The pro bowl always seems to have a few OL...guards in particular....who make it based on reputation. It just seems to be the same guys voted in by default year after year.

Remember Ruben Brown going like 8 years in a row? And didn't Jeff Saturday get voted in even though he was benched by GB?

If Watford was that good Saints would have kept him, or at least got some value back in a trade.

They paid Andrus Peat and Terron Armstead. Next year they are going have to pay Ryan Ramczyk.

Also drafting Cesar Ruiz and Erik McCoy in B2B drafts helped push someone out the door.

GW was a little hitler, using a bullhorn yelling at his players, they turned on him and Donahue sucked as a GM.  When they didn’t win, they canned the guy.  He was even a tool in NO.  He’ll never be more than a coordinator at best.  Oh, and go to a meeting.  I heard they work.  ?

He did a tremendous job with the Jets D last year. The players seem to love playing for the guy.

  3. First of all I apologize for starting another thread. I have a drinking problem.

I was thinking about Gregg Williams last hour. The guy always seemed like a really good football coach. Why did he fail as a HC in Buffalo?

Does he have that John Tortorella quality where he’s good in small does, but his act eventually wears thin?

Darnold isnt too far behind...he's knocking on the bust door too.

The AFC East has the hardest schedules in the NFL this year, without quarterback performance we aren't going to win, they aren't going to win.

In my opinion the winner of this division comes down to Buffalo or the Jets.

On paper of course we have the better coaching staff and the better roster.....but thats just paper. Nothing is proven and it's all speculation.

Our shortcomings from last year have been addressed as well as the Jets.  I believe both teams had a really solid draft.  The only real questionable move I think the Jets made with signing Gore while already having two backs.  I would assume it's to get as much inside information about our system and personnel as possible.

No team in the AFC East is going to be capable of winning with the schedules we are facing without having offensive performance.

I feel the bills and the Jets have the most two complete rosters with the most continuity, and the team whose offense performs better, AKA which quarterback performs better, is most likely going to determine who wins the Division.

If the Jets have had a ***** draft and didn't go after and address the major holes they had, which historically in the past they haven't, this new GM they have seems pretty good, this wouldn't even be a question for me.

It's just funny to me the hypocrisy I see all the time on this board.  People say the Jets draft picks sucked and they're not proven but ours without even taking the field or somehow studs.

Last year too many or wide receivers with trash and couldn't get open and are the reason Allen couldn't produce but this year the addition of one wide receiver has somehow drastically changed the Outlook have our receiving Corps, who many believe are the best Trio or one of the best trios in the NFL. (i believe our wide receivers weren't the problem at all, and stated it many times)

My point is right now going off of what both teams actually did last year and how both address the needs they needed to this offseason, it's going to come down to which team's offense produces more consistently and better.

At this point in my opinion it's a coin toss.

The Jets really like Darnold. If he has a bad year this year I think they are going to pin the blame on Gase and hire someone to try to fix him.

Klecko over Mark Gastineau?  Both were good, the other possibility is Gastineau over Curtis Martin.

They wouldn't have beat the Redskins or '93 Cowboys, both were complete teams.  But you make a good point about having Marino, who was a better QB than Kelly, just not as tough.  Marino seemed to make better QB decisions and was a better passer.  Not a popular opinion/observation, but a valid one, IMO.

Gastineau at his peak was better than Klecko, but overall I think Klecko had a better career. He was also the heart and soul of those Jets teams.

I think Don Maynard, Winston Hill, and Weeb Ewbank would be included before Gastineau.

I didn’t want to include two guys from the 60s or two guys from the 80s.

This is a laughable homer piece. The Jets could very easily start the season 0-8 and even go 0-10 if they can't beat Pats at home or the Dolphins. They could be a 4 win team at most. Despite the wishful thinking here, the Bills will handily beat them twice.

Obviously Bills fans are scared shitless of this Jets team

Does special teams get its own mountain? If so, then I'm going Tasker and Christie (honorable mention, Frank Reich, holder)--but who would round that "3rd phase of the game" group out for us?  :)

    There is only ONE Mountain

No Special Teams Mountain/No Front Office/Ownership Mountain/No Coaching Mountains!

don’t you bills fans know anything about mt Rushmore’s?

  8. I’m not a fan of making a Mt Rushmore totally comprised of one generation.

Bruce and Kelly are locks but the other two should go to Ralph and either OJ or Jack Kemp IMO.

    My Jets Mt Rushmore:

    Joe Namath

    Joe Klecko

    Curtis Martin

    Darrelle Revis

It encompasses the championship 69 team with a very good early 80’s team, late 90’s team, and late 00’s team.

Yeah, Bell's contract was an asinine decision by your former GM. From what I saw last year, he looked quite unmotivated for someone that just got a huge payday

I didn’t hate it at the time, but Bell has definitely lost his burst.

I will say he still has some of the best hands I have ever seen from a RB. In his prime he could have probably been an elite slot receiver.

Not sure about that far, but from a talent perspective, he is right about there being very little comparison between both teams this year. I think some of our struggles last year were playcalling and being too conservative with a lead. I'm hoping McDermott won't make the same mistake this year, or Daboll whichever one was responsible. Both the Jets and Bills last year had issues offensively. That being said, I think Gase will again show he's the inferior coach.

Heading into the 2018 offseason the Bills/Jets were in a very similar spot from a talent standpoint. Since then the Bills have done a much better job.

#1 Buffalo had more draft capital and used it better than the Jets (NYJ had to trade 3 2nd round picks to move up to get Darnold). Add that to a high 3rd round puck wasted on Jachai Polite in 2019 and that’s a lot of premium draft picks flushed away.

#2 NYJ handed out some awful contracts:

Enunwa, Josh Bellamy, and Trumaine Johnson account for over 30MM against the cap in 2020

CJ Mosely, Lev Bell, and Henry Anderson account for almost 40MM

You look at all these teams (Bills, Eagles, Rams, Cardinals, Browns, Ravens) that were able to surround their young QBs with great talent on their rookie deals. It’s unbelievable how badly the Jets messed this up.

I guess I’m looking at it from mostly a rookie/organizational continuity standpoint, and I’ve a lot of faith in Belichick and his in-game awareness to take advantage of Miami’s probable early-season weak spots, and to minimize the impact of his team’s weaknesses.

every team will have aspects of their game that aren’t up to speed week 1. I just think Miami will have more than the average team, and New England will have fewer - and do a better job masking - theirs than Miami.

I have know idea what that’s worth in points, though.

You are overthinking it. The best way to make money as a bookie is to split the bets 50-50. Obviously Vegas thinks betters will back the Pats. If money starts pouring in on the Dolphins that line will shrink.

Look at that Cowboys line. Obviously Vegas is thinking Dallas fans are going to be wreckless.

I like the Jets draft. I think the GM knows how to find talent.
I am not sold on Gase. If he wins then everyone will like him, but if he starts slow, there will be a mutiny.

Darnold is ok, he is never going to be much more than he is.

Darnold is only 22 and has had to deal with a bad oline, non-existent running game, and mediocre pass catchers. Add that to the fact that he got sick with Mono last year right before season started. I think the fact that he’s kept his head above water is a positive.

It’s certainly reasonable to think the kid can get a lot better.  Will he?  We shall see.

I been argue with Jets fans since last year until they banned for life for no reason at all. Point being Jets are sooooo delusional about Darnold like his the next Brady. I like Darnold but they are really think he is LIGHTYEARS ahead of Allen. Jets fan are the worst. There will be no team that we will play in the regular season that i enjoy the Bills beating more than the Jets

I think there is a lot of cautious optimism not just around Darnold, but also around Joe Douglas. It remains to be seen, but for the first time in a while it looks like someone in the building actually knows what he’s doing.

Unfortunately the previous GM did a lot of damage last offseason not only with Adam Gase hire, but also handing out some awful contracts that limited what they could do this offseason.

  14. The Jets are very Metsy heading into this year. You can talk yourself into thinking they can be good, but it requires a leap of faith.

If these things happen the Jets will be good:

    1) Gase becomes a good coach

    2) Darnold makes a jump and becomes a consistent QB

    3) Perriman puts it all together and plays like he did the last five weeks of 2019

    4) Offensive Line additions work unit is much improved

    5) Denzel Mims gives the offense starter production as a rookie

    6) Lev Bell has a bounce back year

    7) Chris Herndon  has a bounce back year

? Quinnen Williams becomes a monster in the middle of the D

    9) Pierre Desir has a bounce back year

    10) One of the young CBs emerges

    11) CJ Mosely has a bounce back year

    12) Jabari Zuniga gives the Jets some juice off the edge

Could a couple of these things happen? Sure, but the chances of everything coming up aces is not good.

There are business and sales people who fly all over this country every week of the year. Is flying an extra hour or two every other weekend really that challenging for a group of young, fit athletes?

I agree with you under normal circumstances, but there is a pandemic. I think the league should try to minimize travel time/aircraft exposure as much as possible.
