So he finally found out what their record is.

Also. The team that owes to Zach Wilson and Mac jones is going to beat Joe burrow and Patrick Mahomes led teams? Ok Go Bills!

I mean last year they lost to Zach Wilson and beat Patrick Mahomes, the year before that they lost to Mac Jones but beat Patrick Mahomes. Division games have an element of wtf to them some years, see the Dolphins & Jets last year.

We'll see what happens, they're not dead yet but man the last couple of games have looked like a struggle.

This! The offense is not humming, but they have shown they can score -- they do need to do so early and more often. But the D has regressed significantly since the injury bug plague hit. That is on McDermott to adjust/fix.

I get that he’s the HC and DC, but man is it hard to deal with the fact that 30-40% of your starting defensive lineup is either out due to injury or done for the year. If he can right that ship he’s a goddamn miracle worker.

Von has no business calling that meeting right now. Players who contribute should. A contract doesn't make you a leader and he sucks on the field right now

I think Von can speak to a similar situation, where the Denver Broncos had an aging Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler had to come in to relieve him from bad play/injury and they had a couple of shaky moments in the middle of the season. That team rallied, the defense really clamped down and they ended up winning the Super Bowl as an underdog.

Sure Von's play isn't all that on the field right now as he gets himself right, but that experience speaks volumes to a team that could have folded in the face of an offense that looked DOA after it became obvious that Peyton could no longer push the ball down the field.

  4. We'll be down to Philips, Settle, Ford and Vickers on the interior.

Williams is Bernard are good run defenders and our edges can set the edge decently well, at least Lawson and Epenesa do. Taron is also good in run situations.

Their passing game is limited, if we can shut down the run this game is over.

  5. I do sometimes wonder how you're supposed to officiate or control how this works in a game as fast and as violent as NFL football. We're favoring the passing game, so defenders are getting smaller, faster and more agile/athletic. As a result, they're being forced to tackle players that are bigger than them. That puts the defender at a disadvantage when trying to tackle. What is the defenders supposed to do other than drop their legs out from under them, using the weight of their body as a means to create dead weight and bring the offensive player down?

So many of these ticky tack rules, it makes for a worse overall game because if the play isn't executed perfectly by everyone on the field the offensive is either gifted a fresh set of downs or is walking back 10-15 yards and the drive is basically on life support.

Frankly, and I know this sounds insane, but they should just get rid of pads/helmets and force the players to play that way. Instead of trying to legislate safety but forcing players to wear more armor and get faster/stronger, force players to protect their bodies because there isn't anything protect them.

Nice post. I really think it's scheme related. I mean look at the success of Moss in Indy. Most fans couldn't wait for Moss to go. You usually don't see such an uptick like that.

That's honestly purely volume, look at his carries/attempts in Buffalo vs the amount of carries he's getting in Indy. He had maybe 90-110 carries a year with the Bills. This year in Indy he's played 5 games and has 96 carries already. His stats are not THAT much better in Indy than they were here but his attempts per game is almost DOUBLE in Indy what it was in Buffalo.

I think some of it can be chalked up to the fact that it was one of those weekends: Cincy, Buffalo, KC, Philly, and SF (five of the league's six best teams; the other is Miami) all failed to score 20 points. Cincy should have lost, SF and Philly did lose (due in part to stupidly aggressive play-calling on their final possession), and KC failed to get 20 points at home against a historically bad Denver defense. Just a weird early-part-of the-midseason weekend.

This was a weird ass weekend of football, I blame mercury being in retrograde.

  8. The only way I'm justifying what I watched last night is that Daboll, desperate to notch a W, put together a great gameplan to stop the Bills offense, because he knows Dorsey, he knows Allen and he knows this offense. If anyone can scheme a couple of wrinkles in to give the Bills a hard time it would probably be Daboll.

Really weird week in the NFL, Eagles lost, 49ers lost, lots of funky low scoring games everywhere. Figures we'd get sucked into that nonsense too. At least we got the W.

A few things about the Pats with Brady:

    1. in the early years he had Corey Dillon as a RB that helped a lot.

    2. for most of the time he was in NE he played smart and took what the D gave him and minimized turnovers. This was key because the Pats usually had a good D as well.

    3. The Pats IMO had the best OLine coach ever in Scar and he just was able to make almost anyone work on his line. I say the dynasty truly ended when he retired after their last SB win. Their O line been average to down right bad since.

    4. IMO what made NE good was the fact they could win by Brady’s ability or by defense or even by special teams making a big play in a game.

Also back with Brady every game plan was designed uniquely to attack that team. One week it be heavy pass the next be running it down your throat, and sometimes it be okay safe and don’t turn the ball over and let the D win the game with a big turnover or making them punt deep in their own end zone. (Thinking the Pats v Rams SB)

The thing I 'appreciated' (if you can put it that way lol) about watching the BB/Brady Pats was patience. They rarely had games get away from them because they were willing to be patient in all 3 phases to wait for the right moment, let an opponent commit an unforced error, and capitalize.

  10. You honestly think that BB would willingly tank a season to set up his kid and not chase the all time wins record from George Halas? BB has 299 wins and needs 20 more to beat the record. He's gunning for it and you better believe it.

I get what you are saying, but IMO Norman was AWFUL in 2020.  Picking up the system should not be overly complex.  Floyd came in and apparently "got" the system.  Find someone from a zone system and get them.  Likely the current PS guy is a better player at this point, just IMO.

I think 'the system' for a DE, playing in a 4/2/5, is pretty straightforward. There's a lot more to digest if you're a LB, S or a CB. Dline has much fewer coverage responsibilities and the part of the field they are responsible for is much smaller.

  12. Poona and Settle are gonna have to step up. Poona was brought on as insurance for Daquan going down.

He hasn't been super inspiring so far, but he's getting a chance to prove his worth. They're gonna have to figure out a way to make it work.

Defense was not why we lost yesterday.  Offense squandered all the mo by not double dipping at the start of the 2nd half.  Multiple catches for FDs dropped. Josh under throwing Stef twice took 2 tuddys off the board. The only player that showed up besides Stef and Josh was AJ Epenesa. D had 2 turnovers. On the field for 40 mins. Not the Ds fault.

Couldn't run for ***** yesterday either, leading rusher was JA with 14 yards?! Is the Jags run defense that good?

Also I don't have the numbers but it seemed like every single snap was from shotgun and we ran almost no PA from center.
