  1. The arts district on the river is gone. The biking trail will probably survive. Biltmore village is still underwater. The restaurants will come back if they can get water. Rebuild it and they will come. It is an excellent place to visit. Never been to Rocky's. Sounds like my kinda place.
  2. Dude. hanging by a thread is better than we were 2 weeks ago. Can u please ask Ted Cruz to stop asking me for donations? Texas? Wow
  3. Well ok then. I love it. And it's not all hippies and artists...tho they're fine by me. There's a very southern, old time vibe to Asheville as well. Go to the Catholic cathedral and you'll see women wearing veils and a very staid vibe. It's both. And it works. And it has amazing restaurants and music and streets alive. Biltmore is amazing especially with exhibits. Try it again when it recovers. Hotel Indigo is awesome.
  4. Winning but it ain't over til it's over...
  5. Does trump wear eyeliner too? Vance is a tool. Total phony. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas!
  6. Not news. but he says Kamala is dumb as a rock...
  7. yup. But the MAGAs here already knew and don't care. The smarter swing votes will. https://www.yahoo.com/news/bombshell-special-counsel-filing-includes-193959558.html
  8. He loves Asheville🥰. I'm sure he's in for $5k at least.
  9. what exactly are you doing to help your fellow Carolinians? Sending money😂
  10. Just got news from a pastor that Damascus wants to hold on volunteers til FEMA arrives and assesses damage. I'm still showing up with license in hand. Worried about Hep A and tetanus given sewer washout. I'm told there's a public health and vaccine van coming.
  11. 40. It's gonna be a while. The bootlegger roads are more fun to drive anyway. https://www.yahoo.com/news/40-closed-try-alternate-routes-221535256.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall
  12. forget about 58. you can get to Asheville off 77 thru Boone I believe. Just for you https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=aaplw&p=god+willin+and+the+creek+don't+rise+video#id=2&vid=4bbcf482fb4e4c889f51a5cc1044c3e8&action=click
  13. 81 is fine except a sinkhole opened south bound and stopped traffic for a while. Now it's ok. How bout 26 and 40 around Asheville?
  14. I'm not laughing at anyone...plan to go to Damascus tomorrow to help.
  15. ok, so not independently capable indefinitely. So, if they do need our money and logistical support, we need something in return. That would be influence over their military operations using our resources. You act shocked at this take while almost half the country is going to vote for a man that sees everything in economic transactional terms, especially alliances like NATO.
  16. they don't need it according to Sherpa. It would be analogous to giving tax breaks to wealthy people. So yes, I'm against it. Oh and Ukraine is an ally.
  17. Another donation opportunity: World Central Kitchen. They are working with local restaurants to feed people in Asheville. Curate is an exceptional Tapas restaurant there. https://www.southernliving.com/asheville-chefs-feed-city-after-hurricane-helene-8720720 Global disaster relief organization World Central Kitchen has partnered with local chefs including Meherwan Irani (Chai Pani, Botiwalla Asheville), Katie Button (Curate, Curate Tapas Bar), John Fleer (Rhubarb), Tom LaFauci (Twisted Laurel), and Collyn McDonald (Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ) to make and distribute free hot food. Currently, meals are being offered at Bear’s Smokehouse every day at 12:00 PM. “We are devastated by the damage inflicted on our beautiful city, the entire Western North Carolina region, and beyond,” the restaurant wrote in a recent Instagram post. “Together we will rebuild and heal. We invite everyone to join us in this effort—because together we are stronger.”

  19. and as Sherpa mentioned, great trout fishing along the trail. There are several fly only (single hook) sections and if you know where to look, some nice native rainbows.
  20. The Israelis aren't using rubber bullets either. why do we send aid to Israel if they can independently protect themself? Do you agree with All Pro that this is about fossil fuel and business? Those are our interests here? When he said "don't let them fool you", I think he meant you.
  21. Absolutely. Leaf peepers usually spend lots of needed dollars. after clean up, remember these areas. Many are spectacular. There's a 14 mile, almost all downhill trail for biking or hiking into Damascus from Whitecap mountain. It WILL be rebuilt.
  22. I know 2 individuals who owned the vast majority of rental units here. They live in the community and rents were reasonable. A national company bought them out and immediately massively raised rents. It's capitalism but so is only building high dollar houses. Low dollar houses need not be as you described....
  23. No. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/eats-shoots-leaves-lynne-truss/1100734289
