It's really looking like defense at 28 is where the value will be. Depending on the next 8 picks...I don't see how defense isn't at the top of Brandon's board when the time comes.

I mean, it depends. If Verse, Arnold, and Mitchell go before 28 and BTJ is there - I would argue that Newton and DeJean are the next best Defensive players and either on par or rated lower than BTJ.

Could we see a Terrence Marshall type of injury slide for him?

Ugh. This coming off reports of AD Mitchell being Diabetic and requiring extra attention because of it. If both are true and teams are dropping them off the board in Round 1, that takes the only 2 WR's after the Big 3 with a sure 1st Round grade off the board.

Here's hoping both are overblown or smokescreens being put out in hopes of one of them dropping.

    Joe B from The Athletic:

    7. Buffalo Bills (from Titans*): Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

    Titans trade Nos. 7 and 106 to Bills for Nos. 28, 60, 133, 160 and a 2025 first-rounder.

General manager Brandon Beane did his best last week to say he doesn’t think wide receiver is a glaring hole, but with only Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins as their top three, logic screams otherwise. Beane stressed last week that he wants receivers who are “smart, selfless and versatile,” and that perfectly sums up Odunze, who has the talent to be Josh Allen’s long-term No. 1 receiver. He also has the leadership the Bills covet and the versatility to start at X receiver but play across the formation. Having Minnesota’s potentially early 2025 second-round pick next year helps Beane justify sending away a major asset like their 2025 first-rounder. — Joe Buscaglia

Interesting that Joe B had us moving up to #7 previously for Nabers.  Now it’s Odunze

I think he probably thought about it and realized Nabers falling to 7 is unrealistic. It would require 4 QB's going in the Top 5 plus another team taking a player than the highest rated player on the board at a position of need for them. I would be shocked if either Harrison or Nabers were on the board at 7. Between Arizona, Los Angeles, and New York - at least 2 of those teams are going to take WR or trade out to someone who will.

Gentle reminder that the 6th WR off the board is not necessarily the 6th best WR in the draft

Of course. The 20th WR in the Draft could end up being the best. But when you have the kind of WR core we have right now, it's possible (if not likely) that there's someone he wants to secure that is considered a safer bet and has better tools to succeed right away.

The hole is so glaring (regardless of what Beane says) that it's possible there's multiple teams underneath us that are thinking of hopping ahead of us if we stand pat. And as good as this class is, there's only so many that are considered 1st Round talents. Maybe even less than we think if the stuff about Mitchell's health and habits are true.

  5. Trading up is a no brainer, if not a necessity, unless we want to settle for, at best, the 6th WR off the board.

Thomas will be gone by 28. And anyone underneath us that is interested in a WR is going to jump ahead of us because they know we're going to take one and quite possibly their "guy".

The question is - is it an "aggressive" trade up they're hearing about or simply "aggressively" trying to move up any number of slots?

I’d rather go get MHJ to be honest. I’m not as high on Jefferson as most for whatever reason. Although he’s still 24 so that’s a plus

The CTESPN thing is a rumor of Herbert to the Vikings

I don't know what's more ridiculous - the idea that the Vikings are going to trade the best WR in Football at age 24, following them letting their QB walk to ensure they have enough money to keep him....

Or saying you prefer a Draft Prospect who hasn't played a down in the NFL over the proven best WR in the NFL.

But they just signed Gabe Davis 🤣

And they were trying to retain Calvin Ridley after they signed Davis and lost him.

They do have Gabe Davis, Zay Jones, Devin Duvernay, and Christian Kirk in the Slot. So it's possible they go elsewhere and wait on WR.

But with them seriously trying to retain Ridley and not being able to get it done, i'd assume they're still looking for a bigger piece alongside Davis than Zay.

Don't we have another thread with this same insane suggestion? If you're going to post a crackerdog take, the least you can do is be original.

I think this is the first Trade Josh thread. But there is a Trade Milano thread on Page 1 and a Trade Dawkins thread recently. 'Tis the time of the year when everyone gets obsessed with Draft Prospects, convinces themselves they're going to be the best players to ever suit up at their position based on watching YouTube highlight reels, and wants to trade literally anyone and everyone to try and get them.

EDIT: Oh, no, you're right. There is another Trade Josh thread on Page 1. Dear Lord.

1 rd. Trade the this 28th and our 2025 2nd to Jax for their 17th and draft Brian Thomas Jr. LSU WR. No surprise here.

2 rd. 60th Jermaine Burton Alabama WR. Numbers don’t jump out because of bad quarterback play. 6 feet 196 pounds with 4.45 forty speed. 38 inch vertical 11 foot broad jump. Excellent downfield receiver. Particularly on the sidelines.

4 rd. 128th Braelon Allen Wisconsin RB. 6 foot and 1 inch and 235 pounds of muscle. Bruising back who would be a very good compliment to James Cook. Also ran a 4.40 forty at the combine typical workhorse Wisconsin running back style.

4 rd. 132nd Tykee Smith university of Georgia safety. Doesn’t have ideal height at 5 foot 10 but has a solid built weighing in at 206 pounds. Ran a 4.46 forty at the combine. Recorded for an interceptions and a senior year at Georgia.

The rest of the draft picks might be used for trade ups or just  best player available at this point. I thought about using the second round from this year, the third round from next year and the fourth round for this year to trade up to the end of the first for Troy Franklin, but thought against it.

I don't think our 2nd next year is enough to get to get from 28 to 17. And if Thomas makes it to the Jaguars, the Jaguars are probably just going to take him. The feeling around Thomas is that we'd have to get ahead of the Jaguars to ensure him.

    14. Brian Thomas Jr

    33. Xavier Legette

    (60, 160, 2025 2nd, 4th)

    Because why not

Because we're spending 7 picks (1st, 3 2nd's, 2 4th's, and a 5th) for two guys? None of which considered greater than WR4 in the Draft.

As much as I like Legette and Thomas, I don't know if I'm giving up 28 and 60 AND both 2nd's next year (including one most likely in the Top 10) without walking away with someone like Odunze.

    Let’s go! Don’t let the 4.7 40 fool ya

He is one of 3 RB's we reportedly met with at the Combine too (the other two being Braelon Allen and Frank Gore Jr.)

As for the 40, he improved it quite a bit at his Pro Day - running a 4.58 there. Not sure if he was dinged up, had bad starts, or just wasn't trained in track running. But a .12 (even if it doesn't seem like much) difference is a big improvement in a 40 time.

Allen is the guy I  like. In 2022 and 2023 Allen was considered the centerpiece of Wisconsin's offense. He was heralded as the next Wisconsin stud running back. Bigger more powerful runner but plenty of athleticism. When the Badgers switched to the spread this year it took them awhile to get the offense going. So a little more underrated than what we likely would have seen if they didn't go thru such a huge offensive transition.

Schrader is also hard not to like. Strikes me a process guy thru his bones. He was durable for Mizzo. Great pass catcher as well. I watched his entire performance vs the Volunteers and he stole the show. Impressive what he was able to do against the SEC.

Braelon Allen Wisconsin.   I say take him in the 4th and let him pound the crap outta people.

Yeah, i'm really big on Braelon Allen too. I think he's the perfect compliment Back to James Cook. But he's definitely not a Round 5-7 guy IMO. The problem with him is the area I see him going is between our 2nd Pick at 60 and our next pick. I have him as a Mid 3rd - Mid 4th Round Prospect. Small chance he's there at 128 and if he's there, i'd hope we'd take him. The good news is that he's one of only 3 RB's we met (that was reported, there could be more that we don't know about) at the Combine (the other two being Audric Estime and Frank Gore Jr.)

You're consistently making rational points. Very happy to read your rebuttals.

I just don't think 2 FUTURE 2nds and a current 4th and 5th/6th comes even close to enticing a team at 8 to fall back to 28. It's gonna cost a 1st next year in addition to one of those 2nds, and/or a 2nd this year in addition to those 2nds. (You've even allowed for that 1st next year already, if necessary, so we're not really disagreeing much.)

There isn't an exact baseline for the trade. As the two big trades that are used as a basis are moves to 6 and 10. This is to 8. But to review:

    2011 Trade from 27-6:

    1st, 2nd, and 4th in 2011

    1st and 4th in 2012

    2017 Trade from 27-10:

    1st and 3rd in 2017

    1st in 2018

So a move from 28-8 should be less than the 2011 Trade, but more than the 2017 Trade.

    My proposal was:

    1st, 4th, 5th, and 5th in 2024

    2nd and 2nd in 2025

    Or

    1st, 4th, 5th, and 5th in 2024

    1st in 2025

    Again, If the 21 picks from 27 to 6 was two 1sts, a 2nd, and 2 4ths - moving 20 picks from 28 to 8 needs to be less.

    Maybe it should be:

    1st, 4th, and 5th in 2024

    1st and 3rd in 2025

This would be more than the Two 1sts and a 3rd cost in the Mahomes trade to 10 and less than the Julio Jones trade to 6.

I may or may not pay that price for Odunze. But in the insane scenario that either Harrison or Nabers were there - I think I'd do it. Especially with the extra picks we have this year, the extra 2nd from Diggs next year, and the projected 4th and 5th comp picks for Davis and Floyd next year.

That would still leave us with:

    Pick 8 in Round 1, Round 2, Round 4, Round 5, Round 5, Round 6, Round 6, and Round 7 this year

    Round 2, Round 2, Round 4, Round 4, Round 5, Round 6, and Round 6 next year.
