Our draft is over, so here is my first look at 2024 roster. I included 9 rookies, I guess all of them have a good chance. I know a lot will change; this is just a projection for fun/discussion.

51 players already on the roster. I am pretty sure we add veteran WR through FA or trade, and I also think we will sign some cheap vet CB. I listed some other relevant players who did not make it.

What do you guys think? Rookies are in green.

    Offense (25)

    QB: Allen, Trubisky (2)

OT: Dawkins, Brown, Van Demark, Collins, Grable (5)

IOL: McGovern, Torrence, Edwards, Van Pran, Anderson (5)

WR: Coleman, Samuel, Shakir, FA/trade, Hollins, Shorter (6)

TE: Kincaid, Knox, Morris, Gilliam (4)

    RB: Cook, Davis, Johnson (3)

Not included – Doyle, Clapp, Clayton, Hamler, Isabella

    Defense (25)

DE: Miller, Rousseau, Epenesa, Solomon, Jonathan (5)

DT: Oliver, Jones, Carter, Johnson (4)

LB: Milano, Bernard, Williams, Ulofoshio, Spector, Morrow (6)

CB: Douglas, Benford, Elam, Johnson, Hardy, FA (6)

S: Bishop, Edwards, Rapp, Lewis (4)

Not included – Toohill, Williams, Ankou, Hamlin, Ingram

    ST: Bass, Martin, Ferguson (3)

A few things I disagree with here:

    - I don't see us keeping 5 OT's. The number is always 4. Either Grable beats out Collins or he'll be released and we'll try to get him back on the Practice Squad. As a Late-6th Round Pick and our 8th Draft Pick, he's more likely to be cut than safe.

Everyone after the first 7 picks is essentially a UDFA that really has to earn their spot if in a crowded field (Hardy has the easiest path as they were 1 player thin there when we drafted him).

    - I don't see Toohill being released in favor of Jonathan. Jonathan lives on our Practice Squad and gets called up when we need him. While I like Jonathan, I think Toohill is the better player with more experience and production. There's a possibility we keep both, but if it comes down to it - I think it will be Toohill.

    - While I don't see us keeping 12 DL like last season, we'll be keeping more than 9. Specifically, I see us keeping 5 DT's (to go along with 5 DE's). DeShawn Williams will be here.

    - While Milano, Bernard, Williams, and Ulofoshio will be here, I'm not sure both Morrow and Spector will both be here. I think it will be one or the other.

    - I don't know if I see us signing a FA CB. I think we'll keep the 5 you listed. Cam Lewis was re-signed in large part for his flexibility to play both Safety and Corner. I think he'll be focusing on Safety. But if we have 2 CB's go down at either Boundary or Nickel, he'll come in there.

Other than that - good stuff!

Just based off production, give me Tyler Boyd: 1000+ yards in 2018 & 2019, 800+ yards in 2020 & 2021, 762 in 2022, and 667 in 2023. Seems a solid floor to me even if he is not the typical burner that would really balance out our WR room.

Tyler Boyd is a Pure Slot.

We don't need a Slot. We've got Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel (with some Outside Flexibility, but always a much higher percentage Inside), and Dalton Kincaid (a Big Slot that only sometimes lines up with his hand on the line).

We need another Boundary guy. The only true Outside guys we have there are Keon Coleman, Mack Hollins, and Justin Shorter. Shorter is a complete unknown and Hollins is more of a Blocker/Special Teams guy.

    A Coleman Comparison

    Keon Coleman (Combine) 6'3", 213, 321/8 arm, 9 3/8 hand, 4.61 40, 1.54 10, 38 vertical (drafted 33rd in 2024)

    Tee Higgins (Pro day) 6'4", 216, 34 1/8 Arm, 9.25 hand; 4.54 40, 1.66 10, 31 Vertical (drafted 33rd in 2020)

    Michael Pittman (Combine) 6'4", 223, 32.5 arm, 9.25 hand, 4.52, 1.51 10, 36.5 vertical (drafted 34th in 2020)

I would say Higgins and Pittman are pretty good comparisons to Coleman.  Hopefully he'll be as effective in the NFL.

As a rookie for Cinn, Higgins had 67 catches on 108 targets for 908 and 6 TDs.   In the next 3 years (Tee was hurt much of this past season) he has had about 2750 yards on 230 catches 18 TDS.

Pittman had 40 catches on 61 targets as a rookie for 503 yards and a TD.  In the 3 years since he has had over 3100 yards on nearly 300 catches with 14 TDS.

The time to yardage ratio in speed is interesting to me.

Tee Higgins for example ran a 4.52 in the 40. Keon Coleman ran a 4.61. Yet when it came to the 10 yard split - Coleman ran it in 1.54 while Higgins ran it in 1.66.

Subsequently, everyone's favorite WR Troy Franklin beat them both in the 40 by a good percentage at 4.41. But getting up to that top speed takes him longer than it does Coleman as he ran his 10 yard in 1.61.

Some guys reach their top speed faster than others. Coleman while lacking in long end speed, he reaches that top speed quicker than both of them - which makes up for a lot, getting off the line quicker.

While he ran a slow 40 - he was the fastest Gauntlet and ran it EXTREMELY smooth:

Everyone's focusing on the 40. But there's much more to the story than that. His play speed is very good.

I hit on 29 out of my top 30 WRs, only missing out on my #30 and honestly he'll probably do well in Detroit. I wrote a quick tier assessment below (undrelined and italicized) and bolded the team that drafted the WR.

Some things I noticed were most of my top ranked WRs went to teams with offensive minded head coaches with young QBs and/or teams with franchise QBs getting them more weapons. Some of these teams went back to the well multiple times and didn't even need to BUT because they understood how great a WR draft this was they took the value when it fell to them.

Tier 1 – Can’t Miss, pick your flavor, would be the top WR in most drafts and we get THREE of them this year.

    1.      Marvin Harrison – Arizona pick 4

    2.      Rome Odunze – Bears pick 9

    3.      Malik Nabers – Giants pick 6

We had no real chance to get these guys

Tier 2 – Late first round - Potential #1 WRs that still need a little refinement

    4.      AD Mitchell – Colts pick 52

    5.      Brain Thomas Jr – Jaguars pick 23

    6.      Troy Franklin – Broncos pick 102

Apparently we didn’t like either Mitchell or Franklin. Could’ve easily taken Franklin over Carter in the 3rd and I would’ve said we had a very good draft but we will soon see if I or our FO was wrong on Franklin

    Tier 3 – Special #2 options

    7.      Xavier Worthy – Chiefs pick 28 (we basically gave him to the chiefs)

    8.      Ladd McConkey – Chargers pick 34

I get why we passed when we did with what kind of WR we needed but didn’t realize we weren’t going to try and get a deep threat at all in this draft rich with them

Tier 4 – Potential #1 WRs with HUGE question marks that a lot of teams won’t take the risk on (I would because of the upside)

    9.      Jermaine Burton –  Bengals pick 80

    10. Tez Walker –Ravens pick 113

2 players with speed and upside we should’ve went after but the teams that got them understand that their franchise QBs need downfield weapons

Tier 5 – Good to Great #2 options that will go somewhere Day 2 of the draft (deepest part of the WR draft)

    11. Ja’Lynn Polk – Patriots pick 37

    12.  Ricky Pearsall – 49ers pick 31

    13.  Keon Coleman – Bills pick 33

    14. Xavier Legette – Panthers pick 32

    15. Roman Wilson – Steelers pick 84

    16. Brenden Rice – Chargers pick 225

    17. Javon Baker – Patriots pick 110

All solid #2 WRs like I said before. Very surprised Rice fell so far, maybe something will come out about him.

Tier 6 – A slot of talent, early day 3 guys

    18. Malachi Corley – Jets pick 65

    19. Ainais Smith – Eagles pick 152

    20. Malik Washington – Dolphins pick 184

Speed kills! Unless you’re buffalo then we just say nah thanks we “like what we’ve got at WR”.

Tier 7 – Best of the rest, Round 5-7

    21.  Johnny Wilson – Eagles pick 185

    22.  Luke McCaffrey – Commanders pick 100

    23.  Jalen McMillan – Bucs pick 92  - Speed, vertical threat we could've had in 3rd

    24.  Jamari Thrash – Browns pick 156

    25.  Jacob Cowing – 49ers pick 135

    26. Cornelius Johnson – Chargers pick 253

    27.  Bub Means – Saints pick 170 - Huge upside vertical threat could've had with one of our MULTIPLE 5th round picks

    28.  Ryan Flournoy – Cowboys pick 216

    29.  Tahj Washington – Dolphins pick 241 - Speed, vertical threat we could've had in the 7th

    30.  Isaiah Williams – Undrafted signed by Lions

Last thing I'll state because I can't hide my disgust on how we handled this great opportunity to improve our team with so many missed chances after the plethora of picks Beane used for players that will sit in back up rolls (but hey they're good character guys so neato...

I no longer trust Beane. I've given up on McD getting this team to the promised land and know it will only happen under him if Josh carries everyone on his back BUT I've always thought Beane will do his best to get the right players around Josh in spite of McD favoring his pathetic d year after year. This was an epic fail on his part. I don't care about his or anyone's ego. Who cares if Diggs said Josh can't win without a #1 WR. Who cares if you want to prove your lackluster picks in previous drafts are going to work out (Justin Shorter). What I care about is the Buffalo Bills winning a Super Bowl. What I care about is putting as much talent around the best player this franchise ever had to give him the best chance to succeed. And my final point is...Josh Allen is very intelligent. You keep giving him the scraps and expecting him to superman it year in and year out, he will leave. We won't have anyone else to blame but ourselves because he won't say anything. It's not his job to say what he wants. It's the owner and FO's job to make the right decisions and they are failing miserably since the 13 second melt down.

Hopefully KJ Hamler works out as the deep threat. Coleman seems like a good kid and will be a fun Higgins type. Shakir and Samuel will do a good job in the middle and Kincaid will get better year two. I just hope it's enough. Maybe one day we'll over do it on the offensive side of the ball like we over do the defense year in and year out without success.

    Go Bills

I mean no offense, but I wouldn't consider the players on your list simply being Drafted as being a "hit". I think most of us who did work on these guys could tell that the guys who were Drafted were going to be Drafted somewhere. I would count the "hits" as players being taken where you placed them.

There's a disconnect between how you viewed a number of these prospects and how the league as a whole viewed them. A number of guys weren't Drafted near where you had them ranked - whether they were Drafted higher than you had them or lower than where you had them.

Granted, teams have way more information than you and I do. Character, work ethic, and medical come into play just as much as the tape itself.

So, just aggregating the posts above and adding in comp picks, expected 2025 draft picks as of today:

    1st round (1)

    2nd round (2)

    3rd round (1)

    4th round (3)

    5th round (2)

    6th round (2, possibly 3)

    Wow

He's incorrect on a Comp Pick in the 6th. That was projected for Dane Jackson's contract with the Panthers but was cancelled out by the Curtis Samuel signing.

What we're looking at right now from what we had, what we moved, projected comp picks (from Spotrac's Comp Guy - who reported on the Dane/Samuel cancellation), and what we've acquired is as follows:

    Round 1

Round 2 (from Minnesota via Houston for Diggs)

    Round 2

    Round 3

    Round 4

    Round 4 (from Chicago for 2024 5th)

Round 4 (Projected Comp for Davis)

Round 5 (Projected Comp for Floyd)

    Round 6

Round 6 (from NYG for Basham and 2025 7th)

Conclusion - there are no UDFA WRs to get excited about. There is one guy on that list and he sucks.

Beau Brady I feel for. He tested poorly and probably ia sub optimal athletically for the NFL. But the kid can play. Hope he gets a shot somewhere. He will compete his ass off.

35 Wide Receivers were Drafted. A really high number - but that speaks to the kind of class it is. I agree though, what's left after those 35 is uninspiring.

I'm shocked that Leonard Taylor went undrafted. He was projected as a 3rd rounder on a lot of draft sites.

I'm more surprised by Gabe Hall going unlocked.

Taylor reportedly BOMBED the Pre-Draft process. I was hearing of him careening down Draft boards weeks ahead of the Draft.

Beane got a version of Kelvin Benjamin with work ethic and thinks that’s all he needs

Stop it. Coleman is more than Kelvin Benjamin. I know you preferred others over him - but you're being hyperbolic and extremely unfair of how he was viewed by the team, Josh Allen, and many experts as a whole.

Coleman is WORLD'S more athletic than Benjamin. He knocked literally everything out of the park save for timed speed. He was the highest rated WR available on Friday's ESPN big board. Just because you preferred others doesn't make him Kelvin Benjamin.

I warned you all offseason that you were being too unrealistic and over the top with what you were hoping for. The hissy fit you've been spamming over multiple threads all weekend is getting tiring.

  11. Well, let's review:

We lost Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, Deonte Harty, and Trent Sherfield.

We gained Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, and Mack Hollins. We also have Justin Shorter ready to roll off Red Shirt.

In my eyes, Coleman replaces Davis, Samuel replaces Harty, and Hollins replaces Sherfield.

However, if Beane is to be believed, he feels Coleman is a #1 right out of the gate. That's lofty expectations for a Rookie - so I'll believe that's their plan when I see it.

If they plan on using Samuel as an exclusively Outside WR (which would also be surprising), I suppose he could replace Davis and Coleman replaces Diggs. With Shakir and Kincaid working the middle of the field.

That's not as unequipped as everyone likes to think it is. Though I'd be surprised if we didn't add someone - at the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

I think they want all 4 of those guys to get as much opportunities as possible. Especially Coleman, Kincaid, and Shakir. Adding someone else would take away from them and I could see a scenario where he doesn't want that.
