Kelsay isn't the cause of the piss poor play of the defense... he may be a contributor to a degree. But if the DTs were doing their jobs, we wouldn't be having this discussion. The DT play has been abysmal. Sam Adams wasn't benched because he was making plays and doing his job. And, the reason Mike Williams got dispatched to pine city was not because he was planting defensive linemen. Denney wasn't doing so hot till late last season. A lot of us were on his arse. Denney is a hard worker and seems to finally have gotten it... as I mentioned in my earlier post. Kelsay, likewise is a hard worker and in the middle of his 3rd season. If Jerry Gray or Malarkey thought Kelsay wasn't cutting the mustard, you'd see him on the sidelines in a heartbeat because Denney is more than up to the task of taking over for him right now.

You're right, we show no mercy. However, we have a much different scenario here. He showed so much promise in his rookie year that the Bills were willing to give up a receiver that just caught 90+ balls that season. Thus, the bar on Reed got raised significantly. Reed doesn't seem to have a problem getting open, it's catching the dang thing. Fans tend to frown on that when it happens repeatedly... thus he is rewarded for that accordingly. Kelsay, on the other hand just hasn't been ringing the sack bell enough. But, in fairness to him, his DT compadres suck... which means he can be doubled in passing situations to neutralize his pass russhing prowess. On the other hand, I don't think Reed has ever faced a double team. You also mention how Denney seems to be outplaying Kelsay... and there is definite evidence of that. Denney was a whipping boy up until the last half of last season and has a year up on Kelsay. It looks as though Denney has finally gotten it. Perhaps Kelsay is on the verge too. But the bottom line.... to compare Williams vs. Kelsay just aint the same thing. Kelsay's got game... Williams doesn't.

Here is the scoop... The window of opportunity for JP has just opened as wide as a hole up the middle of the Bills defense. He is the the Bills starting QB, period!!! The job is now his to lose. Personally, I don't buy the "Holcomb to miss significant time" spin. Yeah, he got dinged and had a concussion and probably shouldn't start this week. But, as far as how serious his injury is, we'll know that Sunday. If he's dinged that bad, he's either not in uniform, or, he's listed as the 3rd QB this week. I believe the coaches were looking for the opportunity to work JP back in, but careful not to outright bench Holcomb, because, afterall, he wasn't performing bad enough to warrant that. To bench Holcomb, JP would have needed to demonstrate, in a game, that he's ready for prime time and could provide a significant upgrade over Holcomb. I believe he did that on Sun.

The difference between Mike and Chris is, at least Chris goes "Balls out" and at least he's a hard worker. Eventually it will pay off... if not in Buffalo, someplace else. The Bills also, don't have anywhere near the investment in Kelsay that they have in Williams, so they could cut him tomorrow and not take much of a salary cap whack. Williams has way more starts than does Kelsay. When you're a top 5 pick, there are expectations. When you're a late 2nd rounder, there's a tendency to cut the guy a little more slack.

In addition, folks seem to forget the whuppin the bolts laid on the Pats a few weeks ago. Gray's defense likes to play Milloy up in the box. Well, if Gates is lined up on the same side as Milloy, you can bet that Milloy is going to have to honor Gates' receiving ability and back off on the run support to some degree.... OK if your facing a slug RB, but not Tomilinson. I fully expect the bolts to run it straight up the middle (where the Bills are most vulnerable)... just like they did against the Pats. It could be a long day...

What hype? I've heard a lot more about T.O., the Colts, and Tedy Bruschi than anything else. Who is the "Hyping" them?

You've got to admit it. The Pats seem to answer the bell when it comes down to "do or die". There ain't a Bills fan in existence that doesn't wish the Bills had the same resolve. It would add up to a lot of "W"'s and rings. Here you've got a team that is decimated, primarily in their secondary. What keeps them in the game is there front line and a couple of stud backers. (That's a subtle message to the Bills front office and a clue as to where they might want to spend their player $$$) On offense, you'd think they'd fall apart. I mean, Brady ain't any more mobile than Bledsoe, but a ton smarter. How can an oline protect him? Easy, Belechick's requirements when selecting the olinemen that he will employ. All he expects is that his olinemen want to play the game and are intelligent. His guys aren't that big, but because of their passion for the game and their intelligence, those 5 guys play as one. Trust me... there ain't one of em going to Hawaii. Lastly, the Pats are in a division that might be winable with a 7-9 record. It's possible, but I doubt it. More like 8-8. And, once the Pats are in the playoffs, they may get a few injured players back or the reserves may have become accustomed to playing. Couple that with the fact that Brady has never lost a playoff game, and I would not bet against them... no matter how much you hate em.

Except for Carolina, it looks OK to me... what exactly don't you like or think should be corrected. It seems everyone has power rankings out there. They all seem to be different. And, in the end, what does it really mean? So... to get you feeling a little better today, how about you throw us a bone and display the rankings according to how you see it. Whatever you end up with, I'm cool with.

Tell you what... when a TE catches 50 balls with this regime, come back and tell me how stupid I am. Until then, you're the one with egg on his face. TEs are an after thought with this staff and it ain't gonna change.

I wouldn't say career... he averaged about 33 snags/yr. with the bills and only once eclispsed 50 snags. I know Tommy Maddox ain't a hall of famer... and perhaps he knows it to. And perhaps he also knew throwing to Reimersma wasn't going make his offense put up points. So, maybe it wasn't because he was "unable" to hit Reimersma, maybe it was because they didn't have too many plays for the TE. Just as a reference, I'll bet you Mark Bruener didn't average 20 receptions a season with the Steelers. Malarkey's only coaching experience in the NFL was with Wyche and Cowher. Neither of those coaches have a history of integrating their TEs into a gameplan such that they would catch 50 balls a season. Even though Malarkey was a TE, how many balls did he ever catch? He was primarily a blocker. So, that's all Malarkey knows. So if you're expecting receptions from a Bills TE, grab a case load of snickers, cuz it ain't happening with this regime.

So, how many passes did rearsmegma catch in Pttsburgh? I have no clue as wo why they brought him in, but I know one thing, he wasn't thrown to much... which again, proves my point.

I feel so blessed and enlightened... as always Coates... Parcells always used the tight end as a big part of his offense, Bavaro, Mowatt, now a no name Whitten in Dallas. Gonzo... was drafted in the 1st round and was an instant star right out of the gate because, Marty, like Parcells, loves a TE down the field. If Gates hadn't emerged for Marty in SanDieg, he would have found someone else. So, the TE is not whether you fall into one or not... a good coach knows what one is and brings him in for the sole purpose of making him big part of the offense. The Billis drafted Euhus in the 3rd or 4th a year ago. For what? And, Neufeld? could he even make another NFL roster? When has Malarkey ever demonstrated a willingness to include the TE in his passing game... Bruener, Reimersma, Tuman... anyone? The TE in his offense has one purpose... to block. A designed play for a TE to be a primary receiver probably doesn't take up a full page in his playbook. PS, Lee Evens is a wr... so, I have no idea how he gets into this conversation.

I've got some questions for the faithful out there? Even if Everett plays this year, what impact will he have on this team? Once Everett is healthy next year, what will his impact be? My take is that Everett will have a minimal impact at best. The Bills could have Antonio Gates or Tony Gonzales line up at TE and it wouldn't make much difference because the TE is not considered a whole lot within this offense, save for blocking and dump offs. The Bills coaches wouldn't know what to do with a TE that could get down the field... except maybe keep him on the bench or cut him.

Thank you. Rare for this board... someone with a little objectivity. Some fans think Willis is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Why? I don't know. Perhaps because he's a Buffalo Bills RB and we're among a herd of Bills fans who can't opine objectively about the subject. To put Willis in a class with Jamaal Lewis, Edgerrin James, etc. after only about a season and a half of NFL play is simply ludicrous. He isn't a great one... at least not until he proves to be. The great ones don't get removed from the lineup on third downs, they block, they all catch 50 balls plus a season, and they break long runs. Willis can't lay claim to any of that. Right now Willis is one dimensional and he can be contained. Willis has annointed himself as the best back in football. Well, from where I'm sitting, he's got a lot of "blow" and not enough "show".

I can't remember the rowdiness at the Ralph being this bad since the late 70's and mid 80's. I certainly don't remember a lot of crap like this going down in the 90's, except for a Miami game. I wonder if there is a correlation to the quality of the team and wins vs. the losses. More fights when the team is not playing so well, vs. when they are. Now there's a stat to track. This kind of info could aid in security planning.
