Pats game was windier than this one is gonna be…also I really think that was a fluky loss weather or not personally.  We were moving the ball fine through the air and waited too long to commit to throwing imo.  Josh threw a deep ball that doinked off diggs’ head also lol

Mac could not throw at all which made the pats super one dimensional…they crossed midfield like two times

if the Steelers were some ground and pound juggernaut with a beast of an oline maybe I’d feel uneasy and this seems to be the way they’re being talked about around here for some reason..  they really aren’t that though

They actually don’t run the ball all that well.  The run it with frequency but not with as much success.

If the weather affects the pass game and Josh, than how do you think Mason Rudolph is going to perform?

Pittsburgh plays zone and Josh plays like poo against zone teams. He has the 2nd lowest QBR vs zone of any of the QBs in the playoffs. It's just asking for trouble. Run the ball and do play action. If they run it enough it will make them bring more guys into the box and man up and then that's when you can draw something up

“plays like poo?”  What are we?  Pre-school teachers?

Gather round kids...back in the old days, January weather was terrible in Orchard Park. Cold, snow, 20-35 mph winds, even negative wind chills.

Back then they said "run the ball!  It's too bad for passing"  Then a stud emerged from the tunnels that said ..."**** that!" And regardless of the elements he would toss 40, 50 yard bombs, deep outs whatever it took to hang, 30, 40, hell even 51 points once on opponents damn it!

Today, we again have a stud, with an even stronger arm than the legend of old.  I say...I say hit them with nothing they have seen yet.  3 wide, no huddle and throw the rock all over the damn field!

Winter has come for the NFL.  Tell them, House #BillsMafia remembers...

Dan Marino did the same thing in the divisional round and just sliced up the defense passing for over yards.   A warm weather team essentially was un-phased coming into cold, snowy Buffalo.

It was at that moment when I realized the conditions weren’t as big of an advantage as the media portrayed back then.

Bills need to look back at their playoff game vs Cincinnati last year and mirror their game plan.  Mix of straight ahead runs and passes with short and medium routes and hitting the rbs out in the flats.  If the weather is as bad as we expect with snow and wind, we need to run routes that allow for run after the catch as well.

Let's see what we've learned from these types of games and use this to our advantage and beat the Steelers down this weekend!! Snow games are the great equalizer but we have the better talent, playmaker and experience.

Curious what others think the Bills will do on Offense vs Pitt?

    GO BILLS!!!

You have to let Josh throw the football.  He’s proven to be able to do this in all types of weather.   THIS IS WHY THEY DRAFTED HIM.  There were opportunities for Josh last year - he just didn’t play particularly well.

The good thing is that the Brady offense is less reliant on deep shots than it was under Dorsey.

  4. I thought McDaniel came off as a pretty good guy - the players really seem to love him.  He seems like he’d be a fun coworker.  But I have to agree with what a lot of people are saying about him as a leader.

Some of what he says just seems really corny and contrived.  He’s also in a horrible position because what can he really say after a loss?

We got the playoffs, we got the second seed, we got the home field advantage, we got the seventh seed team, but we still keep on worry very much, too much !

I mean, not that it would be a cake walk, but damn, we play at home, we have Josh Allen and they have Mason Rudolph, they are without their best player TJ WATT, but we still here in panic mode.

I really dunno: do you think, honestly, that the Chiefs fans, 49ers fans, Ravens fans, Eagles fans, etc, would they feel so worried like us for playing the TJ WATTless Steelers at home? I don’t think so.

So tell me, where start all this worry, all this fear about the sunday game ? Is that truly justified ?

You are completely right from a logic standpoint but I get it.

All sports super fans develop this really mindset where you think the entire world and your own personal happiness hinges on the result of game.  I’m in this group and I can tell by the thread titles and responses here - you all are too.

I’ve been wondering how I personally got myself wrapped up this so bad, where a loss could drastically affect my mood for a day or two.  It’s pretty crazy.

I think Bills fans are not different than other sports franchises who have been relatively unsuccessful the past 2 decades or who have never won a world championship.  You are happy to see success but want to see the team capitalize on the ultimate goal because it could be a “once in a lifetime” event (again that sounds ridiculous…but you know)

So every thing intensifies.  You think that this might be the team’s best or only chance to win a championship.  Also there’s someone fans of these kind of teams do to almost protect themselves.  The second the ride is a little bumpy, everyone thinks the worst case scenario as a way to protect themselves from getting disappointed.  You always think the other shoe is going to drop and the team is “cursed” if they don’t win.

Whether you are position or negative going into the game, a loss is going to suck regardless.  So why not just try to be positive?

    much easier said than done.

Wilkins is a creep. Did anyone else notice this happen again ? This dude belongs on a sex offender registry, not a football field.

It’s so weird considering he’s been caught on camera in college and then at least two times against the Bills.  The league should be on the lookout for this

The Stillers reputation as a tough running team is more historical than it is a current reality, imo.

The Bills have more rushing yards, a better rushing average, more rushing TD's, more first downs rushing, etc.

I also think there is a certain level of wind which all but eliminates the Stillers passing attack, while only only somewhat hampering the Bills. Josh Allen can drive the ball through some winds that Mason Rudolph cannot.

If there is a legitimate equalizer to fear, it is having 8" of snow on the field.

Good point.  When Kenny Pickett was running Matt Canada’s offense there was no fear of passing and defense stacked the box.

You routinely saw Najee Harris get stuffed for 2 yard gains each time.

All things aside (injuries, etc), Miami stunk.  This game reminded me of a few others this year in which the Bills' offense handed the game over to the other team whilst also dominating them in time and yards.  Jets, week 1, to start with.  The bad teams usually won those - jets, pats, broncos; giants just couldn't take the offered win but came close.

Anyhow, point is that we dominated Miami twice this year as well as several previous years.  We also do well against the chiefs save for playoff games.  Miami is a division rival which makes them more familiar with us and so dangerous.

Either game would be in Buffalo.

So, who will you be rooting for next Saturday?

It’s also very hard to beat a team three times in a year.  I’d still probably pull for Miami.

They just have such terrible injury luck.  They’ll get back Mostert and Waddle which will help but neither will be 100%.  Hill likely is not 100% either.

Then there’s a defense who will be missing 4-5 starters, and a key utility player in Van Ginkel.

It’s not impossible to get a win at Arrowhead but if they do, they then have to travel to play Baltimore after a bye week.   I just think it will be an incredibly path and if they can make it into the AFCCG, they easily could run out of steam.

Thats not what I got out of the article. The people he interviewed gave a wide range of opinions on McDermott. Some were harsh, but certainly not all.

Ugh that’s what 90% of people who read the article took away.  The majority of the article was negative toward McDermott including several personal insults.

They don’t call the series “The Tyler Dunne Hit Piece” for nothing

The legitimate criticism in Dunne’s article was aimed at McDermott’s decisions in high pressure situations (i.e. 13 seconds, etc.). One of the facets of that criticism was that he would rely on his defense rather than Allen and the offense. At the end of the Dolphins game McDermott relied on Allen and the offense to convert two 4th&1s, including one on our own 35. That is a huge departure from his previous tactics. So it is possible that he took some of the criticism to heart and is now a much better in-game coach for it. If so, then the Bills are a legitimate contender.

The problem was that Dunne attempted to paint a narrative that McDermott was a dictator who ran a toxic environment that payers and coaches were unhappy with.  That too was proven to be untrue.

I mentioned this in another thread. Although I agreed with some of his critique, the team had the coach’s back and became offended.
McDermott has evolved over the last six games. He seems to second guess himself less and is more determined.  Josh plays best under adversity and shows a will to win like no other.

The Dunne article and national critique put a chip on this teams shoulder. It bonded them in an improbable way. They did the proverbial, “Circle the Wagons”. Mc Dermott’s growth mindset made him think his way was not getting it done.  Credit to him to accept the criticism and grow. His game management is improved.

I think this article may be the thing that propels the team to a championship.  I am sure we will hear about what it did when the season is over.

In the words of our hero..

    Go Bills!!

     And

    Maybe Thanks Tyler

Really the articles ended up hurting Dunne.  I’m sure he got a little bump in subscribers but is also solidified him as the “hit piece”

    guy.

Last week both Pat McAfee and Mike Florio said the “Tyler Dunne hit piece.”

In the end, McDermott came out looking better

Tons of Tua and McDaniel are frauds and they need to both go threads also.

The lack of confidence among some in their fan base is surprising.  Tua was the MVP four weeks ago, now he’s a fraud.  McDaniel went from offensive genius to getting fired!

How McDaniel built the entire offense around Tyreek is special.  He’s one of the best offensive minds in my opinions. Is he a great game day coach?  It too early to tell,  but he’s made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons in his first two season so he’s earned more time.

I think Tua is very limited as a QB.  He’s proven to be above average but he needs a lot of things going to well to be successful.  Miami is in a tough spot as far as a new contract.  They might be hopeful the takes a Daniel Jones contract which pays him well but not in the top 5 QB salaries.

Chicago is about to get a massive influx of talent, thanks to astute draft day trades.  If they decide to keep Fields they are going to get a massive haul for the pick they got from Carolina…they will possibly be able to add MHJ or Odunze to their receiving corps, to go along with DJ Moore…the Bears’ future is bright indeed.

They aren’t keeping Fields.  Most have them taking Caleb Williams.  Also they are keeping Matt Eberfluss as HC so… good luck with the astute team

Not only was this an admirable job of keeping the team together but the way his defense played down the stretch was remarkable.  He should be HC until he’s decides he wants to hang them up.

My problem was that people were blaming EVERYTHING on McDermott and calling him Dick Jauron with Josh Allen.  He’s a very defensive coach and seems to be growing as a HC as well.

  15. This was an ugly game but man it was such a big win.

If the Bills lose, they play Miami again with Waddle and Mostert missing Rasul Douglas and Tyrel Dodson.  Also they likely will be missing Gabe Davis too.

IMO I think Miami would have a good shot at winning the rematch.

Now the Bills need to focus on beating the Steelers

If they call that series at that point with that much fear in the playoffs, it will bite them on the bippy.

They have got to run their offense there and play for points, not start clock-watching with 6+ minutes left.

McDermott, Brady and Allen should be prepared with a plan to be aggressive with a one score lead in the 4th qrtr or I think they'll regret it.

He was for it on 4th down 3 times and I agreed with all of them.

I know there will be no hiding it from them but in a different world where you could control it do you tell them the outcome? Do you let them know they're guaranteed to make the playoffs? Do you not tell them to make them feel the pressure? Maybe if they know they play more loose?

It’s impossible not to.  Unless McDermott plays to jam up the cellular service and wi-fi at Hard Rock Stadium, they’ll already know

That’s why Im shocked Waddle is listed as questionable.  I can’t see any way he plays on Sunday but it sounds like they are optimistic.

The fact Hill returned so quickly is amazing though his numbers seem to have plateaued so maybe it’s a factor since Tenn.  so maybe it’s still a factor

Allen finds receivers when they get open, at a pace higher than any other QB in the NFL. The problem is that they simply aren’t getting open!

@Maine-iac and I were debating this a few days ago. I have been shouting from the roof tops that Bills receiving options do not gain much separation. The argument I get back is simply “Yes they do! Allen just isn’t throwing to the guys that are open”.

Here is a chart, plotted through Week 17, that shows Allen has the highest % of throws to open receivers, despite his receiving options being 27th in the NFL in separation (in totality of all QB’s plotted).

    IMG-6151.jpg

Also, notice how open Lamar’s receivers are…

I mean, this is hardly a surprise.  Outside of Diggs which receivers really separate?   I’m almost certain Beane addresses this in R1 this season.

The good news is that Dalton Kincaid does a really good job getting open.  Josh just needs to look his way a bit more than he has.  I think next season is going to be a big year

Would you be so kind as to explain what exactly goes into that RYOE metric from PFF?  How exactly is it calculated?

This article does a better job than I could:

Basically a weighted stat like the EPA, so it takes into account the context such as a 6 yard run on 3rd and 20 etc….
