I'll help you out here...these politicians making these calls are not smart. Not only that, they are driven by an agenda, making them doubly dangerous. The most obvious example is the Global (east-to-west: Japan, China, Europe, United States, California) renewed Love Affair with Nuclear Energy. They (being the Global Leftist-Eco-Elitists) should NEVER have called for the retirement of existing Fission Reactors and essentially ruled out the construction of new ones. Those were catastrophic errors and over-reactions to what was an awful situation...but many, many more people will be negatively affected, including die, from these disastrous policy mistakes over the next few years based on those decisions. The President's rumbling speech today on Student Loans shows that he can't even complete or articulate a simple coherent story or thought. Uh, no they are not. Cap Gains held under one year are treated as Regular Income. Cap Gains held for over a year are treated as investments and do get a lower rate because, again, most people understand that societies want to encourage long-term investment. The rest of my post is not gibberish. Witholding taxes are only applied to the first $92k-$106k (or whatever it is, who cares) of income, it is not applied to income above that. Since most people with healthy Cap Gains would be earning more than $100,000, they do not net Withholding Taxes for SS, etc but it's just math...I would not go around calling things you don't understand gibberish, as a rule.

What are you talking about? Capital Gains income are taxed just like other income, although Long-Term Cap Gains are at a lower rate since, you know, most societies want to encourage long-term investment in their economies... But those taxes you reference are Regressive in nature, since in order to get them passed in the first-place, admittedly when our society was in a different place and not run by Left-Wing nut-jobs, that's how they had to be implemented to get them through, again as most normal societies would think/operate. I realize the current US regime IS full of Left-Wing nut-jobs, so they don't understand these basic concepts. For MOST people, Cap Gains income would come in well above the statutory caps so you're correct, they wouldn't be capped. I get that in the new US world order, the Leftists want access to more and more of people's assets/income so they can redistribute them.

So the new IRS agents' target environment is the 40% of Americans who do....and presumably they've been hitting the Elites hard enough (prob this messaging may alter some behavior at the margin, I can see that). But the preponderance of people who are now going to be audited (i.e. hiring expensive Lawyers and Accountants) are going to have to be people who never dreamed they would be in this position. But it's also how Leftist regimes traditionally assume further control over society (the Healthcare control function being a relatively new one).

Look at this way...during the Obama years, ANY company with ANY ability to "export" their IP and pay a lower tax rate to be competitive with the world, did so....legions of Corporations from Tech to Medical to whatever off-shored their HQs to pay lower taxes. That's just a fact. Trump reversed that. He encouraged investment in America that the Biden and Future regimes will benefit from because that is long-tailed progress, not ridiculous stroke-of-the-pen government check-writing stuff (which the Democrats do not understand, at all).
