The common threads in most of these mass shooting is the shooter showed signs of violent behavior and nothing was done.  We are deathly afraid to surveil or lock these people up if necessary. But no. We ignore the warning signs and even allow them to buy weapons. THIS is how you fix the problem. True meaningful gun legislation does not mean taking away the guns. It’s doing our best to keep them out of the hands of the violently disturbed.  The warning signs are often very much in the open and identifiable.

    BINGO

And those people are not worth saving?

People who survive suicide attempts rarely end up dying via suicide. And most methods of suicide have a completion rate of 10% or less. Suicide attempts by guns are 90%+ effective.

I never said that. I've lost two people to suicide.

The point is, self inflecting gunshots should have a separate category. More people die (suicides) using other methods than a firearm. But looking at firearms, Texas has a HIGH number of firearms and a low suicide rate.

Look at the dates on some of those. 1907? What are we even talking about here? Is this supposed to make a convincing point about something?

If you want real numbers, let's look at per capita gun deaths by country. If you notice, the average is 6.5 but the US is almost double that. Despite being a rich nation, we are lumped in with violent Latin American countries instead of our economic peers.

We can try to cherry pick the data all we want but when you look at how often Americans are killed by guns, it far exceeds what you would expect to see in a developed nation.

If you're fine with that because of whatever reason, that's up to you. But let's not pretend it's something it's not. We know it's solvable because other nations have solved it.  Canada's rate is 2.05. France's is 2.83. Australia is 1.04. We can look to any of these countries to figure out how to reduce the gun deaths here, but that would require us actually wanting to save lives.

    This is also 'cherry picking'.

Most gun related deaths in the United States are suicides.

Other countries have people with mental illness. Other countries have people using social media. But most countries don't have the sheer number of gun deaths that we do. The difference is the prevalence and ease of access to guns.

The Democratic Party has long advocated for stronger gun control laws. And while I don't think the policies they advocate are always optimal (banning AR-15s won't really do much), they at least try to make it harder for these killings to happen. The Republican Party not only opposes and blocks those attempts, but also promotes a gun-forward culture where we have things like the governor of Texas complaining because his state was in second in gun sales, not first. I am not politicizing the issue, the politicians are.

Guns are dangerous tools and should be treated as such. We should make it harder for people to obtain them and promote a healthy and responsible culture around them.

    Ideas?

The Republican Party has proven over and over again that they are unwilling to pass meaningful gun legislation.

How many more innocent people have to die for US to start to place the blame where it belongs:

    YOU

Republican voters endorse these mass killings by continuing to vote in these gun loving NRA candidates.

    YOU OWN THIS

Again, BillStime provides ZERO solutions. Just b*tch and post tweets.

You don't think the gun manufacturers benefit from this? Gun sales skyrocket every time there is a massacre. I'll bet the NRA--with its Russian connections--is already sending out mass mailings saying gun are about to be banned, unless you join and stop the Democrats

Ya, the NRA telling their followers this time the Dems really will ban all guns. Just BS.

Hurray! Get your guns before its too late!!

Do you know why that is?

Not one thing has changed since Sandy Hook thanks to the Republican party and their voters

    Post Sandy Hook:

The executive actions signed by President Obama were:

    • Issuing a presidential memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
    • Addressing unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), that may prevent states from making information available to NICS.
    • Improving incentives for states to share information with NICS.
    • Directing the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
    • Proposing a rule making to give law enforcement authorities the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
    • Publishing a letter from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
    • Starting a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
    • Reviewing safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
    • Issuing a presidential memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
    • Releasing a report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and making it widely available to law enforcement authorities.
    • Nominating an ATF director.
    • Providing law enforcement authorities, first responders and school officials with proper training for armed attacks situations.
    • Maximizing enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
    • Issuing a presidential memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to research gun violence.
    • Directing the attorney general to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenging the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
    • Clarify that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
    • Releasing a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
    • Providing incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
    • Developing model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship, and institutions of higher education.
    • Releasing a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
    • Finalizing regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within insurance exchanges.
    • Committing to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
    • Starting a national dialogue on mental health led by Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of health and human services, and Arne Duncan, the secretary of education.

And there it is. It's not hard to figure this ***** out.   You must present a valid and current permit to purchase ammo.  It's been awhile since we bought ammo and it reminded me. Here in CA you needed to go through a background check but it appears it was struck down by a Federal Judge.  I think that is a bit excessive because if you shoot a lot your could be buying ammo weekly.  However a middle ground is as mentioned above.  You need to present a current gun permit that needs to be renewed (with background checks) every year or other year to purchase ammo.  Also.  You want to buy body armor?  Background check.  Good ***** lord.  So someone buys body armor and there are no red flags?

He was not wearing body armor. CNN just reported it.

  9. WORLD WIDE - Worst school massacres in world history.

The top 10 are all in other countries. Bath School in 1927 is 13th on the list. 15th on the list is VA Tech... school shooting, worst in US history, carried out with a .22 pistol and 9mm pistol. No AR-15 in sight.

We can stop pretending it's just the United States. Evil will find a way. If that's using a knife, a truck, a bomb, etc.

You tell me how we stop evil finding a way to kill someone. You want to ban the AR-15? Let me know what the worst school shooting was and what weapon(s) used to carry that one out.

EVIL will always find a way. It just doesn't happen in America with shootings, it happens in Europe... Asia... S. America... Africa...  with bombs, trucks, knives, etc.

Out of the worst school shootings in the world, the United States has two of the top 15. Bath School (12th) and Va Tech (15th).  AR-15's weren't used in either one.
