  1. It seems to me that the current catch rule is overly complicated-leading to a lot of subjectivity. Even announcers often disagree after watching several slo-mo replays, not to mention disagreement among officials. And just try explaining the rule (that I probably don't fully understand) to a novice football watcher. Here is the rule: RULE SUMMARY VIEW OFFICIAL RULE COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is inbounds: a. secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and b. touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and c. after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, performs any act common to the game (e.g., tuck the ball away, extend it forward, take an additional step, turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so. Notes: Movement of the ball does not automatically result in loss of control. If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds A receiver is considered a player in a defenseless posture (See 12-2-7) throughout the entire process of the catch and until the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball. If a player, who is in possession of the ball, is held up and carried out of bounds by an opponent before both feet or any part of his body other than his hands touches the ground inbounds, it is a completed or intercepted pass. It is not necessary for the player to maintain control of the ball when he lands out of bounds. Are you still with me? Did you know. that you don't have to make a 'football act' to secure the catch, but must hold onto the ball long enough to do so? I don't know the answer to how to simplify this, but it seems to me that a rule about a play so fundamental to the game should make matters clear enough so that we are not holding our breaths waiting for the official call, AFTER we have all watched a half a dozen replays. And yes a lot of rules seem to come down to subjectivity even after replay, this one just sticks in my craw a little more.
  2. If no end of 1st half FG, they almost certainly would have left more time on the clock for Bal, if we go ahead and assume they get the TD there-(can't sit on the ball in that situation). Who knows if our D would've been able to come up with another stop? So yes, great clock management and execution by our ST (with a new coach-hopefully a harbinger of more good things to come from ST/ (except for almost getting blocked!, execution of game ending FG was almost perfect as well)) was really important there). (Sorry for all of the parenthetical clauses.)
  3. One of my biggest beefs with announcers is that they do not often enough clearly call out mistakes by the officiating crew or go into detail about rule interpretations, for whatever reason. For example, two of the two point conversions last night. They did not clearly say that if a receiver is pushed out of bounds-can or can he not touch the ball first after coming back in bounds? So can DBs just push receivers out of bounds to make them ineligible, isn't illegal contact a thing? Was he not pushed hard enough to draw a penalty? A good rules interpretation of that situation was warranted and they just moved on too quickly. Also, on one of the other two point conversions it looked like Keon Coleman was mugged, but no flag. When that happens announcers most often say it's a great play by the DB and not a missed call. Same exact play that draws a flag is called a great play by the receiver to get the penalty. I know they will sometimes call attention to bad calls, but the bad calls seem to happen a lot more than the announcers bring up. Probably do not want to run afoul of NFL, I guess.
  4. To those of you who say regular season and 'mere' playoff games are meaningless, why do you watch them? I daresay most, if not all, of you writing those sentiments wouldn't dream of missing a regular season or 'non-Superbowl' playoff game. Do you feel the same after one of these meaningless game wins as losses? I've been watching the Bills since Jack Kemp was handing off to Cookie Gilchrist and would like nothing more than a Super Bowl victory for our Bills. But geesh, we can still appreciate the recent successes they've had and thirst for a Super Bowl victory at the same time.
  5. Since your doctor visit (I'm guessing some time has passed since your high school days) Creatine has a long history of solid research behind its benefits both physically and mentally, I would encourage anyone interested in their health to look into this effective and inexpensive (the monohydrate form is the one I see most often recommended) supplement. Writing this simply so anyone considering creatine doesn't dismiss it out of hand without serious consideration.
  6. Really just came down to the Bills having the better kicker.
  7. Bupkis for: Interceptions, Sacks, Missed Kicks, Punts, Mac Jones big time plays!
  8. A completely torn ACL, a dislocated knee cap and other structural knee damage that reportedly almost cost him his leg in 2016 may have had something to do with this business decision.
  9. Great coach and very deserving of HOF. That the Lamonica trade turned out to be an historically bad trade for the Bills is well known. A little side note. As a kid, like many Bills fans, I was a fan of the backup QB who happened to be Daryle Lamonica at the time and I was not happy about seeing him shipped out. To add insult to injury (pun intended), I remember that Flores arrived in Buffalo with double vision! I kid you not. Not exactly a characteristic you want to see in your new quarterback. That always stuck with me and I really don't remember much about him as a Bill after that shaky introduction.
  10. Hey guys, big day today! Take a break from the stress of game planning and general managing and remember most of these points are based on small sample sizes and for amusement only. Josh Allen is indisputably having a great MVP type of year, but did you know he currently carries only th 4th highest QBR on the Bills? Matt Barkley is not only great in the quarterback room, but he is saving Josh from having worst QBR on the team. Mahomes, some might say a viable MVP candidate, has only #2 QBR on the Chiefs. Player QBRat Cole Beasley 158.3 Isaiah McKenzie 156.3 Jaquan Johnson 118.8 Josh Allen 107.2 Matt Barkley 80.9 Any Bills running back likely to play today sports a yards per carry that is either at or significantly above league average 4.4. Player Avg Devin Singletary 4.4 T.J. Yeldon 7.0 Antonio Williams 5.3 Singletary and Clyde Edwards-Helaire both have the same 4.4 yards per carry this season. Guess who else averaged 4.4 YPC - for his career - Walter Payton; guess who failed to hit that career mark - Emmitt Smith (4.2). If Singletary was given an additional 3.3 carries per game, at his current yards per carry, he’d be a 1,000 yard rusher this season including playoffs. If TJ Yeldon had the same number of carries as Singletary has, at his current yards per carry, he’d be a 1,000 yard rusher. TJ Yeldon leads team in yards per carry, 7.0. TJ Yeldon co-leads team in yards per catch, 22.0. TJ Yeldon is one pass away from leading the team in QBR. Now get back to work on those game plans!
