I know it's really cool to bash Dane Cook, but I find him really entertaining. His Harmful if Swallowed and Retaliation albums are both outstanding. Bits like "Somebody sh-- on the coats!", "the BK lounge", and "the nothing fight" are never going to get old for me. The thing is, his act is that he's a storyteller, not the observational stuff that people have been doing for decades. I know technically Dane Cook isn't longing to be part of a bank heist with a monkey as the getaway driver, but the first time I heard him do that bit I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe. His ideas aren't groundbreaking; it's just a lot of stuff that's easy to relate to if you're about his age. But where he excels is the words he uses to express his ideas and his voice inflection along the way. He's a great performer. Dane Cook takes crap from other comediens because 1. he's WAY more successful than they are and 2. he's not a misearable human being like a ton of them are. It's amazing how many comediens are bitter losers just venting onstage.

Went to the Sabres Game last night

Is it Lindy Ruff's fault we have no team toughness? Is it Lindy Ruff's fault his players are too mentally weak to finish a game strong or even be ready to play big games? Is it Lindy Ruff's fault the heart of last year's team is playing in New York and Philly this year? Is it Lindy Ruff's fault he has only 1 NHL goalie on his roster? Is it Lindy Ruff's fault we don't have much of a scouting department anymore? Is it Lindy Ruff's fault we don't really have an AHL team anymore? Is it Lindy Ruff's fault our jerseys are a !@#$ing embarassment? That's a big "NO" seven times over. Ruff is a fantastic coach but the organization is going to hell from top to bottom because of Quinn and Golisano. As good as Ruff and Regier are, they can't compensate for the retarded things the team has been doing the past couple years. -

"What about escalation?" -
LOVED last night's episode. They even got Eliot Spitzer/Gov. McGreevy's tie right (and obviously Sheila Broflovski had the political wife look down). Was anyone not cracking up when they saw Kenny with a boob sword fight Kyle's dad with a boob axe?

It means molson is crashing and burning in his own thread again so he's going to have to start another one soon.

The only solid information I can get from the East Brady posts is that he has emotional problems. So he and Molson should work well together. -
Management did NOT have the "balls to change." They had the "balls" to dick around their two best players who split town. Yeah, way to go. And no one cared about Drury or Briere's plus-minus when they were leading us to the conference finals, so that's a moot point. And we're not a "feared" team. That's a joke. We're a crap team. The end. Teams that miss the playoffs and have no toughness or heart are not feared. The only people they scare are their own fans, who shell out hundreds of bucks for tickets and may not get a decent effort in return. The team isn't "mature" because they won't extend the contract of their veteran leaders. No mystery there. Everything this team does has been low class over the past couple years. They've gutted their scouting department, they made a mess of their AHL team, they wouldn't extend either of their team captains, and they won't pay Teppo Numminen (I'm sure potential free agents love to hear that). But other than ALL THAT, they're a super organization these days.

Hillary's Balkan Adventures
SilverNRed replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Running from snipers with your daughter at your side, or just calmly walking out of a plane and being greeted on the runway. Yeah, I could see how someone running for president could confuse the two. Just a "dumb exaggeration of the facts", people. Nothing to see here. -

She didn't lie, she just misspoke. Of course, the Clintonian definition of misspeaking is telling a detailed story that is completely fabricated while running for office....and getting caught. And as sad as Hillary's story and subsequent explanation are, the saddest part is that there are people who've spent years of their lives looking up to this moron. -

Wow, this is seriously one of the most unhinged posts I've ever seen on this board. It's kinda weird that "real wages" have been going down for "30 years" while the standard of living in this country remains so good. -

The story is important because "Obama's people" shouldn't have had to have been the ones to tell him to stop attending and donating money to the church run by the crazy racist, paranoid crackpot. He had 20 years to stand up to a bigot and he didn't bother. If that doesn't punch a hole in his magic persona, I don't know what will. -
And by "head on" you mean he waited 20 years before being forced to face the issue when running for president. Way to go, Barack!

I don't think he meant anything by it, but can you imagine the response if a white politician said "typical black person"?? Not an impressive week for Obama, IMO.

HBD to RkFast, SilverNRed, and bschmoove
SilverNRed replied to stuckincincy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Thanks, guys. Since I moved out west, my closest family members live over 1000 miles away. So I appreciate the annual birthday "Mandygram Handygram" thread on TSW. Nice to find out that in addition to sharing a birthday with Rosie O'Donell and Kevin Federline, I can add RkFast to the list. -
Probably. The AIDS episode didn't hold up as well the second time I saw it. The two scenes where the boys find out they have HIV with their mothers present were just depressing. It still had some great gags but I think the source material didn't work. The Britney episode didn't have a lot of "LOL" jokes but they parallels they drew between Britney's situation and the horror movies they picked were pretty brilliant. I noticed when they were sneaking her out of the hospital, they had one of the paparazzi tip his head back, point, and scream at her just like (I think) the clones in the Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake.
-
The jokes weren't on Britney, though. The jokes were about our stupid media and our stupid culture for rooting for her to fail. Yes, we all like watching stupid celebrities fail, but that stopped being fun with Britney years ago because she's completely lost her mind (hence "no brain" in the episode). But she's still propped up by people looking to make money and ridiculed by people (the equivalent of making fun of a retarded person at this point). Not their funniest episode by any stretch, but brilliant in execution. I did appreciate seeing a "Hilldog" guy in the crowd at the debate and the animal control people taking Butters away.

The Incredibly Shrinking Dollar!
SilverNRed replied to molson_golden2002's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The people who actually read about Jefferson respect him less than the people who don't. The attacks he orchestrated on Washington, Adams, and Hamilton that eventually landed him in the White House were completely awful. His economic theories were a joke. -
Robbing Japan? MLB hasn't forced any Japanese players to come to North America. They decide if they want to come over and not all of them succeed. And MLB players have toured and been celebrated in Japan since the days of Babe Ruth. Greed in pro sports isn't exactly new either.

Nice gesture by the Yankees. Also nice of MLB to let Joe Saunders (VT alum) pitch with a VT hat on last season right after the tragedy: Picture (GO ANGELS ) -
The sad part is that "Kristin" will be a very wealthy girl for a long time. And now you have to wonder how many stupid teenage girls are going to try to follow her example and whore their way to fame and fortune. This is a horrific event for our society.
