My take...Crowell practiced through training camp to try and get an extension done. If the Bills did one, he would gone as far as he could this season, and had surgery when the knee gave. He got no extension, figured might as well look out for me and scheduled the surgery, figuring he could come back in 2-4 weeks. Bills got pissed and put him on IR, a petulant move. In the NFL, I begrudge no player for trying to take care of himself in the world of non-guranteed contracts. Did Crowell look after himself...yes, after he showed up and played good soldier. Did the Bills potentially screw themselves for weeks 4-17...yes. Bad move for the Bills.

Also, no sponsors = no prize money. Its in the players best interest to comply.

I always order my steak medium rare, sometimes with a little tartare as an app. I eat out a lot. I have never had my request turned down.

I've never heard of a place that would not cook the meat the way the custoemr wants it (except Peter Lugers, they will not serve a well done steak). This is odd. I do avoid these chain restaurants like the plague, however.

The real funny thing will be if Rodgers is the next Todd Collins....I can see the following exchange in December 2008... You mean we pushed out Brett freakin' Favre, who had a decent 2008 season, in a brand new offense, for the [insert name of team he is dealt to] for Aaron Rodgers??? What were we thinking? We were 2-3 plays away from the Super Bowl the year before and we don't take Favre back to give Aaron Rodgers a shot? What does Thompson think...great NFL QBs just grow on trees? When the econoy is teetering on implosion, gas prices are at record highs and the war in Afghanistan is escalaing, I think the house has more important things to worry about. Chef called it right...childish.

My guess is he finishes this year with 255/365/55/145/590/210 Serious numbers indeed...numbers unlike any other major league player (except perhaps Josh Hamilton this year) has put up over the same time period.

The real problem with the models was that they assumed that default/foreclosure would be a localized event (loans would fail in one place, but not nationally). The models never accounted for the risk of national default/foreclosure. The securities were structured in the same way. For example, lets say you were a hedge fund, that wanted to beef up its cash every December. You could purchase a tranche of mortgages that only included December payments. And, then lets say that you believed your model, that repayment risk was localized, so you ensured your tranche was comprised of loans made all over the country. And lets say you didn't think you needed the AAA piece, but bought the BBB piece, based on your model and because it was much cheaper. You could be screwed when the tranche itself hits ceratin events of default/foreclosure and the AAA piece gets paid first, you may get nothing off this rated security, let alone your promised cash flows.

I agree with you in certain situations, but power hitters tend to have more K's than other types of hitters.

I would guess it has something to do with the hundreds of millions he is worth, his worldwide fame....and, oh yeah, the accent. Women are suckers for aussie accents. I have a few Aussie friends here in NYC. Its actually quite funny when we go out. The pickup technique is just to stand near the bar in a crowded spot and start talking loudly, about nothing in particular. You should see the women flock when they hear the accent.

Howard needs to go back and work with Tony Gwynn, like he did in his MVP year. Gwynn had him balanced on his swing, and Howard was able to rake lefties. Ryan Howard will always have the power numbers, but to be a complete hitter, he needs to get back to the balanced swing that allowed him to hit .300. I discount the strikeouts, especially if he does the above. A strikeout is just another out.

See, now I have a problem with this. Burrell does NOT suck. He is a very solid MLB OF, who would bat 5th for every team in the league. He has a good batting eye (.400 OBP every year), good power (30-35 HR), and is not awful defensively. He had that one miserable stretch, a couple of years back, when he could not hit. He has since really turned it around. He does NOT suck, and 12 mil is not a bad salary for his ability.

True, but late (even by 90 days) is not yet foreclosed. You may still get paid at 90 days late with a workout provision. But I see both your and Bluefire's points, and it should be considered. Although I have heard that "late" as defined as 90 days, was a small, fractional number as well (at least 2 months ago, when I heard it).
