Elite.  Lollllllllllllll.  Unless 15 guys at each position qualify as elite, he never sniffed it.  And he already came back from his injury and sucked out loud.  He is actually “worth” more than $1 due to the vet minimum rule so I realize that anywhere he goes, they will pay him more than that.

Butler is a DT and we drafted two DEs with a notion that each might be able to slide inside sometime in the future.  Should we trade Tre White because we drafted Hamlin?  They play different positions in the same general area too.

Hold up, are you saying that Zach Ertz has NEVER been elite?

    That's a hell of a hot take.

Damn, a lot of people seem to think that adding Julio Jones has vaulted the Titans past the Bills, Ravens, Browns, etc.

    Delusional.

I agree that Stafford was a completely different situation than Darnold or Wentz in that he was never the problem in Detroit, he just didn't have a team around him. I just wanted to keep him here since he's another former top pick that switched teams. Actually, I was listening to Sirius XM NFL Radio yesterday (?) and I think it was Ryan Leaf was ranking the QBs in the NFC West. He had Stafford as last saying that until he sees it, he's not buying that changing Goff for Stafford is going to necessarily change much.

As for Fitz, yes, he's the odd man out in that he's not a former top pick, he has generally been what he is, a decent stop gap QB or a good backup. Again, I just decided to include him for as much as any reason many of us like to see him succeed when it doesn't adversely affect the Bills. Him being in the NFC, and also being the on the only NFC team that only plays the Bills in our division, I likely will root for him in every game except of course against the Bills.

I agree, or at least I kind of hope you're right. I don't really care about Wentz except I like the idea of Reich looking good and him resurrecting Wentz's career will make him look good. Of course, if he does, then the Colts will be competition for the Bills, but that's ok, so long as we beat them in the playoffs. And, I'd much rather the Colts win than the Titans.

I'm sorry, what? Someone ranked Stafford below Trey Lance/Jimmy G and Kyler Murray?

Beane is not a guy to ponder roster decissions in the media.  Just like edge rusher.  Edge rusher was a concern.  Beane drafted a guy in Rd 1 and 2.  One offseason he signed 6 olineman.  Another he signed 2 wrs day 1 of FA.  What I am saying is that if he was worried about it he would fix it.  Imo he is trying to motivate Knox to hopefully take a step.

Well, the ten million dollar question in that case is...what is he using the Diggs restructure for?

Went to Madrid and the Bernabeu in November 2005. It was quite cold. So I took the big coat to the match. 5 minutes in sat in the top tier and I was sweating like a hippo in power shower. Looked up and there were heaters in the stand roof. Should’ve worn shorts and t-shirt.

Madrid won 5-0. Goal scorers were Figo, Ronaldo (the original) x 2, Beckham and Owen. Lovely stuff.

Ah I remember those days when they just stole every good player from everyone and most declined. Michael Owen on Liverpool was probably my favourite player of all time. I feel he'd have Gerrard status if he'd stayed long term. Ronaldo looked way better in Inter's blue and black, as well. Pretty sure Real had those hideous white kits with the weird stencil lettering at the time.

I get a kick out of hearing the local English fans announce picks for the Jacksonville Jag-U-ars during the NFL Drawft.

They make it sound so regal.

We should teach them that they should be saying "Jagwires". If American English was good enough for Jesus, it can be good enough for them.

Bills had to deal with far worse in being sent to Toronto in the same kind of arrangement as the Jags.

eball I agree with you.  I'm saying anyone can take stats and make predictions from them.  But if you watch the game and watch the player and know something about football you wouldn't necessarily make those predictions.  I'm fond of saying "34.7% of all statistics are totally meaningless".

I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'm really not understanding the lack of concern seemingly everyone has towards Wentz. He was literally the worst starting QB in football last year. I don't know why people think it will just take Frank Reich to make him good again.

You don't blow open the lead in interceptions solely due to bad coaching, which I'm not even convinced was the problem.

  8. I don't really think Stafford or Fitz quite belong there. The others haven't been good and required a change of scenery, but changing teams is normal for Fitz and Stafford is already a very good QB and has been for his while career.

I'd love to see Darnold succeed. Poor guy got such a raw deal.

If the bills are interested in trading for him, then I wonder what’s the hold up. The asking price, whether or not ertz wants to be here, or his contract. I mean he can’t be worth more than a 5th at this point.

Didn't Roseman want a super high pick for him initially? I've read he's incredibly stubborn, so maybe he's just not budging, which doesn't make a lot of sense. Could also be holdups with contract restructure, amount of salary that the Eagles will retain, etc. Ertz is a clear upgrade at a position that they've stated they want to improve, so I have little doubt they are trying to get it done.

The first player that comes to mind is Eric Moulds.  He had an end of career Kelly, a bad Todd Collins, a bad Rob Johnson, not so good Flutie, a shot Bledsoe and a bad JP Losman throwing to him....yet he still put up good numbers.  Any other QB I'm missing?

I think if Moulds had at least a decent QB to throw to him, he would be looked at as one of the greats.  He would be known at the same level as Marvin Harrison and Tory Holt who were in his same era.  But with the QB's throwing to him, he is really only still remembered by Bills fans.

    Who you got?

Well, I think WRs are going to be the vast majority of answers, so Moulds is obvious but I'll add Peerless Price.

Because, as of now, Mahomes is better

edit:  for the record.  It’s one of the reasons I hate him. “Hate” being a rather strong word, I’d rather use strongly dislike. I know how much the bills winning a super bowl means to me and he stands in the way of that.  I believe that we’ll win at least one SB with Allen.....but if we don’t, Mahomes will likely be one of the reasons.  There have been several great teams that didn’t win a championship due to the greatness of one player.  I believe Mahomes might be good enough to be that guy.

another reason I strongly dislike him:

Josh talks a lot of smack....but I don’t think he would do something like this if he were in Mahomes position.  Bad character move on his part imo.  Really rubbed me the wrong way

This bothers me more than it should, but when he's scrambling and stuff, his helmet looks like it's 3 sizes too big for some reason. Josh just looks a lot more elegant when he does those things and his helmet size is appropriate.

Obviously there was and still is concern about him by the front office and coaching staff or you simply would not go back to back defensive ends. They of course are going to talk him up but if the guy puts in another year like last he won’t make it to year 3.

The Basham pick reasoning has been explained ad nauseum. He was way higher than anyone else on their board. It has literally zero connection to AJ Epenesa.

Or the delay could be with Ertz/his agent and the Bills.  They may have negotiated a 4th or 5th for Ertz already dependent upon Ertz signing a contract with the Bills.

Determining a fair contract is a nightmare.  And if the Bills are trying to get more than one year, the terms are even more complicated.  Fair Market Value for Ertz is tough to figure, such a huge possible range.

What if this isn't even Ertz?

This waiting is driving me crazy

This makes very little sense. You do realize AJ was a second round pick during COVID, didn't get a preseason game snap, had solid starters in front of him AND DE's take a while to develop?  Relax, man, breath. It may be another season or two before we know if AJ will be a solid contributor.

    + The weight thing

I don't see any reason why we can't start making judgments on AJ starting this season. He was trending up last year and after sticking at this weight for a year, plus full training camp, OTAs and pre-season, there shouldn't be anything holding him back physically.

People talk about the Bills like they are destined for the SB… they could absolutely lose to a few AFC teams in the playoffs. The conference is stacked. The Titans, Chiefs, Browns can all be better/beat the Bills next season…. Not saying the Bills can’t beat them either but I think it’s all pretty close between the Titans, Bills, and Browns. Chiefs are still in another tier, IMO.

Name one person who is acting like the Bills are destined for the SB. Just one. One person who doesn't think the Chiefs are the biggest hurdle to overcome, but that we are just a shoo-in. Can you?

The quarterback has not spoken to the media about his decision to sign with the Bills since joining the team in March until Thursday, when he did a video interview with The Buffalo News. Here is that conversation, which has been lightly edited for length and clarity:

Correct me if I am wrong, but Hollister has 2 practices in May/June that reporters could see. How can he "look good" enough where anyone could make any kind of judgement about how he will fare this year? Offseason be crazy

Fwiw, he seemed to have great chemistry with Josh in college.

Either way, there's nothing wrong with having 3 TEs. Do wish Ertz was a better blocker, though. Realistically, he's closer to a slot receiver than a TE, but maybe it's just the way he was used in Philly.

It's about time we start another Ertz thread. 😃🙃

This has been the most drawn out, telegraphed trade I can ever remember. I'll just be glad to have it over and done with, sign Nelson or Sherman and call it a day.

Hollister is supposedly looking good at OTAs so far, already seems to have a better connection with Allen than Knox. This won't be a popular opinion on here but if we do actually trade for Ertz, Knox isn't a lock to make the team.

Plenty of teams utilize 3 TEs.

    2.  Vaccinations are in fact a story.  If you don’t think they are now, they will be if and when a non-vaccinated player winds up getting Covid.  And because a player is making an active choice to exhibit behavior that could sideline him and potentially other contacts on the team, it’s relevant.

This shouldn't be the same as last year.

I never understand those people who want to force the vaccine on others. For one, they cite their necessity for "the greater good", have no doubt about their efficacy and then act as if the vaccine has absolutely no effect because we have to continue to follow the draconian measures of pre-vaccine times. If the vaccines work, why do people still need to wear masks? If 30/32 teams are vaccinated to the "standard" (and the other two obviously not being at 0%), why would we continue to treat this virus the same way as last year?
