Just talked to a guy i know who is pretty looped in with Chicago sports and has a few connections) and he believes from recent reports/discussions that dungy is going to be hired as Director of Football Ops, Louis Riddick as GM, and Leslie Frazier as HC. He isn’t 100% convinced they get rid of Ryan pace but that he may get put in a different role. I could see this happening and frazier could hire an OC (Jim Caldwell, who he worked with in Indy?) to take care of that side. I like the fit for him and I think the bears fan base would love it.

That would be one helluva trio. If you’re Dungy though, why go back to grind when he has a cake job with NBC?

So think about what Allen does on a regular basis, especially on Sunday against the Falcons and also consider why his recent extension wasn't very smart.....

You have to be the most skeptical and negative Bills fan in this forum….and that’s saying a lot.

So, Josh Allen had a career-worst single-game passer rating.  17.   It's, like, phenomenally bad.

I decided to take a look at the career-worst single-game passer ratings for the super-star quarterbacks.  They're interesting.

The single most interesting thing about the best QBs and their worst days is that, although Allen's day was the second-worst passer rating in the group, Allen is the only guy whose team won the game.  Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, all lost their worst games.  Why is that?   Because Allen's running brought another dimension to the game that the super-stars didn't have.

Here are the worst games for the super-stars:

Peyton:   With the Colts, Peyton threw three interceptions against the Dolphins in his rookie season, lost 41-6 and had a passer rating of 35.   With the Broncos, Peyton lost to the Chiefs 29-13, threw four interceptions and had a rating of 0, the lowest of any super-star.

Brees:  With the Chargers, Brees had a passer rating of 27 against the Bears, threw one interception and lost 20-7.   With the Saints, his low was 37.6, losing to Atlanta 23-13.

Brady's low with the Pats came in the 31-0 loss to the Bills.  He threw 4 ints and earned a rating of 22.5.  With Tampa, he lost to the Saints 38.3 and had a passer rating of 40.4, with 3 INTs.

Rodgers made the Bills the only team to hang an all-time low passer rating on two different superstars, when he racked up a 34.3 rating by throwing three INTs in 21-13 loss.

These are just silly little data points, of course, but I think it's more than pure accident.  Brees, Brady, and Rodgers were, like Allen, playing with good teams, but their teams weren't good enough to bail them out of their worst days.   Allen got the win when the super-stars didn't, not because his team bailed him out, but because ALLEN bailed himself out by being an integral part of the running attack that took over the game in the second half.

Allen isn't throwing like the super-stars, but it isn't absurd to say that is throwing is excellent.  He isn't running like Vick or Lamar Jackson, but he's already established himself as a great running quarterback.   Allen's a much better runner than any of the best throwers, and he's a much better thrower than the best runners - Vick, Newton, and Jackson.

While his ball placement and accuracy could have been better, I didn’t think it was THAT bad of a game.  Not one of his best by any means but it wasn’t a disaster either and despite the stat line, it didn’t look like 2019 Josh Allen.

The INT’s sucked but 2 out of the 3 came off tipped passes which involves some degree of bad luck.  Even the throw to Beasley appeared to be a big miscommunication.

I think Josh still could have passed the ball but the team had so much success running they stayed with it.

So while the stats are terrible, I don’t think it was worst game.

When Beane extended Josh last year it was the expectation that Jackson and Mayfield would also get an extension done before the start of the regular season.  That never happened and now those two franchises find themselves with a bit of a dilemma.

Despite being voted to the Pro Bowl again (and Jackson's team will beat that drum despite the fact he clearly doesn't deserve it), Jackson has had a down year in almost every category and has not been available due to injury for part of the second half of the season.  He hasn't played well enough to get a contract that is more lucrative than Allen's, but that is what they are going to be asking for and it will be tough for the Ravens as an organization to pay him less.

Baker has had a terrible season and is also down in almost every meaningful statistical category despite being on a team loaded with talent and behind one of the best O-Lines in the NFL.  No NFL QB has had more interceptions than Baker has in the last four years. He has evolved into a serviceable game managing QB.  In fairness, he has dealt with a non-throwing shoulder injury that muddies the water this year a bit.

    Here are how the 3 QBs line up statistically this year through Week 17;

    Josh Allen 2021

    Games Played; 16

    Completions;  385

    Passing Yards;  4,168

    Comp %;  64.1

    Passing TD's;  34

    INT's;  15

    Rushing Yards; 700

    Average Per Rush;  6 yards

    Rushing TD's;  6

    Rushing 1st Downs;  51

Lamar Jackson 2021   -  Pro Bowl

Games Played; 13 full games (knocked out early in game 14)

    Completions;  246

    Passing Yards;  2,882

    Comp %;  64.4

    Passing TD's;  16

    INT's;  13

    Rushing Yards;  767

    Average Per Rush;  5.8 yards

    Rushing TD's;  2

    Rushing 1st Downs;  48

    Baker Mayfield 2021

    Games Played;  15

    Completions;  237

    Passing Yards;  2,825

    Comp %;  62.4

    Passing TD's;  15

    INT's;  11

    Rushing Yards;  118

    Average Per Rush;  3.4 yards

    Rushing TD's;  1

    Rushing 1st Downs;  10

Looking at those stats and watching the arc of their careers, while Josh isn't putting up numbers as spectacular as last year, I think he has proven that the 2020 season was not an anomaly.  He is one of the top five QBs in the NFL by any measuring stick.  Lamar and Baker on the other hand have had a year of inconsistency where they have played worse than last year and both teams are unlikely to make the playoffs.

The fact that neither franchise locked down Lamar and Baker before this season means that the organizations harbor some doubt about them and wasn't willing to commit long term no matter what they say publicly.  They kicked the can down the road a year and the question is now what do they do with the 2021 season in the bag?

1.)  Do they make them play out their 5th year options and see how they do before coming to the table?

2.)  Do they play hardball and negotiate a contract less than what Allen got even though the cap is about to explode?

3.)  Do they go after a free agent QB and move on?

4.)  Do they give them a contract on par or better than Allen's because the other options are unpalatable for various reasons?

5.)  Do they draft a QB and start over (slim pickings this year, especially at their likely draft spot)?

I think Lamar clearly has a stronger hand to play than Baker.   Both franchises are in a corner here.  The best thing for the Bills is for both franchises to overpay for their QB.  It's going to be one of the best storylines of the off season this year.  I've got my popcorn ready.

I'm so glad the Bills aren't in that boat.

Signing Allen to the deal this summer was a very smart move by Beane.  Yes you can say his numbers are down a bit from last year, but they are in the ballpark.  Also, the offensive line is markedly worse than last season and Josh has been able to overcome it more time that not.

I think both teams end up giving Lamar and Baker their 5th year and wait to make a decision.  Cleveland and Baltimore had a pretty bad season with injuries/COVID/OBJ so I think they may wait one more year

"Twitter Speculates a Potential Saquon Barkley Trade to Bills | Heavy.com" https://heavy.com/sports/new-york-giants/saquon-barkley-trade-rumors-bills-twitter/amp/

I just stumbled across this article and they make a case for Barkley going to Buffalo.

What do you guys think? He's a super hard worker and is always working on his craft.

I'm not sure if he lost a step or if teams just load the box against a Gmen team with no real passing game.

He checks all the boxes McBeane look for in a player but the price would have to be fairly low imo for them to consider this trade because of the injuries.  Availability is still the most important trait of any player..

What you guys think? It's an interesting scenario

Terrible.  Heavy.com just reports chatter on Twitter.  There’s no reliable source behind this article.  Might as well publish “Bills will fire Sean McDermott after NE according to TSW”

USFL is relaunching this spring and the XFL is supposed to restart in 2023. Both have discussed new cities. How would a spring football team do in Buffalo?

These teams are mostly in warm weather cities. But since we don't care about bad weather in Buffalo, how would a team do here? 20K would be considered very good attendance. Do we love football (and tailgating) enough to do it in the spring too?

Hell no.  Part of the reason why Spring leagues don’t work is that you need somewhat of a reprieve from sports.  The off-season, gives fans a re-charge while anticipating builds for the start of a new year.

How many failed leagues have to created and closed before people understand?

If anything, I think a product like the Arena League had the right idea by offering a product that was a little different from traditional NFL/college football

  7. Cool thing about Reeves was his NFCCG upset against 15-1 Minnesota, when everyone had the Vikings penciled in to play Denver in the Super Bowl.   Minnesota probably had a good chance to win too.

Unfortunately, the other part of Reeves legacy is a coach whose teams got outclassed in the Super Bowl three times.

If Reeves wins one Super Bowl, he’s an easy HOF’er IMO

Strongly doubt Frazier would bring along an inexperienced guy to be a 1st time OC. I would figure being a defense minded fella he would want a guy that has play calling experience...of course never know what the behind the scenes dynamic is.

Youe spot on that the OC position will likely be key to Frazier as OC.  I’m not sure if experience would really make that big of a difference.    Most of the play callers who take the NFL are first year OC’s and not usually retreads.  My thinking is Leslie will take someone he knows and is familiar with, so Dorsey or Chad Hall makes sense

4th down incompletion gives us better position and Hyde catches it instead of knocking it away. I initially thought that was not a smart play .. you can see in the video that Poyer questions him Hyde responds and they both start laughing. Hyde entered the game at 3 INTs and needed 5 to get a $500,000 bonus.

if you watch the video I am pretty certain that was the dialogue … good for you Micah!

This happens a lot with deep pass that are often underthrown.  In terms of field position, in the best interest for a defense to knock it down.  But nearly every DB will take the INT.  In this situation, it didn’t really make a difference.

If there was more time on the clock, I’d want him to know the ball down.

Just trying to figure out if he’s real or like a computer generated Madden player or something. I see him on the website as a Bill. Not sure I’ve ever seen him play.

If Star is “Mr. Undependable” AJ is “The Invisible Man.”  You barely notice him on the field.

The last time we saw AJ in action he was owned by WR on K’Neal Harry on Harris’s 63 yard TD run.  I think he was inactive for a few weeks before getting COVID.

The fact that AJ has been a healthy scratch on and off for 2 seasons is a terrible sign that he’s closer to a JAG than a solid starter

Oh really?  Who are the “good QB candidates” who are going to go there?  They are probably going to have to draft and develop someone, just like most other teams….

Depends… you see a lot of names being tossed out there…Rodgers, Wilson, Watson, Mayfield, Tua…etc.  Who knows if they are really available but it seems some big names “could” be available

  12. 7 hours ago, Success said:

Honestly, if we do have a run in us for the SB, I think Star will be key.  He's simply our best run stuffer when he plays, and that is our biggest liability on D when he's not in there.

Meh, I don’t think he’ll make much difference. There has been many times in the past when the defense has gotten thrashed on the ground with Mr. Dependable playing DT.  At this point, he’s Harry’s backup

  13. 4 hours ago, r henderson said:

He has the same frame as TJ Watt. Both guys are 6’5 250ish. Also Edmunds is much more athletic than Watt. Edmunds forty time is 4.54 compared to Watts 4.69. Long arms with great get up of the edge. Played the position in high school along with TE. He only seems to get up with blockers when is 5 yards off the line of scrimmage. When he’s right on the line of scrimmage he generally handles blockers well. I believe that is his true NFL position.

If you’ve seen Edmunds blitz or take on blockers you know why this is not a good idea.  He would suck

    Cody Ford or Jon Feliciano?

Who would you rather have at guard?  Both a bad at pass protection.  Ford is better at run blocking.  I might actually take Ford over Feliciano

What I want to hear about is the Bills working out IOL or sniping them off other teams PS

Even if we get Feliciano back that still leaves us down a IOL.

He dropped a big pass and was given the McKenzie treatment but think he still has a roster spot
