  1. On a ship at sea... in a storm: has got to be one of my worse hangover experiences. I drank somekind of slush drink called Fat Tuesdays while inport Key West.... CHEAP LIQUOR is the foundation of the meanest hangovers. When you think it it can't get worse, you get a wind from astern and it fills the entire bridge with stinkin diesel exhaust gas.... Then you smell & hear the vomit of other crew members... Then the Filipino cook who spends his entire life at sea and loves every minute of it, decides to make his special fried sardines... talk about stink! I'm getting sick just writing this... But I'd go back to sea in a heart beat... talk about sick!
  2. Play as a team... EXACTLY. Brady is a slightly above average quarterback, surrounded by a really good team. I think if Brady came to Bflo, his performance wouldn't be anywhere near as good as it is in NE. Maybe better than Bledso, but not by a huge amount.
  3. 3 pages... and no tennis ball joke? I'm disappointed. Travis up the left side. But the unsung contributor of the day will be Reed catching passing over the middle and slot.
  4. Intellectual Morons : How Ideology Makes Smart People Fall for Stupid Ideas cut/pasted Oh so true. True for the hard right as well. But it seems the left falls victim to their ideology more so than the right. I've witnessed it on this board... today in fact. Dan Rather is in deep denial, one can see that his ideological brain is thinking more than his rational brain.
  5. Sorry about the URL... I couldn't get it to show up in the post correctly. SF 180
  6. Bush is taking heat due to newly found military records. The irony is that he is taking heat because he signed the SF-180 that allows us to see his records. John Kerry won't release his military records. You (the voter) could infer all kinds of nasties from that. What is he hiding? Could be nothing, or could be something quite gross. GW was a stand up guy and released his records... edge: Bush. When Kerry signs the SF-180 releasing his reoords, then we can do a fair side by side comparison. For your convenience, here is a link to the necesary form: SF-180. Fax it to the campaign. Until Kerry's military records are released I guess I'll have to rely on the accounts of the 250 eye witnesses (Swifties). After you get Kerry to release his medical records, get him to release his tax records, Theresa's tax records (their finances are intertwined so her records are fair game), and his medical records. GW has released all of the above. (I thought the form number was quite amusing for Kerry... 180! Get it?)
  7. Is there still a "Jay's Diner" near RIT? It's been 20 years... but I remember we'd go there for the Clam Chowder (New England). Good stuff!
  8. Good god!! That Gawaher forum was pretty sick & twisted. I went and removed the cookie they left on my system. NOW I have a website worse than that Peter Pan one that keeps popping up here
  9. The Russia of old would have been done something BIG by now. But the new Russia is dirt broke and limited in what they can do. Did you see how poorly equipped their special forces were last week... and that was the equivalent of their Delta Force. This blog has a very good discussion on the Russian response: Belmont Club. Regardless of the who/what/how retaliation happens, I hope it's HUGE and violent. That's what those vermin deserve for deliberately harming children. A message needs to be sent. If they get away with it there, it will be done here soon!. You know what is interesting... they caught 9 Arab terrorists among the Checnyan dirt bags, which implies a direct link to militant Islam world wide, but the main stream press isn't reporting the Arab factor!!! Multi-cultural sensitivities are hindering and prolonging the war on terror.
  10. Agree... the Dems best chance was Lieberman. The first Dem mistake was they chose the "anything but Bush" campaign platform way back in the primaries. Instead of marketing "this is our plan for the future", they marketed that they were the anti-Bush. The Anything But Bush tactic of the far left Dems killed the chances of any moderate candidate winning the nomination (eg. Lieberman). Then, with the ticket firmly entrenched in left wing mode, Howard Dean had that amusing meltdown primal scream... and the left panic caused them to gravitate to the only leftie who had a shred of momentum at the time, KERRY. Kerry was a panic selection. He was the benefactor of some well timed primary adds, the anti-Bush platform that ruled out moedrates, and the momentary meltdown of Dean. The bottom line (maybe): The candidate that could ice the primaries by appealing to the base is the exactly the kind of person who could lose the main election. A politcal scientist's Catch-22. Kerry may win in November.... or December if his lawyers are good.
  11. NUTS TO THAT Free Speech... as long as it's their speech.
  12. 98% of the time, I'm all USA. The other 2%, I root for the best hottie on the court that day. for example Maria.
  13. Huh... so most (but not all) VA hopstials suck? A freind of mine is retired, he uses TRICARE and loves it. Can you use TRICARE anywhere... or if a VA hospital is nearby, are you compelled to use that? TRICARE with civilian providers seems to be the best of both worlds.
  14. I understand that many innovations were born at NASA... but there is a better and more efficient way to innovate. Many of the innovations you cite were coming anyway. NASA does not have a monopoly on smarts. They have an inefficient shuttle program. Titan and Delta launches are much more cost effective. Only the industrial contracts and govt employment surrounding the shuttle prog keep it afloat (it hurt to say that... it made me sound like a liberal). ...and I forget the space probe name: but there is one that we lost because some bad computer code, to the cost of something like $250 million. I think the problem was a faulty conversion from metric to english measurement. Then there's the bloated govt employee issue. I'd like to do a FOIA request and find out their SES to GS and WG employee ratio. My agency has 40,000 empluyees... 8 are SES. NASA Langley VA alone is reported to have 27 SES. Give me a break. Pork.. pork... pork... and once in a while something good comes out. Big deal.
  15. They actually have a "division" at NASA doing this! Flying Cars I say that if it is worthwhile the private sector will figure it out with their money. There are enough drivers on the road now who can't drive in two dimensions, now we'll add a third. Great. Let's not forget the security implications. Some dude trying to meet Allah will hi-jack a flying Sport Ute because the owner left the keys in the ignition at the 7-11, he'll pack it with C4 and fly into the 10th floor of some bldg. NASA: Half their budget is for truly worthwhile projects. The other half is unadulterated pork. They profess a significant positive ROI for the country, I don't buy it.
  16. I think the board is cyclical. A few months ago I visited and the board was in a very strong left-wing mode. The last few days have been heavy with right posts. I think we'lll see heavy, but nearly even posting until a few weeks after the election. Then the cyclical nature will start again. Psuedo-code for an analyst, plot this: select date, political leaning of poster from ppp where poster not in (insert the names of sociopaths) /* eliminate noise from the study */ group by date
  17. Violence and disruption at RNC will only be counter productive for the left. It will give the lefties a short term warm & fuzzy, but in the long run it will harm their agenda. Chaos may solidify their base, but it will NOT bring any new people into the fold, and it may cause people to leave the fold. Someone needs to tell these guys that the 60's are over and new tactics are needed. I'll make a prediction: If the RNC is chaos, there will be a huge November victory for Bush.
  18. Here's my viewpoint on post-war activities for both Bush/Kerry: I have allot experience in Reserve programs... I know that the programs were sloppily administered in 70's, so unless a smoking gun appears that says either one screwed the pooch with drill participation or conduct... what either one did as a Reservist in the 70's is just noise. Bush: Heck, it's hard to tell who drilled last weekend, not to mention 30 years ago! Kerry: I wouldn't doubt if the Naval Reserve Center gave a signal that they wouldn't raise a stink over his drill attendence or illegal anti-war actions. Bush drill attendence... Kerry anti-war behavior... not a reliable indicator of character due to context issues. Noise. The Active Duty War conduct of Kerry is another matter. This was semi-important to me before the DNC. Post-DNC, because Kerry campaign has made his service a showcase issue, I have to pay more attention. I have to be concerned because they put this center stage with that cheesy salute & speech, but I also have to pay attention because the Kerry campaign is not offering anything else to think about. All we voters have is Cambodia and Medals to think about until Kerry changes that. It's a problem of his own creation. Why did they put the war center stage? I think this was a tactical error. ...and don't blame the Swifties. There are ten times as many 527's pointed against Bush.
  19. Everyone who joins the military has an "initial military obilgation" or IMO. Most IMOs today are eight years. Kerry's IMO was six years. The six years was not a Kerry privilege, is was the norm for the era. During the IMO, you can be active duty, drilling as a Reserve or a non-drilling Reserve. During your IMO, you are subject to military jurisdiction... even if you are a non-drilling Reservist. Generally speaking, people within their IMO fall in one of the following categories: a. Active Duty b. Select Reserve section of the Ready Reserve (someone required to drill) c. Individual Ready Reserve section of the Ready Reserve (someone not required to drill) Kerry shifted from Active Duty to the Ready Reserve in Jan 1970. I don't know if he was SELRES or IRR. Given the publicity of President Bush's drilling records, wouldn't it be interesting to find out if Kerry had an obligation to drill... and didn't. He transferred from the Ready Reserve to the Standby Reserve in 1972. A common cited problem with Kerry were that his post-Viet Nam activities 1970-1972 were against the law for a Ready Reserve sworn officer to be engaged in.
