It's not over yet!  But I fear we are more likely to regress next year than actually improve, or even remain at this year's level.

The team is going to change around a good bit, and it needs to, if we are going to get better.

This off-season may dictate whether Beane and/or McDermott are still here in a few years.

You're right, it's not over yet, but my confidence in the staff is at an all time low.

I expect the Bills will still be very good, and they'll win a lot in the regular season, but I don't see them turning the corner in the postseason anymore without a major philosophical shift.

Without an upgraded OL he is either gonna get hurt or will start being less productive. Teams are getting better at defending Allen ball. We need tools to be able run a normal offense. Or change the scheme to get the ball out quick. Problem is that is not Allen’s game.

    Again, I agree.

Lot of folks have been calling for O-Line investment for multiple drafts.  I was so disappointed when we drafted Basham instead of Humphrey, and I really wanted the Bills to grab Trey Smith as well.  Both went to the chiefs and have been productive additions.

I don't trust the team to make the kind of investments you're talking about. I, maybe cynically, really think that we're seeing a Cam Newton 2.0 career arc.  That being said, I expect the Bills offense to still be great to elite next season.

Von made the entire line look better than it actually is because he demanded so much attention.  Bruce Smith did the same thing.

This is it.  Rousseau is good, maybe even with the potential to be great, but he's never going to be a #1 DE.  He needs a guy like Von to take the attention away from him so he can produce. It's really not surprising for a DE at his draft position.

Yes and no. We are starting to look less like the team on the rise and more like the team on the decline. Many key players getting older with no replacements currently on the roster. This offseason will be huge to see what they can upgrade. Its no longer Allen will keep getting better or Gabe Davis, Greg R, Knox, pick a name is on the rise. Name one young player that is on the break out year list? Closest arguments would be guys like Cook and Elam.

The last couple years the Bills should have pushed more chips in. This year especially feels like lost opportunities. I am tired of hearing how this team does not do it that way when it comes to not signing guys. Not true. Look at the defense. They just have not been the right moves and on O have gone dumpster diving.

Everyone knew they needed help on O at the deadline. They ignore CMC, Hockenson, Toney, any OL and bring in Hines, Brown and Beasley. Not enough. SF, MIN and KC all got better while Bills did nothing.

In the offseason there were some no brainers that everyone talked about. Remember Evan Engram? That was a no brainer move and we bring in OJ Howard. We continue to spend $10M+ on special teams guys. This O was doomed by the OL and lack of weapons.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but I don't see the massive backslide that a lot are predicting simply because the offense wasn't good this season talent-wise and Allen dragged it to the #2 spot in stats by sheer force of will.  He's just that good.

Don’t forget a 3rd rounder on Bernard, who will likely never play any significant snaps in Buffalo

There needs to be a fundamental shift in draft strategy moving forward, because it's obvious that drafting on defense and spending next to nothing on offense isn't working.

Knox has done a ton more for the team than Bernard, Basham, and probably Elam (at this point) combined.

Offense is how you win in the modern football league. Period.

Mark my words, chance of no playoffs next year if Jets get a qb. They will rebound in 2024 but next year will be a tough one.

teams ahead of Bills next year

    Cinci

    Chiefs

    Chargers

    Jacksonville

    Jets, if they get Lamar

    Baltimore if they keep Lamar

    miami if Tua is healthy

This is a little too much doom and gloom, frankly. The Bills have beaten Baltimore, the Chargers HC is just as bad as ours, probably worse, and Jacksonville looks fine but not some top tier team.

The Jets are a complete hypothetical if they can find the hardest position to find in modern football, and Miami completely relies on timing throws in order to be effective.

  7. They both deserve a lot of flak.  McD goes on and on in each presser about how the Bills need to learn and grow from mistakes, but there's zero accountability as far as we can tell.

There's no self-reflection on this team.  McD can't even evaluate his own talent effectively. Can anyone tell me with a straight face that Dane Jackson needed to be in for the majority of that game over Elam?

  8. I'm still gutted the next day by this.  I'm smart enough to realize this is irrational, but I'm too emotionally invested in this team considering I have no ability to effect the outcome.

I hate, hate, hate that the only reasoning we've gotten is "we didn't have the energy, we came out flat".  The fact that the team was unmotivated is a direct condemnation on the coaching staff. The whole city, hell WNY is behind the Bills, and the players aren't invested in the outcome.  That's a failure of leadership.

I'm worried this is all we're gonna be able to do. We will have some fun years like the Chargers but never do anything of note, I guess it's better than the drought but it still feels just gross.

  9. The only word I can use to describe the Bills performance today is "incompetent."

That was one of the most putrid defensive performances I've ever seen from a McD team, at one of the worst moments imaginable.  Dorsey trotted out the same boring vanilla BS that has barely been working since the Green Bay game. Diggs has a right to be angry, the talent on this team is being held back by poor coordinators who can't rise up to the challenge.

The D-Line was horrifically bad as well, what a waste of picks.

I've never been on the "fire the coaching staff" train but man it feels like a real shake up is needed.  Absolutely pathetic attempt at a game by the Bills.

    But this is by design.

McD slow rolls rookies because they tend to hit the "rookie wall" with the longer, more strenuous season. Now, instead of being worn out, our rooks are ready to go and have fresh legs.

I get it.  I think it's a valid argument to be made, but I'd also like to see the rookies get reps early on so we see less of stuff like the big Shakir drop last week. Maybe it happens regardless, who knows.

When healthy Jordan Phillips is a real difference maker. Players with his size and agility are not very common. You can tell he's been one-armed by the lack of impact plays he's been making. I hope his shoulder is healed up a bit because we could really use his interior pass rush.

I love how Shakir, James Cook, and Elam are all playing their best football right now and I don't think it's a coincidence.

IMO the emergence of our rookie class is a testament to how deliberately and carefully they've been brought along this year. Clearly none of them have hit the rookie wall and all three are contributing substantially now.

Yes we're missing Von Miller and Micah Hyde but the play of our top rookies gives me optimism that this team is in some ways, better than last year's edition.

I don't want to sound negative, because I'm really trying not to be but: Shakir, Cook, and Elam are probably playing their best football now because they've basically had no extensive game reps until the last few weeks.

I think it would have been beneficial to the Bills to get these guys a bigger workload early on, especially when we were blowing teams out.

Welcome Bengals fans! Here's a math exercise:

I like the Bengals and Burrow.

However, I LOVE the Bills and Allen.

    Love > Like

    Therefore, GO BILLS!

Hate to be the fun police here, but that's really more of a proof of logic and not a math exercise.

IMO, I think it’s a pipe dream expecting Hyde back this year outside of practicing with no contact. Additionally, even if it were to happen, thinking Hyde is going to jump back into the starting lineup and not miss a beat seems unrealistic.

People jumped on me for saying the same thing when Hyde was elevated.  I don't see a path that he plays in the playoffs realistically.  MAYBE the superbowl if we make that far.
