do more D's than R's nationally.

I think you'd be surprised how many Rs are happy to support people who truly can't help themselves, they just resent the myriad of wasteful D policies that incent people not to work.

And a great many of the sick takers r MAGAs while many of the givers r decent human beings

A great many of takers are poor people, regardless of their politics. This is mostly because they are poor in the first place.  Please don't be the scumbag tries to tie politics to health care usage.

And a great many givers are people that aren't poor and aren't democrats,  so stop your idiocy.
