I got blasted a while back for suggesting we needed two WRs so Shakir would have legitimate competition for his spot in the offense.

Just assuming your guys will "take a step" is such poor team management. It's why we're in trouble in the WR room in the first place. There was too much misplaced faith in Davis.

I can not disagree with this take.  And McKenzie, though they did bring in Crowder as competition.

But you know, the draft ain't over, and the season won't start the day after the draft, so...

That was my take but he’s still around and we have a bunch of draft capital still.

I'm starting to wonder just WTF Franklin did though.

Did he lease a Lambo?   Show 'tude during interviews?  Flunk out at the whiteboard?

    Welp, Then

You could say in rd 3 getting a quality starter at any position are not good.

Well.....it depends upon what you mean by that

Overall the odds are something like 20-30% (higher at the top of the round, lower at the bottom

But they're not that much higher in the bottom of the 1st/top of the 2nd

    Beane's 3rd round picks:

Harrison Phillips - struggled with us possibly due to injuries, 34 starts in 2 seasons for Vikes

Devin Singletary - 4 year starter for us, 898 yds on 10 starts for Houston last season.  Solid.

Zach Moss - didn't start for us but 11 starts and 22 games for the Ponies, 794 yds last year

Spencer Brown - 41 starts including all 17 last season, Solid

Terrel Bernard - looked like a terror last season after rough rookie outings

Dorian Williams - to be determined, see Bernard, Terrel

I would say Beane's record in the 3rd round is pretty durn good - every one of the guys we have more than a year of data on can play ball.    Not stars of stars, but can play.  3 of the 6 we have adequate data on have been starters for us, 2 more hit their stride for other teams.

We were 10000% short of leaders.  We lost a ton of them.

Yeah, I'm seeing that as a theme.  This guy: 3 year team captain, scholar-athlete award in the ACC.  Safety Bishop, they said he's a leader, you hear him getting the DBs into position.

Sean McDermott is a stupid man. And he's got Beane clearly wrapped around his finger.

Round these parts, you might make book enough for a Tall Flat White at Starbucks.  Better go for the decaff espresso.

Is he this years Boogie Basham?

    God, I hope not.

I think he's a legit player, although it could be said, undersized for a DT in the NFL.  But he seems to be a player in the Kyle Williams "rolling ball of butcher knives" mold.

We need another guy, agreed.   Either trade up early tomorrow and get a speed guy to be WR4 or see what’s out there after 6/1.

He does have a good OL with Kincaid, Knox, Cook, Coleman, Shakir and Samuel.

Not nothing.. but agreed.. once again, Defense looks like it’s receiving strong investment, while Offense is .. so far .. just replacing guys with equal or less proven guys.

To be fair, you could say that about defense, too, right?  Bishop is replacing Poyer and Hyde with a less proven guy.  Carter is replacing Jordan Phillips with a less proven guy.

We cut or let walk a bunch of vet defenders this off-season.

You are right as you can always sign to an extension or franchise tag, BUT, why then did CAR need to trade up? Simply so Buffalo didn't take the guy they wanted?

True, but the entire gist of that particular story is that they had to pivot once that trade occured. Again, it is what it is and the added value of the pick could have made what you say 100% true. But if that's to be believed, for one reason or another, a pivot happened.

I doubt the Bills trade without knowing who Carolina is going to pick.

My guess would be the Bills were talking to multiple teams about a trade-up, and Carolina was afraid one of them would draft Legette whom apparently Carolina was known to be high on.  It's possible with Dan Morgan there one of the Bills team reached out and said hey, we're talking to Team X about a trade, you want to beat their offer? and Carolina believed Team X was after Legette, so they did.

Bills are a depth Corner and mercenary post 6/1 DE away from having a “no holes” top tier defense.

    Von, Rousseau, AJE

    Ed, Jones, Johnson, Carter

    Milano, Bernard, Morrow, Williams

    Johnson

    Benford, Douglas, Elam

    Bishop, Rapp, Edwards

Forgot Cam Lewis, and he matters because he can back up both nickel and boundary CB

My favorite of the 3 picks. I still want more receivers but Carter can play. That was a position of need and the Bills added some pass rush.

Since you know something about him...looking at his draft profile, he projects as a 3TDT?

Beane said his GPS tracking is more 4.5 than 4.6

I would believe it.  Watch him run the gauntlet -  I don't have "scout's eyes" for estimating speed by sight like @Buffalo716, but it's marked enough that I can see the difference between his speed in the gauntlet when catching footballs is the order of business, -vs- the 40 yd dash where he was trying to run fast.

Someone said he reached 21 mph in the gauntlet

It'll be interesting to see what Beane does now.  We have 4 4th round picks, 2 of them reasonably high.

Would not surprise me to see Beane use a 4th rounder and a later pick to try to move up in the 3rd.

We're coming into the range where I thought we might find a trade partner for 1 of our 5th round picks and the KC 3rd to move us up 3-5 slots if we want

How do you figure McDermott of all coaches, is going to bench Rapp for a rookie?  Not happening, look at Rapps contract combined with the fact he has a year in the system.

Easy.  If the rookie picks up the system and is the better baller, McDermott will play him.

This crap about McDermott not playing rookies is baloney.

    O'Cyrus Torrance started 17 games.

Kincaid played 16 games, 63% of the snaps and Knox, who had the 9th or 10th highest cap hit on the team, saw his snap count drop 20%.

Rapp is getting a salary of $1.77M this year and has a cap hit of $2.8M, 18th on the team right now.  It's not like he's getting paid superstar $$

Exhibit 2 that Beane does not draft BPA in Rd 1 or 2, but rather by need. In case you forget this, you can come back and read it.

So what teams DO draft 100% BPA if I may ask?

Once you have a reasonably good team, seems to me you can't draft entirely BPA, or you wind up with too many OLmen and no DB or vice versa.

I think all the good teams draft need-modified or need-influenced BPA.
